Neville recounts being placed on Barbados in 1905 among many brothers with no social, intellectual or financial background; his one corporal punishment was for the Bible - he answered his schoolmaster's question with "Take up thy bed and walk" but could not produce his Bible, and was beaten from his buttocks down to his feet; restless for the Word of God, he crossed the ocean and joined the theater.
A second, heavily garbled telling (passage 554333, lecture nid 2163) recalls the ocean crossing in more detail: he 'kept my day to Milwaukee' and 'arrived in New York City the first week of May' before going on to Milwaukee. This adds a month to the departure but no year; the source lecture's own date is undetermined beyond 'after mid-1969'.
