Neville recounts his own vision in which, his skull having become translucent, a dove floated about twenty feet above him; he raised his left hand and extended his index finger, the dove descended onto it and smothered his face and neck with affection, while a woman at his side explained that doves avoid humanity because of man's offensive odor but this one had penetrated the ring of offense out of love for him.
