Now she’s had a series since then. I go back now to the 24th day of May, two months later, and this voice has been speaking to her daily from within, for the ears are open now. As we’re told in the 40th Psalm, “Thou hast bored an ear for me” that I may hear that which comes from within. For as Browning said, “Truth is within ourselves; it takes no rise from outward things, what’er you may believe. There is an inmost centre in us all, where truth abides in fullness.” Then he paints this strange, wonderful word picture, how he envelopes himself in flesh and causes nothing but error; that, as flesh is put upon it, he looks out upon a world and all things are distorted. But then he tells us, “And to know rather consists in opening out a way whence the imprisoned splendor may escape, than in effecting entry for a light supposed to be without” . So the whole thing is coming from within, but you don’t really hear it and understand it until these are bored. So in her case, it is bored.363 ¶9
