Neville's answer to which came first, the chicken or the egg, and his use of it to dispose of two doctrines at once. He calls the question foolish and any attempt to answer it a foolish answer: they came from each other. I came from God and God came from me - I am just like the egg, and from himself I fell, because he caused me to fall as the hen causes the egg to fall. That, he says, is the full doctrine of the fall; there is no other. Then from that state I simply rose, like a chicken out of the egg - and that is the end of the doctrine of evolution, because I am one with the very being in whom I was before I fell from him. The fall is therefore chosen rather than suffered, and Ephesians 1:4 supplies the choosing: he chose me in himself before the foundation of the world. When everything was prepared - and the world, all these galaxies, is just like a nest - he dropped me into it. The eggshell is made to do the rest of the work: it is sealed just as your skull is sealed, and within it is everything that its seeming creator was, no more and no less; after incubation the thing inside makes an effort of its own and breaks out, capable of the same creative power, able in turn to beget itself and drop its own being into the galaxies and let gods appear.
