Isaiah 28:16 - behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: he who believes will not be in haste - taken with the stone the builders rejected which became the head of the corner, and with Paul's 'no other foundation can any man lay, which is Christ Jesus', on which you may build gold, silver, hay or stubble, and the day will reveal it. The stone is your imagination. Stone is 'even' in Hebrew and means to create, to build, to beget children - so all the events of a man's life are his children. Zion means a high pinnacle or a barren place: that is man before the stone is sunk in him, the waste and the desert. The test of belief is patience: a man who does not live in his imagination grows impatient of the outcome and finally violent in his efforts to get things, while one who believes the stone is not in haste, does not pull wires, and does not tell his friend what to do physically. Neville has seen an imaginal act take two years to come forth, and seen one come in an hour. And the warning is about what you build with: you are building with hay when you say of someone 'I know - he was no good', and when it comes to pass you say 'I always thought he was like that'.
