Against the whole habit of reading the gospel figuratively, Neville insists that every precept is stated as some literal fact to be understood in its literal manner, and he says he speaks from experience: he had no idea the thing was so literally true. The claim is always made with a qualification that keeps it from being naive, and the qualification differs by lecture. At 1052 the precepts will be experienced literally but in a region so remote from what man knows that he cannot even think of it here. At 1758 every precept in scripture will be experienced in what the world would call dream. At 1803 the example chosen is the most repellent one available - it will be fulfilled literally even to the drinking of the blood, which is not blood as one would cut a vein but golden liquid living light, the only living reality in the world. At 1300 and 1973 the same rule is turned into an instruction for the listener: believe every precept of his literally, take the word of God literally as you are invited to do, and it will be fulfilled. Distinguish this from M758, the threefold cord: that motif says all the stories are literally true on the spiritual level and distinguishes levels of reading; this one is about precepts - commands and promises - and says they are predictions of experience, not figures of speech.
