Neville recounts coming upon an animated scene — a restaurant with diners, a waitress, falling leaves and flying birds outside the window — arresting an activity within himself so that the whole scene froze in place, then releasing it so everything completed its intention; the birds did not fall, which made him question man's concept of gravitation.
