Neville recalls a former life of enormous wealth — many fully staffed homes, secretaries, gardeners, yes-men, sheer decadence — which he deliberately walked out of and never returned to, not dying as men die; and about ten years ago, in a journey in spirit, he walked back into it and found it occupied by usurpers while his old secretaries and servants recognised and welcomed him.
