Ecclesiastes 3:11 turned on a lexicon. Scholars render the word 'eternity', but Strong's Concordance - which Neville names, along with the fact that he is no Hebraist and keeps concordances to look words up - defines it strictly as a youth: a lad, a boy, a stripling. So God did not put an abstraction into the mind of man; he put a child there. Neville joins it to Proverbs 8:22, where the first of God's acts says 'I stood beside him as a little child, and I was daily his delight' - noting that translators call this Wisdom although the text says a little child - and to 1 Samuel 17, where Saul asks Abner 'whose son is this?' of the stripling, the same Hebrew word. The conclusion he draws is the whole of his late teaching: God's first creative act, his own son, was buried in the mind of man, and when it is brought forth the man from whom it comes is entitled to look at it and call it his son - which makes him the Father, and therefore God.
