Reading this morning's paper he found the deaths of three men he knew, one well: the playwright Eugene (Gene) Conrad, whom he met in New York City in 1934 and who introduced him to his dancing partner Amarina; Conrad, who feared death more than anyone Neville knew, went to sleep at sixty-nine and did not wake.
