The second act of the series, and the moment the name changes hands. Conferred upon the risen Christ in the experience of a man is the divine name Adonay, which means my Lord, my Father. Neville is careful about what confers it: not a ceremony and not the man's own claim, but the Son, who looks at him and calls him my Father, my Lord. He describes the experience as being exactly as unexpected, perplexing and bewildering as the first - you have no idea of the relationship, and suddenly it happens, and there it is. The name is therefore evidence rather than a title: a man knows he is the Father because he is addressed as one, by the only witness whose testimony would settle it. It stands as the second of three - birth from above, the discovery of the Son, the ascension - and it is the middle term that ties the other two together, since the fatherhood proved here is what the ascension crowns. A child of the motif that carries the word Adonai and the David riddle; the parent holds Matthew 22 and the question whose son the Christ is, and this one holds the conferral.
