Now let me be very, very personal. I told you the story of my daughter who when everyone tried to help her failed. They loved her dearly and tried to get her into certain jobs. All the doors were open, but there was no job, and on her own she answered a little ad, just a little box number to the L.A. Times. They responded and she got the job with Prudential Life, and they started her at a hundred and ten a week, her first little job, she’s never worked before. But on one of these many doors that opened prior to this, one lady said to her in a very insolent way, “What makes you think you can come in here and get a job in the script department before you have any experience?” When she came home that night, she was really burned up because of the attitude of this one who interviewed her. “What makes you think you can come in here and do these things?” And she said to us, “What must someone do to get a job? Here I’ve graduated from college, I’ve majored in English, I want to write, and this is what she told me, ‘Go and get something published before you can dare come in here.’”243 ¶7
