At twenty-one, contemplating samadhi and reading The Light of Asia, Neville fell into an involuntary trance; when he woke the sun was up and he had not moved for ten hours, and during that interval he became infinite liquid light - not divided, nothing but light, the One Reality. He identifies it as absorption in the bliss he had contemplated as a sea of golden liquid light. The same light can be approached deliberately: sit quietly and turn the eyes inward as if looking into your own skull, and in a moment a golden light begins to glow, coming before the eyes and going out in circle after circle like smoke rings, increasing in rate until they form a funnel with the big end at the face.
