How the move into the wish fulfilled is actually made. The answer is self-abandonment: a man abandons himself mentally to his wish fulfilled, in his love for that state, and so lives in the new state and no more in the old. We cannot commit ourselves to what we do not love, so the secret of self-commission is faith plus love - and faith here means believing what is incredible. We commit ourselves to the feeling of the wish fulfilled in the faith that the act of self-commission will become a reality, and it does, because imagining creates reality. The same structure runs the other way in the divine act: God loved man and committed himself to man in the faith that the commission would transform the created into the creator, so man in his love for God must surrender himself as completely.
