I haven’t read them, but I’ve heard them discussed. I have had many people who come home and discuss these things with me. So I’m not qualified to pass judgment because I haven’t read them. I’ve never attended one of their lectures, so I really don’t know. But if they put I AM as something on the outside to worship, well then, that is not it. But again, I do not know what they do. But those who came home, if they are examples of what is taught, then I could not endorse it. I had someone who came home one day and she needed a little help and she asked me if I would close the door. I said yes, and she said close the window. It’s New York City and I’m on the 16th floor, but still [...]. She asked me to close all things in the room, and then she wondered if I would betray her. What is all this nonsense about? She was a stranger to me and she came seeking help…and we had to be fair to her. So, all of a sudden she stood perfectly still and she began, “I am, I am so-and-so, I am this.” It was such a contradiction. There was not one mood that she felt, just words, words, words, as though that would produce something. You don’t have to declare anything, what would it be like if it were true? Well who is asking the question?—I am. Well, answer it yourself. You know the feeling that would be yours if it were true. Well then, you don’t declare, you simply assume. “Commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still.” So you do not get up in a crowd of a thousand and start shouting “I am”! They should all start running. So if she was any example of what they teach, I could not endorse it. But again, I am not qualified, I haven’t read one of their books, I’ve never attended one of their meetings, so I do not know.753 ¶27
