A friend of mine gave me a letter last Tuesday night. I have it with my other precious mail at home. When I went home before I retired I read it, and I was thrilled beyond measure. He said, “I quit the job yesterday”—that was the day before he wrote this letter—“so having no way to go for a job today…I had no desire for a job. I quit first, I wasn’t fired; I just left the job. But I always rise early from habit, so at 5:30 I awoke, but I didn’t get out of bed. There was no reason for getting out of bed, so I remained in bed in that sort of drowsy, dreamy state, not awake, not asleep, and then I heard a voice. It wasn’t a deep sonorous voice but a lovely voice speaking to me, and the voice said to me, ‘God knows the depth of your soul, and you will receive the promise within, that is, from 100 days to a year.’ Then I wrote it down in a half dream state, and when I did wake I remembered writing something down. I picked it up and I read it: ‘God knows what is in the depth of your soul and from 100 days to a year you will receive the promise.’”191 ¶40
