Neville refuses to let the horrors of the world count as evidence against man’s creative power; he makes them the evidence for it. If you miscreate unnumbered times you can still create, because a miscreation is still a creation: war, revolution, all the horrible things of the world are miscreation, and they are creation all the same - and he who started it will in the end bring us into his own likeness. At 1973 the same word carries the same argument through a worked example: the mule is not created by God but miscreated by man, who takes a donkey and blends it with a horse, and there are mules in the bird world, the animal world and among trees - things brought together that are not natural in God’s eye. The 1973 telling adds a limit that is worth keeping: God has put a bound on man’s miscreation, because the mule cannot reproduce itself and must be bred afresh each year by mismatching. NOTE ON SCOPE: the word miscreate also occurs at 1057 and 1820 in two other senses - a miscreated past that revision can reach back and change (1057), and a monstrous product God would step on and start over (1820). Those are not this motif; attach on the argument that misuse proves the power, not on the word.
