Neville tried assuming he was somewhere his reason and senses denied, stayed in the state until it seemed natural, then opened his eyes and was shocked to find himself back in his chair — and was afterwards carried across a series of events to the fulfilment of that state. Neville places the exercise on the snowbound night he introduced his first book, Your Faith Is Your Fortune, in February 1941 -- a low-turnout crowd unprepared to buy it -- after which he went home through a foot or more of snow and, in bed, assumed himself in his mother's home in Barbados.
