The standing objection Neville receives and the answer he always gives. Mark 13 is quoted at him as proof that he is setting himself up as Christ: if any man should say to you, look, here is Christ, or look here, believe him not. He concedes it instantly and turns it - quite right; if anyone should ever say look, there he is, don't believe him, because unless you find him in yourself as yourself you will never find him. Then he answers with 1 John 3:1-2: it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, and see him just as he is. So the test is a mirror. Do you look like him? If you do not look like the one you now think he is, you have not found him - keep on looking, because you are not going to find him except as yourself. He had it so often on the radio that he could wait for it: broadcasting to twenty-six states and most of Canada, the wires would come through pinpointing Mark 13:21 and the telephone would ring with a caller telling him to go and read that passage. In this telling it came during a marathon that ran from midnight until six - seven hours on the night the clocks went back - on WOR in New York, with a panel of four challenging his right to say what he did, reaching, he estimates, close to twenty million people.
