A newspaper report (South Bend Times, reprinted in the Boonville Standard) says Goshen was 'excited over a colored Hebrew': a colored man calling himself Samuel Wolskowicy sought aid from Goshen's Jewish community, was examined by Rabbi Weinstein and found to be a genuine Jew rather than an imposter. He is described as highly educated, speaking Turkish, Arabic and Hebrew, from 'Macomby, Egypt' (a colony of ~7,000 colored Jews near Cairo), and as a former soldier in the Greek army during the Greco-Turkish war. Collected by CWB among reports of black Egyptian/Ethiopian/Falasha Jewish travellers they connect to Neville's account of Abdullah as an Ethiopian Jew.
