Coming out of the Ebell Theatre after giving his lecture, Neville looked up and saw the Hollywood hills aflame; some forty houses burned that night, one of them Aldous Huxley's, destroying his unpublished D. H. Lawrence manuscripts, library and art, so that nothing was saved but the suit on his back.
