So, in this story of Jesus Christ…as I read in a current magazine this week this priest of fourteen years wants to quit the Catholic Church, to change all the rituals…beginning with the name Father. He said, “I, a boy of twenty, when that Mass was said and I was made a priest, and here are my parents, my family, all kneeling before me, and I came up, and I made the sign of the cross over my mother, and she burst into tears, and all my family burst into tears. And, I, at twenty, was called Father. Here in my parish, these prominent men in business, in science, all the professions, and I call them by their first name at the age of twenty…and all the priests do, and they call me Father.” He said, “What nonsense! What sheer hypocrisy! And all things that go under this ritual are so stupid.” “Including celibacy,” he said, and he is completely against it. You’ll find it in the current issue or maybe the last issue of The Saturday Evening Post. He’s Father Schaffer, who has been and still is, although at the moment he’s suspended, he’s been a priest for fourteen years. He said, “I know it from the inside.” This whole thing is so completely phony on the outside.901 ¶24
