I know this from experience, for it came to me out of the horse’s mouth in New York City. St. Luke’s is a marvelous hospital in New York City and next to it is St. John the Divine, the unfinished cathedral…the biggest thing and really a beautiful piece of work, and then there is St. Thomas, the cathedral on 5th Avenue, all Episcopal. The hospital, St. Luke’s, is run by the Episcopal Church. And this lady was going to give St. Thomas two million dollars if the bishop was not still alive, Bishop Manning. Well, the old boy out lived her, so she gave it to St. Luke’s. So the hospital fell heir to $2,000,000.413 ¶31
