Thank you. Well, I would love to — I read Bennett’s book. Bennett confesses himself, he’s a man without vision — of his confession, he’s never had a mystical experience. He is the Headmaster of the Green College of the University of Melbourne, and — on top of that, a very learned man, he calls himself — that is his profession — and my only acquaintance with Bennett is second-hand: I liked what he had done in “Imprisoned Splendour,” “Concerning Subud” — the last book, once you’re on that theme, I didn’t care for it, but after he brought out “Concerning Subud,” a friend of mine sent two of my books, “Your Faith Is Your Fortune” and “Awakened Imagination,” and I have a copy of the letter that he wrote to my friend — it was not very sane of him, not very nice of him, or wise, but the Bible tells us that “he who answers without hearing it is folly and shame unto him” — to the expression of an opinion on a book that he had not read is stupid indeed. And he wrote to say that my title “Your Faith Is Your Fortune” is a false title — it should be “Your Peace Is Your Fortune,” or “Your Thoughts Are” — and he never read it, as he prayed in the matter, and he wouldn’t even lead anybody — he only signs his name “Neville,” I know, it was too theatrical, not signing a last name or a first name — you know, about the last name or the first name — and his whole letter to my friend was so stupid, a little child could have written it. No, I said to myself, “oh, here’s a man without vision.” So the man without vision, no matter what he has to say, doesn’t interest me — he would only read the book if it could be signed with many degrees behind the name. I did not sign one name, but it was as many names always needed — I had the impulse of writing, besides, and I didn’t, and asked him what was the last name of Jesus, or what was the last name of Paul, or the last name of Moses, and I wonder what God’s last name is. But I mean, these — these little silly things — he places a small little thought in his letter, he didn’t read the book, not one word of it, he noted my book’s title — so what he has to say about this doesn’t interest me at all.1166 ¶72
