This might sound like a very liberating truth, but there is more nuance and depth to it.n1572 ¶2

What happens when the 3D world of bills, broken relationship, bad diagnoses get so loud that you feel hypnotized into victimhood? What do you do when the appearances on the screen are dense, deterministic, and suffocating? In the modern metaphysical community, this debate (that has been going on for millenia) between absolute determinism and free will is a pretty paralyzing trap. The same question always comes up: If every possible timeline already exists, are we just biological meat-puppets walking through a pre-written script? As we explored previously, if you follow the logic of hardcore determinists, the answer is a suffocating “yes”.n1572 ¶3

But this time let’s bridge the mysticism of New Thought with the dark, heavy machinery of the occult. To master the machine, you have to understand the machine. Interestingly enough, students of Neville could possibly find some validation in the gritty world of serious, contemporary magic. On a highly insightful episode of the Rune Soup podcast, host Gordon White (a fervent proponent of Neville’s work) interviewed two “encyclopedic minds” of modern occult history, , a notorious magician and occultist who violently collided with the “dream of life” and his book, . Crowley, Gordon White mentioned, could be seen as a controversial “midwife” who dragged ancient initiatory practices into the 20th century. was controversial because it claimed to be a divinely channeled revelation that ends the Christian era to replace all old moral codes with the single, amoral law “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. When you strip away the tabloid aesthetic, Peter Grey noted that Crowley’s significance lies in his attempts to “break new ground” and push magic to the new limits. In any case, a true gem for Neville students comes from Alan Chapman, who articulated an esoteric secret that stretches back 2,000 years to ancient Egypt and the Hellenic world. Chapman explains this fundamental ontological fact about our 3D reality: “…in the ancient world it was an esoteric secret, you know, that we’re actually already in the underworld. This is, we’re already in it, and this is what the magic is for, right? This is a game-changing concept. The 3D world with all its physical laws, historical inertia, and predetermined outcomes is the Underworld. It is the realm of finished, dead forms. When Neville spoke of the “world of shadows”, he was pointing at this exact truth. If you do not know you are in the Underworld, you believe the appearances on the screen are absolute reality and become a subject to the determinism of the past. And the world will respond to you and treat you with all the respect you do. But if you get entangled in it, trying to work against shadows—for they’re all shadows if they respond to my imaginal act then they’re shadows—how can they be causative in my world? If I give them the power of causation, then I’m transferring what rightly belongs to me to them, and they’re only shadows. The whole vast world bears witness of the activity taking place within us, and so the whole world only mirrors what I am doing within myself. That’s all that it’s doing. If I know that, I am set free!n1572 ¶4

Hidden Curriculum of Abdullah: Grimoires and Prosperity and traditional occultism may be surprised to know that recent historical records CWB unearthed show that between 1914 and 1923 in Atlantic City, (Neville’s mentor Abdullah) lived a fascinating double public life. He was a baritone and bel canto teacher, running the Bel Canto Conservatory and a working occultist. He advertised the Church of the Religion of Love and Spiritualistic Phenomena, Inc. and the Church of Abdallah, inviting “Christ Scientists, psychics and followers of New Thought. His ads promised lessons in “the materialization of things invisible”, “psychic control”, and crucially, “the mystery books of Moses”. In the spiritualist circles of the 1910s and 20s, that phrase almost exclusively referred to the which were popular occult grimoires filled with Kabbalah-tinged seals, psalms, and magical correspondences used heavily in temples. Abdullah wasn’t just preaching New Thought positive thinking. When he began his spirtualist phase, he was touching upon the grimoire traditions and practical metaphysics of that era. He was teaching the practical method for navigating the deterministic “dreamscape” of the Underworld. Note: Grimoires were not fantasy texts but operational manuals for contacting and directing intelligence beyond the senses. Neville speaking of entering imagination and receiving instruction is close to the same mechanism stripped of the ritual and presented in biblical/psychological language. The example used over and over in Neville teachings was that “episode” when Neville wanted to go to Barbados but had no money and Abdullah slammed the door in his face for daring to acknowledge the 3D physical evidence. Abdullah apparently violently enforced the ultimate “magical rule”: Besides the awesome lesson, he was also showing Neville the mechanism of “choice” found at the crossroads. One of the assumed purposes of this 3D interface is to catalyze you to step into I AM or “ ” or even just a nice simple “Observer” state and arrive at the crossroads. I have an experience of this mechanism directly and felt as though time itself paused awaiting my decision: I was in a gathering at a hard core esoteric spiritual school in Europe 40-something years ago and after quite a lot of practice had a spontaneous experience of being “dreamed” (I held myself back from running into the streets and telling everyone).n1572 ¶5

But there was this very clear “So what are you going to do, kid? Are you going to tell everyone? Are you going to talk to Daskalos on the right chair? Are you going to leave the party? Are you going to keep it to yourself?n1572 ¶6

That was my experience of it. My experience of the Observer was that it was “observing” and not getting involved. Of course, I knew I was in a “dreamscape” (this physical reality), but I didn’t feel in any way there wasn’t a give and take, choice, and observation. I needed only to tune-in better, but in no way felt I wasn’t in a “this is a crossroads, you choose” moment. It was almost as if time stopped until I decided. This time-stopping lived experience was a step out of the deterministic, mechanical flow. Okay in a fluid dreamscape, yes, but time has stopped until a decision was made or which pre-written probability I was going to collapse into existence.n1572 ¶7

The Grease Trap vs. The Demon in the Voice All these mystics warn of the greatest risk is staying hypnotized by the appearances on the screen, or worse, misusing the remote. Gordon White expanded on a concept perfectly demonstrated by the followers of Crowley, the danger of the “grease trap for idiots”. The “grease trap” is what happens when individuals realize they hold the remote, but they use it endlessly to surf for cheap money, sex, and power. They feed their own localized human narcissism without ever truly waking up from the dreamscape, ultimately crashing in their attempt to micromanage the infinite complexities of the machine.n1572 ¶8

To cross the Abyss and safely navigate the Underworld, you don’t have to destroy your ego; you have to empower it. As Peter Grey advises in the interview, the goal isn’t to turn esoteric texts into a new form of orthodoxy or blindly follow a guru. The goal is to study the work so that “you can start to understand where you can find the “demon in the voice” in your own work and open that up and have those kind of spirit experiences. You must find that active, living spirit within your own consciousness.n1572 ¶9

Alan Chapman perfectly articulates this mechanical choice that Abdullah was enforcing, reframing all mystical texts and teachings as presenting this precise ontological decision: “…we can either believe appearances, right, or listen to something else beyond appearances. That’s basically it. What’s the something else? Sometimes it speaks to us and that’s what the divine is.n1572 ¶10

It tells us, ‘Don’t worry about the images, you think you’re going to die, you’re not, don’t worry about it. But if you don’t listen to me… if you don’t follow me, then you’re going to go the way of the appearances… it’s annihilation. That’s just how it’s going to be.n1572 ¶11

This is the choice. This is the liberating choice you have in every moment. You can look at the deterministic nightmare of your current situation and face the mental “annihilation” of staying stuck in that episode. Or, you can listen to the Divine Voice and your own Human Imagination. You can choose to listen to the voice that Abdullah, Neville, Gordon White, Peter Grey, and Alan Chapman are all pointing to that says: “Don’t worry about the images. You are in Barbados. The roads are paved and Netflix library is stocked. But it is entirely up to you to step out of the unawakened machine, wait for time to stop, and say “yes” to the terrifyingly beautiful thread you came here to experience. This is all pointing to the ultimate act of Free Will is not demanding the universe serve your petty whims… it’s having the courage to align with your highest potential.n1572 ¶12
