'In the beginning was the Word' read through Numbers 12:6 - 'If there be a prophet among you, I, the Lord, will make myself known to him in a dream' - so that the Word is the dream of man and the voice of God is heard by man in dreams. From Genesis to Revelation God is always speaking through a dream: to Mary, to Solomon, to Jacob, to Pilate's wife. It need not be a night dream; one does not have to fall asleep to dream, and the day dream is the Word. Visions are a different thing and come by grace, only to bear witness to progress and mark the mileposts on the way. Since the Word cannot return void, the question is only what a man is dreaming - the same twelve words may be arranged to express devotion or something frightful. So dream nobly: you have the Word.
