Revelation of the Word Within

In all the revelations that await us there is none so fundamental as the revelation of the Word within us. I can’t tell anyone the ecstasy, the joy that awaits them when they discover that “In the volume of the book it is all about me” . From Genesis to Revelation the whole vast book is about the individual in whom the Word is revealed. He is the interpreter of the book. And when he discovers that he was the one who was sent—he is the Word of God who cannot return empty but must accomplish that which God purposed, and prosper in the thing for which it was sent —the thrill that I am that Word! The thrill that I am the Word that became flesh, and now I am clad in a robe dipped in blood, this flesh and blood; and the name by which I shall be called is the Word of God, and that this “Word of God was in the beginning, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” . Then it dawns upon one that he is that Word sent for a divine purpose and the purpose was to fulfill the Word we call scripture! There is no other purpose for his being here; not to become rich, famous, known, strong, weak, only to fulfill the Word…the most fantastic play in the world.559 ¶1

Now he will fulfill it in a living way, for the Word in the written form is dead and the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive. He is the living Word that comes to interpret the seeming dead letter. Then he makes that discovery that he is the Word, that the whole story of Jesus from his conception by the Holy Spirit to his ascension into heaven is a sign granted by God to those who will receive it. Formerly he thought of Jesus as someone external to himself; he thought of the Word of God as something completely external to himself. That the whole book was something that was dated, thousands of years ago, through men he referred to as the prophets, as the servants of a God that he did not know. And then comes the revelation. The revelation unfolds within him and he discovers that he is the Word, that the Jesus of scripture is himself, and he can say within himself, “I am Mary and birth to Christ must give, If I in blessedness now and evermore would live” . He brings forth himself. For he is the Word and “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God” and he is that Word. He sees the entire book unfold within himself. But everything said of the “pattern man” he experiences in the first-person, present-tense. Now it is taking place within me and he knows it. All said of him I am experiencing, so it is said of me, “In the volume of the book it is written of me.” I can’t tell anyone the thrill, the ecstasy that is theirs when they make that discovery…the whole vast world changes.559 ¶2

You don’t care what anyone achieves in this world. You wish they could get all of their dreams in the world of Caesar. It doesn’t matter what they want, grant it. It doesn’t matter at all, it all fades into nothing. If they own the earth and enslave all, it still would be nothing. But the Word cannot return void. The Word did not come to own the earth but to fulfill scripture: “Scripture must be fulfilled in me.” And then, “Beginning with Moses and the law and all the prophets and the psalms, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” …that this was written of me and this is what it means. For I tell you from experience this is how it happens.559 ¶3

So, we are the Word spoken by God, but remember, God himself is the Word. The author of the play plays the parts, for there is no one else to play it. He had to become the actors in the drama and they cannot return empty. They play it completely and perfectly. But what they’re really going to play…the final revelation…is when it unfolds within him and he is the Word. Whether he has unnumbered fortunes in the world, that is not important.559 ¶4

Today, when you see people so surprised and so shocked because of some so-called turning aside from an ethical code….and we take now one of our justices, why should we be shocked? What man walking the earth could cast a stone? What man that’s ever walked this earth could say he was innocent of a similar deed? Because, we are told in scripture, to want it without having the courage to do it was to have done it anyway. “For you’ve heard it said, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who lusts after a woman has already committed the act in his heart with her” . So it’s a psychological drama. What man is innocent of that lust? What man is innocent of the lust for personal gain? Why should we be shocked and offended when we see injustice and all these things in high places?559 ¶5

Do we not have all of our officials…and they have very good reason for it…for by example of those above them they are encouraged to use their vocation for personal gain. Everyone this night is on the roster of a great agency to go out and earn a fortune giving lectures. They don’t have to know their subject at all. All they need do is publicize themselves. If they can get publicized they can get a fortune, because everyone wants to know the one who is known in the world of Caesar. Out they come to see and to touch and to hear one.559 ¶6

In 1941 when I brought out my first book, Harper Brothers sent me over to a place called Peakings…and they said to me, Mr. Peakings himself—he’s gone now, he was the oldest agent in the country for speakers; he had Mrs. Roosevelt on the list, he had Churchill on the list, he had them all on his list. He gave me a very nice wonderful interview because I came from Harpers Bros. They said they couldn’t handle my books unless I got promotion and I was completely unknown…to that I admitted. Mr. Peakings was a sweet, lovely gentleman, mature in years. In those days I was a young man and he was a very, very elderly gentleman and very gracious. He said to me, “Neville, you’re completely unknown. If you could go out and shoot someone and get off and get publicized, I could sell you night after night for hundreds and hundreds of dollars to all kinds of clubs. They love to meet the one who shot someone and who got off. I could sell Mrs. Roosevelt tomorrow…I sell her every week at $1,200 a lecture. I could sell her with any subject at all. She’s the mother of many children. I could sell her if her subject was ‘What it feels like never to have known a man.’ If that was her subject it would make no difference…it is Mrs. Roosevelt they’re coming to hear. And so, go out and do something that is ghastly and get out of jail, try to avoid being sentenced, and come back and I can sell you across the country…because I can only sell names.”559 ¶7

Now today, someone gets up in Congress and they make the most outrageous statement that could be carried tonight on radio, TV and tomorrow’s press. As they build up that name, then he gets more money for them, and off they go. Because they are encouraged by example by those above them to make what gain they can from their vocation. They all do it and stand aghast at one person in what he did.559 ¶8

But that’s not the play. That belongs here. It goes on over and over and over, and all are guilty…but everyone is guilty. But the play, the real play is the sacred play. It’s written in scripture. It’s a sealed book. Only when the Word unveils itself within man does it become alive and then that which was a dead word begins to unfold within man in a series of experiences. He is not observing them taking place on the outside…not another is born from some so-called virgin. There was no such thing as any physical virgin birth. The birth is from above. You must be born from above and you are born out of your own wonderful skull; and because that hides you that is the Mary of scripture. That is the Jerusalem from above. That is the holy mother. I am Mary and birth to God—I cannot any longer say “must give,” I gave. And now forever in blessedness I will continue, and share it with those who have not yet brought him forth. But the Word cannot return empty, it has to fulfill this pattern…it’s a pattern. Jesus is only the pattern man and that pattern no one is going to change. It starts with the resurrection…when the Word erupts within man and he is the Word, which is God himself. Because who awakes?—I awake. Well, who is rising?—I am; that’s God. Now who is coming out?—I am; that’s God. Who witnesses all these things around him, the three who witness the sign of the child?—I am witnessing them and that’s God. And here, the whole Word becomes a witness to the truth of scripture, which no one prior to the awakening of the Word ever understood.559 ¶9

So, “In the fullness of time, he sent forth his Son into the hearts of man, crying, “Father!” . Well, did that happen? Yes, in the fullness of time…and I looked and here he is calling me “Father.” Well, who is his Father?—God. He’s calling you “Father”? Yes. But you’re a little man. In your mortal eyes yes a little man. But when this little garment which I purposely assumed for my purpose unknown to mortal man is taken off, then you would not have eyes to see me. You see me as long as I wear this robe dipped in blood, and you do not even know my name is the Word of God. But the Word of God was sent forth from the mouth of God: he only sent himself. So “He who sees me sees him who sent me.” I came to do the will of him who sent me, and my Father’s will is to fulfill scripture. In the end, I will say, “Father, I have accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do. Now return unto me the glory that was mine, the glory that I had with thee before that the world was” .559 ¶10

I ask for no other than to return what I emptied myself of when I and you were one, and there was no one to go but yourself, and you sent me. Your Word could not return to you void. It had to bring back that for which it had been purposed; and so, I have returned and I have finished the work that thou gavest me to do. Now glorify me with thyself! For the self is mine, the very self that was mine before that the world was. And so I return to my own being who is God. For, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”559 ¶11

So you come out and you are the Word. But the Word has not yet reached the fullness of time to be erupted. In all the revelation that you could ever experience, there is none more fundamental than the unveiling of the Word in you…when you know you are the Word. Then, because the external Word is called the Bible, and you read it in the 40th Psalm, you come upon the words, “In the volume of the book it is written of me” . The thrill that comes to man when he discovers that this whole vast book that the world calls, and rightly so, a sacred Word, the Word of God, and you were taught to believe it was all about ancient history and it’s contemporary…it’s all about me! Here, now I must unfold within myself this living Word that interprets the written Word. For the Word was dead until the living Word could give meaning to it. So he gives meaning to it by actually unfolding it within himself. He comes back awakened to the truth of God’s Word. He doesn’t change it, he doesn’t in any way add to it or take from it. He simply fulfills it. He fulfills it within himself. Everyone who hears him either accepts it on faith or they don’t. As far as he is concerned he hopes they will accept it, but he has to go on anyway.559 ¶12

There are always those called “the remnant” who are now near the point that they can accept it…always the remnant. “So don’t be concerned,” said he, “Go back, Elijah, I have saved a remnant. There are 7,000 in that city from which you run, and you tell me there are no more waiting? You go back. I have 7,000 waiting who are ready to hear what you can tell them.”559 ¶13

So there will always be a circle who are at the point of breaking through with the seed within man, the Word of God, erupting. As it erupts, the very first of the events is resurrection, and that’s the cornerstone of the entire mystery. The sleeper awakes. Well, who is the sleeper?—God. “Rouse thyself1 Why sleepest thou, O Lord?” . And so, the Lord awakes. Well, what is his name?—I am. Well, who at that moment when it happened to you, who did you feel awakening? I felt myself…I am the one who awoke to find myself completely alone, because God is one. There is no other…it was God who awoke. And then who came out? Well, the same being who awoke, and so I came out. When I came out what did I see? I saw what scripture, the Word of God, told me I would see: I will see witnesses to the event. But they could not see me for I was Spirit and they saw only the sign. The whole vast world has taken the sign for the event. The sign is not the event…it signifies something that actually took place. What took place?—God is born.559 ¶14

God was returning now to himself. He came into the world to fulfill his Word, and now he’s departing from the world. To depart from the world he has to be born from above. If he’s not born from above he has to remain in the world until he fulfills the Word. He cannot go back. Go back where? To his heavenly state which is the kingdom of God. Well, what constitutes the kingdom of God? The Father and the brotherhood of men…all the brothers together form the Father. So, that is the kingdom of God, and so he is returning now, leaving behind him his record. He asks no one on earth to judge him, for no one is capable of judging him, he knows he only has one. So when he returns, is he truly a witness? Here is the book that is a witness. Well now, you the living one, can you testify to it as it states? Because when two come together and they agree in testimony then it is conclusive.559 ¶15

So read the book. Well now, I experienced this. And I can’t fool the watchers from above…for they see not the outer man and hear his words; they see the inner man, and they know if he bears the marks of Jesus or not. Does he bear the marks? Does he carry within himself these experiences as told in scripture? If he does, he’s a witness. So bring the witnesses. Here comes the eternal Word of God, the Bible. Now bring the one that made it alive within himself. Does he testify to that and do they agree in testimony? Do they agree? Well then, enter into the kingdom, into the joy of the Lord!559 ¶16

So he enters in, in that manner, and there’s no other way of entering, other than first to be resurrected which is God’s mightiest act. Then, to be born from above. Then, to discover the Fatherhood of God by having his Son call you “Father.” And then, to have the curtain of the temple, which is your own body, split in two from top to bottom and you like a serpent, in fulfillment of Exodus, rising into heaven like a fiery serpent. Then, to have the seal of approval placed upon you in the form of the descending of the dove that smothers you with love. Then, all the other passages of scripture in the interval are taking place within you night after night. Every part of the Word of God unfolds within you. And then you tell it…and having told it you depart the world.559 ¶17

You know that those who come to you could not come unless the Father within you, who is yourself, calls them. So they will come and they will hear your story, and they will be encouraged by this story. You will tell them that you will be born from above through the resurrection of yourself called in scripture Jesus Christ. So, “I am born anew,” said he, “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” . Now he said, born to a hope, what is the hope? “Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” .559 ¶18

For, this is the hope that makes it wisdom to accept the burden of this long dark night of time. For, here is really a night of terror…a night of terror. Who can say that this day the horrors didn’t take place in the world, murders, stealing? Not only violent murders…that’s bad enough…but when you take someone and you drive him through poverty into shame, into nothing, that’s a living death. You can cut his throat…that’s fair at least…but when you drive him into such an embarrassing state by underpaying him. And you don’t realize what you’re doing to yourself in the doing! For, you are sucking from him his blood. Those who live on blood are the little, well, the termites of the world, really, in a sense. When you think of the fleas that live on dogs which never produce anything themselves; they live on the blood of another. Blood in our language…money is the life blood of the world, and when you underpay a man for his services you are taking his blood.559 ¶19

If you could only see yourself as the awakened man sees you, you would be horrified if you saw what you looked like. You’d be horrified! All the perfumes of Arabia couldn’t stifle the odor that comes from you. You get before the mirror and you spend a fortune on all the things to beautify yourself, and you have all the beautiful clothes because you can afford it; but if you could only see what you really look like in the eyes of those who have eyes to see. You look like a huge, big, monstrous flea…just a flea, yet human but a flea. And you have no idea what a monstrous looking thing it is. Yet it comes out in the world and people are so proud to touch it, and because it’s well-known they’ll get $5,000 for speaking and telling all that it must tell. It gets everything because it’s now publicized in the world. Take off the mask and those who are paying to hear it would run for their lives if they only saw what it looked like.559 ¶20

So I tell you, we are here in this world of educated darkness until he who sent us, watches, and then one moment in time the Word which is himself erupts, and then he fulfills scripture. So leave them all alone. If they want to live on the blood of others, let them live on the blood of others. If they want to do all these things, let them do it. Have no criticism of them; you’ve done it too. You’ve all played these horrible parts. But here in this room, you aren’t playing these parts or you wouldn’t be here. You are drawn here because the one who is speaking to you has fulfilled scripture, and no one comes unto me save my Father calls him, and I and my Father are one .559 ¶21

So having fulfilled the external Word of God, because I am the living Word that he sent into the world to fulfill it, I now return bearing witness to his Word and I can say, as we’re told in the 17th of John, “I have accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do. Now return unto me the glory that was mine, the glory that I had with thee before that the world was.” That’s the only purpose for being here.559 ¶22

So let everyone…let him be. And if it comes within your code of decency, pray for him. He wants money, pray for him. If he wants happiness in this world, pray for it. It will be granted. If he wants to violate your code of decency like murdering someone, send him elsewhere. You would not accept his request, I know you wouldn’t, so let him go elsewhere. May I tell you, if he is so bent, he will. He’ll find someone who will take his money for praying for the demise of someone else, he will.559 ¶23

But you go about your Father’s business and set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the unveiling of the Word of God within you. For when the Word unfolds itself within you, well, I can’t tell you the thrill. You jump off that bed…you can hardly believe that you actually experienced it. You mean that all that was said of Jesus Christ is taking place in me? That this thing is not of the past, it’s contemporary? This is forever and forever, that he’s unfolding himself within me as my very self? Then one after the other happens and you discover it is. Everything he said in scripture you experience, not as an observer but as the central actor in the drama. So let the whole vast world say what they will concerning the mythology of scripture. All you can do is inwardly smile and let them go about their business. Let them go because they will eventually, after all the blows.559 ¶24

For, the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God. Let them become wiser and wiser in their own stupidity, perfectly all right. Let them feel themselves very prominent and very wonderful, perfectly all right. You don’t dethrone them, and you don’t join in their so-called self-adulation. Leave them alone, and set your hope fully upon this grace that is coming to you.559 ¶25

Then you will see that if blows come tonight, all right, I must have at some time in my blindness planted the seed. I must have, for “As a man sows, so shall he reap” . So sometime in the past long forgotten I planted it. I do not recognize my harvest because I do not remember the sowing, but it could not come up into my world had I not sown it. All right, so I will now reap it, and rejoice in the fact that at least it’s come for me to recognize, even in a little way.559 ¶26

Then, know the words of Paul, “I consider the sufferings of the present time not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us” . When that glory is revealed, it’s the Word unfolding and it all unfolds within us.559 ¶27

So I go through whatever is in store for me because of my misuse of the power that I am, for I am the power of God . I am not only the Word sent into being, I am the very power, carrying the pattern of redemption, and I am the instrument of God’s creation. Through me he created it all because I and God are one. And then he sends himself, which is the very being speaking to you…he sends him. So when you see me after the experiences, you see the one who sent me, for I am one with the one who sent me. Anyone who sees me sees him who sent me . And who is the sender?—my Father. And who is your Father?—the one you call God. Only I know my Father, he and I are one, and you know not your God.559 ¶28

But the joy when the book becomes your wonderful biography! Day after day you open that book to realize it was you who inspired the book when it was recorded by those who heard it or who had the vision. Many a time they speak of vision that came only through the audio state as in the opening of the Book of Obadiah, the Book of Amos, and the Book of Isaiah. They speak of having heard and speak of the vision: “I will tell of the vision of the Lord as the Lord spoke unto me.” So they take an audio and speak of it as a vision. It’s right in scripture. But when it happens to you, it’s not audio alone…the whole thing is just like this room, it’s all alive, it’s all real.559 ¶29

Then when that moment in time comes for you to depart this world, you leave it never to return again, never. Those who have not quite reached the point of eruption will find themselves on departure here restored to life in a world just like this, terrestrial and real with solid bodies just like this, with problems just like these, with everything that you have here, the identical world, only they are younger, much younger, usually around twenty. Regardless of what mature age they leave this world, they’re about twenty when they awake just beyond the veil. The veil is not out there; it’s right here. It’s so thin and just here…and yet to mortal eye it’s not transparent, it’s opaque. And because of different weights of vibration, they’re not touched, not seen by those who are here…any more than we are seen and touched by those who are there. There are worlds within worlds within worlds until the Word erupts in man.559 ¶30

So when you are told in the 19th chapter of Revelation that his robe is dipped in blood, don’t think of any red robe that the cardinal wears. Hasn’t a thing to do with the outside, your little garment of flesh and blood that’s the robe that you’re wearing. “And he made for them skins”…now it’s dipped in blood. For, you were Spirit before you came out and now you’re clothed in a robe dipped in blood. And the name by which he’s named and called is the Word of God…that’s you. That Word that was in the beginning that was with God and that was God, that’s you. That Word that became flesh and dwells within us, that’s you. That Word that went forth from the mouth of God that cannot return unto him empty but must accomplish that which he purposed and prosper in the thing for which he sent it, that Word is you. When you say “I am” that’s he, that’s God.559 ¶31

Now in this world, you, too, can use that Word on this level. You can assume that things are as you would like them to be, and persuade yourself that they are. You’ll find yourself carrying on little, tiny unheard conversations and these unheard little words within yourself persuading yourself that things are as you desire them to be, these are words too. That’s why Blake said, “What have I said? What have I done? O all-powerful human words!” . You have no idea what you are doing in the course of a day with these little internal mental conversations which you know no one outside hears. But may I tell you, they are responding to what inwardly you are saying, and you wonder why do they act as they do towards me? They have to because you inwardly are speaking words, too, and these internal conversations are carrying forward into the world, and the world responds in keeping with the word that you send out. You don’t have to bellow the word and you don’t have to utter it audibly at all.559 ¶32

But you can’t think without the use of words. You think anything and all of a sudden you find words clothing the thought. If you meet someone mentally and you will say, “Well, you look remarkably well,” you will think he looks remarkably well. But if you want to express it you could say “You look remarkably well.” Well now, believe that he does look remarkably well and you’ve sent your word. “I heard good news about you. I hear that things have gone up and up and up in your world. I hear that you’ve been making so much money that you don’t know what to do with it.” And, of course, he may even laugh in your mind’s eye. But feel the reality of the word that you uttered. Don’t say it will come in this manner or that manner or the other manner, you simply do it.559 ¶33

Then you will know the power of these words…because you are God. God became man clothed in these mortal garments of flesh and blood that man may become God. So when you see this disturbance in your world you might think, well, why did it happen to me? Because, in your idle moment you are not controlling your Imagination, and you are carrying on arguments with your children, with your parents, with your friends, from premises that are stupid because they need not be. If you know that all these things must come to pass, what are you doing? If you really believe that all these things are producing the results that they imply, well then, stop it. Stop it now and change the record…put on a new record.559 ¶34

But here, the day will come—I trust it isn’t far off, but no one knows the hour, no one—that this fundamental revelation of the unfolding of the Word within you comes to pass. When the whole book that we call the sacred Word of God, and it is, unfolds and you are the central character, you are the actor playing the center part. Then you will know who Jesus is.559 ¶35

Now let us go into the Silence. * * * Now are there any questions, please?559 ¶36

Q and A

Speaker

Well, he’s called Jesus in the beginning because his name shall be called Jesus as you are told in the Book of Luke . Again, in the Book of Matthew, it begins with the word alone “Jesus,” then eventually they tied on the name Christ, which simply means “Messiah,” which simply means the “Anointed One,” which was the title given to David. One has to discriminate between these two titles. It’s not like a man called John and his surname is Smith, John Smith, as some of these scholars believe. It’s a mystery. Every time you open that book you’re looking at a mystery and it’s the mystery of God, not some little mystery written by one of our great mystery writers. This is something that is a mystery. Paul uses the word mystery no less than twenty times. He speaks of the mystery hidden for the ages but now revealed in you as “Christ in you, the hope of glory” : it’s his image. But Jesus is God himself. Jesus and the word Jehovah are one. David in the Old Testament, the Lord God Jehovah called him “my son.” In the New Testament, if one understands how to read it, David in the Spirit called him “my Father.” So if he called Jesus “my Father,” as told you in the 20th chapter of the Book of Luke, when he asked the question…no one asked the question, he brought it up. He said, “What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They answered, ‘The son of David.’ Then he replied, ‘Why then did David in the Spirit call him’—speaking now of another—‘my Lord’? If he thus calls him my Lord, how is he his son?” . He is calling him “my Father” in fulfillment of scripture, which is the 89th Psalm: “I have found David,” said Jehovah, “and he has cried unto me, ‘Thou art my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation” . So if I come to fulfill scripture and the only scripture you can fulfill is the Old Testament—for that was the only scripture when the eruption took place—he’s only fulfilling the Old Testament. So if in the Old Testament David calls the Lord “my Father” and in the 2nd Psalm, the Lord said, “I shall say unto you, ‘Thou art my son, today I begotten thee,’” then in the interval he finds him and calls him “Father.” Well then, if I have come to fulfill scripture and the only scripture is the Old Testament, then I must find David and he must call me Father…for the New is only the pattern that interprets the Old. I know it’s a shock. It would be to you to be told that the whole of the story of Jesus from the conception of the Holy Spirit to his ascension into heaven is a sign…a sign vouchsafed by God to all who will receive it. Will you believe it is a sign? It’s a plan, it’s a pattern, the pattern man, which everyone when the Word in him erupts follows that pattern. There’s no other entry into heaven save the unfolding of that pattern in man, because only Christ resurrects, only God resurrects…so the pattern unfolds in man. Good night.559 ¶38
