First of all, in scripture, today as you read the word “fast,” they just use the word “prayer.” When we’re told this can only be cast out through fasting and prayer, fasting isn’t deleted. Although I would not delete it, whoever inserted it originally I don’t know, but they claim it’s not found in the ancient manuscripts. But fasting is simply turning my attention away from the states on which I formerly feasted. And that in itself—the turning away from my former states to another state—would be prayer, because prayer is “motion towards, accession to, nearness at, at or in the vicinity of.” So if I turn from one state, I can move closer and closer and closer to the feeling of being the one that I want to be. So, I would not delete it, but in my Bible, the new one, they delete the word fasting, and just simply stick with prayer. To me prayer would include fasting…but no physical fasting. A friend of mine, who is in the Catholic Church, she gave it up to marry the man of her heart, who is also Catholic but he was divorced, and this was her first venture.
