And today, well, as my mother said to me concerning my little boy’s baptism…so I went down to please my mother and arranged with some Episcopal minister to baptize him. Well, the only thing that happens to a little child in baptism, or to an adult when they’re old, could be catching a cold. Not a thing happens spiritually may I tell you. My first wife who got religion at the advanced years and joined some…I don’t know…Baptist? No, she joined the…oh, what was this…well, it will come to me eventually. But she joined it and took my little boy over to an indoor pool at the St. George Hotel in Brooklyn. She was going to be completely immersed. She couldn’t swim anymore than my little boy could swim, and they almost got drowned. She was going to be just completely immersed and so she’s going to get religion. All she got was just on the verge of death. And my little boy who couldn’t swim, she did the same thing to him, not knowing that when he was two and a half, because of my mother’s fear that he would go to hell if he, an innocent little boy, wasn’t baptized, I allowed this performance.622 ¶11
