Galatians 1:11-16 as the charter for first-hand testimony. The gospel Paul preaches is not man's gospel: he did not receive it from a man, he was not taught it, it came by revelation - and when it pleased God to reveal his Son in him he conferred not with flesh and blood. Neville reads the refusal as practical rather than proud: to whom would he turn and ask them to throw light upon an experience that is not understood by mortal mind? Paul, well grounded in his Bible, could go back afterwards and find the whole thing foretold there, but on that level he could not have understood it; it had to be unveiled first, and only then did the interpretation of the ancient scripture follow. The same is promised to the hearer - God will reveal his Son in you in an explosion, and you will see that Son as your own son - so the verse serves twice over: it is why Neville will not argue his experience, and why he expects no one to accept it on his authority. Parented to the no-intermediary motif, which states the principle; this one is the moment the principle is enforced.
