Neville's report of what the crucifixion actually felt like, given against the churches' picture of it. His hands became vortices, his head a vortex, his feet vortices and his side a vortex, and he was driven into the body on the bed through sheer emotion, held there by six vortices - hands, feet, head and side. He insists on the character of it every time: it is not a painful act, it is the most delightful sensation in the world, and what he felt was the delight and sheer joy of being driven upon this cross, this body. Whirling vortices, no pain, ecstatic joy. He dates it to the beginning of time and calls what he experienced a memory image returning as he was about to awake, so the event is not happening then but being remembered. The practical consequence he draws is that the churches have the week wrong - do not weep when you see it, rejoice, because it was God's sacrifice of himself in order to individualise himself in unnumbered garments. And he promises the same sensation to the hearer: you too will feel the wonderful thrill of being nailed upon this body, and from that moment on everything changes - you see people as you saw them and yet they differ, because you know what they are destined to be.
