In 1946, aboard a bauxite freighter carrying twelve passengers from Port of Spain, Trinidad to Mobile, Alabama with his wife and little girl, Neville was pulled from his skull in a serpentine spiral as a being of fire and air, glided luminous past a vast sea of maimed and imperfect humanity making everyone perfect as he passed, while a heavenly chorus sang 'Neville is risen' and finally 'It is finished' — after which he came back down into his body like a straitjacket.
