A rule taken from Genesis 41:32 and a vision of his own that satisfied it. Joseph tells Pharaoh that the doubling of the dream means the thing is fixed by God and God will shortly bring it to pass - Pharaoh dreamt the seven fat and seven emaciated cows and then the same thing again in seven fat and seven blighted ears, one dream told twice - so a doubled dream cannot be altered. Neville then reports his own. A year before, at Christmas, he found himself in a mansion with three generations present, one of them invisible and dominating the others: the grandfather. They told the story of how grandfather would stand on a vacant lot and say I remember when this was a vacant lot, and then paint a word picture of his desire for it so vividly that the listeners saw the building rise before their mind’s eye. He woke a little after three, went to the living room and wrote it out in detail on a long yellow page, went back to bed - and re-dreamed the dream with one alteration: instead of hearing them tell the story of grandfather, he WAS grandfather, telling it himself. That is the doubling, and he takes it as God’s instruction: go tell it to the world. The vision is told the same way at 1161, 1790 and 1852. At 1161 he draws the practical extension - the dream need not be one you do not control: enact a scene vividly while awake, break it, and five minutes later enact the same scene again, and it is doubled. At 1790 he pairs the rule with another of the same kind: if an event in your life is foreshadowed by a word of scripture, it is predestined. At 1852 the commission that follows is Jeremiah’s - if I say I will not mention it, there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
