The test Neville applies to anyone who says they believe that imagining creates reality, and it is a hard one because it is behavioural rather than doctrinal. If I worry, I am imagining - worry is an imaginal act, and all it does is conjure what I fear. So the habit of worry discloses a lack of faith in the claim: a man who really believed that whatever he imagines comes to pass could not possibly be concerned about anything. He puts Job's line behind it - my fears have come upon me - so that worry is not merely useless but productive in the wrong direction. The force of the argument comes from where he places it, immediately after the jumping-off-a-building demonstration: a man does not need to steel himself against stepping off a roof, because his belief does the work; and the practitioner who has to talk himself out of worrying does not yet have that kind of belief. Told at 1284 and 1286 as well.
