South Bend Times item (reprinted as 'A Negro Jew') reporting that a colored man claiming to be a Jew, named Samuel Wolskowicy, sought aid from the Jewish community of Goshen, Indiana after being refused accommodation at every hotel. Rabbi Weinstein questioned him closely and found him to be a genuine Jew, not an impostor. He is described as highly educated, speaking Turkish, Arabic and Hebrew, said to come from 'Macomby, Egypt' 167 miles from Cairo (site of a colony of 7,000 colored Jews with free schools and synagogues), and to have served as a soldier in the Greek army in the war between Greece and Turkey.
