And the second half of the figure does the work the first half sets up - the sheep are the unseen realities, they hear the shepherd's voice and come out, and they will not obey the voice of a stranger. So calling with the name is calling the sheep out by name: the lady with the unpainted house was calling out paint, calling out the repair job, calling out payment in full, and the sheep happened to be the money. The negative case is given just as concretely: if you make your shepherd the president, the mayor, the governor, your father or mother, or the uncle about to die whom you are feeding handsomely because you expect to be in his will, you are looking in vain. There is no other shepherd and no other door into eternity.
