When he first came to this city in 1945 the head of the organization that had invited him objected that he did not treat the Bible as secular history and forbade him to say from that platform what he had been saying in San Francisco; after speaking to about five hundred of the man's graduates, Neville refused the forty-seat room offered for his own Bible class, had the woman who met him at the airport rent a hall for about $90, drew 208 people at $40 for five talks, gave the organization head the 40% he had promised, and from then on came on his own. Source document 1573 corroborates the account that Neville left the sponsoring institution after the 1945 conflict and began working independently.
