Tonight we’ll be on the law. I think you’ll find it a very practical evening. But remember, you are the operant power. It doesn’t operate itself. All day long, whether you know it or not, you are operating it.9018 ¶1

Nothing appears to us in perception which cannot be duplicated in fantasy. Consequently, the world perceived always resembles our private senses and is therefore, as far as the evidence goes, imaginal in character. Here we are trying to find the cause of the phenomena of life. What makes things happen?9018 ¶2

Why is that one poor and that one rich? Why is that one known and the other unknown? And why is one this and the other that?9018 ¶3

And yet we are told in scripture there is only one cause. Only one God. Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God, the Lord is one. There aren’t two gods, there’s only one God. But we have to find out who this one God is.9018 ¶4

If I should speak to you now and say, and speak of your God, the chances are, and you can give it any number you want, a million to one or trillions to one, that hearing the word “your God,” your mind will instantly think of someone or something external to yourself. I do not care how you form it, but you will think of God, your God, as external to yourself. But if I spoke of your imagination, I am certain you will think of no one but yourself. We are told in the 32nd chapter of the book of Deuteronomy that I, even I, am he. And there is no God beside me. I kill, I make alive. I wound, I heal. And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.9018 ¶5

From this we see that the creative power of the world, the creator of the world, is like pure imagining in ourselves. He works in the very depths of our soul, underlying all of our surface life, least disguised in the form of our senses. So you see anything here through your senses, shut your eyes, close your senses completely, and you can reproduce it in fancy.9018 ¶6

Does it teach me anything? Well, I’ll tell you, it’ll teach you everything if you’ll believe it — if I can get you to accept the true God, the only true God, which is your own wonderful human imagination. Does Scripture teach it, really?9018 ¶7

Yes, Scripture does. And the word “the Lord,” the word translated “Lord,” is the Hebrew Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh. It’s not sounded, although if you dared to sound it, it would be translated as “the Lord.” And sometimes “Jehovah.” And sometimes they’ll translate it, which they shouldn’t, as “God.”9018 ¶8

But it is the Lord. Yes. The word Jehovah? Yes. Well, the word Jesus begins Yod-Heh-Vav. So here we find the same root in the word Jesus. Therefore they call him the Lord.9018 ¶9

And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and I will let you hear my word. So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in his hand, but he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to him to do.” Well, the word potter, you think in terms of a man. I know in little Barbados, where I was born, I would go up to the potter’s field. And there he was, working these things out of clay — things where we would put ordinary water into it and in some strange way it chilled it. It would always depend upon a nice cold glass of water if poured from what we called the monkey. It was a thing made of clay, had a little clay top and an open thing like a huge big teapot, but made of clay. In the hottest moment of the day, if you poured it from that clay, it was always nice and cold.9018 ¶10

And so I can see him now, form the entire thing with his hands. But in scripture, the word potter means imagination. You’ll find what I’ve just quoted in the 18th chapter of the book of Jeremiah. You’ll also find it in the 64th chapter of the book of Isaiah.9018 ¶11

Thou art our Father, our potter. Who is the Father? Well, the Lord. Well, the true — and they asked me, what is his name? What shall I say? Say to them, I AM. That is who I am.9018 ¶12

Say to them, I AM has sent me unto you. Not “the Lord has sent me unto you,” or “Jehovah has sent me unto you,” or “Jesus has sent me unto you,” for these always fix the mind outside of self. But say to them, I AM has sent me unto you.9018 ¶13

You want to know his name? Just say, I AM. That is who I am. That is my name forever. And by this name I shall be known throughout all generations.9018 ¶14

But man will not bring himself to believe that that is God. He will not bring himself to believe that his own wonderful human imagination is God. And that is God.9018 ¶15

That forms everything in this world. There is nothing that you now see in the world but what was once only imagined. Their image preceded the objective fact. So objective reality is purely produced through imagining. The suits you wear, the dresses you wear, the chairs on which you are seated, the building that now houses you — everything was only imagined. And then it became an objective reality. And we think the objective state is its reality, and it’s not so at all.9018 ¶16

That which is the imaginative image is its reality. The imaginative image is its reality. Destroy the objective fact — I can reproduce it from the imaginative image.9018 ¶17

It is all within us. Our own wonderful human imagination is the God of Scripture. Now we are told, all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.9018 ¶18

So you walk the earth as the cause of the phenomena of your life. You could be, if you are vivid in your imagination, influencing the imaginations of unnumbered people, and you, unseen by them, are the cause of the phenomena of life. If they are passive, they fall under your influence. If you are powerful in your imagination, you are creating the phenomena of life. And those who are not in control of their imagination, who are moved by the whim of every little rumor, every opinion — they simply sway from side to side as you, in control, move them. You are the one treading in the winepress, and no one knows you. You could be in a dungeon, serving a long, long span of time, and while there, eaten up with a desire, and then in your silent moment you are completely in control of that vivid creative power of the universe, your imagination, and you influence all the people of the world.9018 ¶19

For all things, by a law divine, in one another’s being are mingled. I couldn’t see you if you did not penetrate my brain. I couldn’t hear you if you didn’t penetrate it. So all things by a law divine in one another’s being are mingled.9018 ¶20

The whole vast world is one. You, in control of the creative power, which is your own wonderful human imagination, you can sway the entire vast world. If you can’t do it — as some dictators have tried to do — they bring in their propaganda machines, and then they try to force man into a certain shell, into a certain state. And quite often they succeed up to a point. But you, without the aid of any machine in this world, you can change the structure of your world by the control of your own wonderful human imagination.9018 ¶21

That is God. That is the Lord spoken of in scripture. That is Jesus. Or can you imagine? For that is God in operation. God only acts and is in existing beings, or men. But how does he act?9018 ¶22

As I imagine. I imagine anything. See now that I, even I, am he. I kill and I make alive. I wound and I heal. None can deliver out of my hand. I raise my hand to heaven and cry, I live forever. That’s the immortal you. It cannot die. When you say I AM, it cannot die.9018 ¶23

It’s not confined to the little garment that you’re wearing. That’s a mask that you put upon yourself that you may be seen in this world of shadows. But you are not the mask that you wear. You are an immortal being, and that immortal being is God the Father as spoken of in scripture. But I would like you to begin to feel it is simply I AM.9018 ¶24

And by that, imagination. You can sit down this very moment and begin to dream the most glorious dream in the world concerning yourself. At the moment of the dream, reason denies it, your senses deny it.9018 ¶25

But if you dare to assume that assumption, that you are already that in its fullest, and persist in that assumption, it will harden into fact. Like that I met Isaiah and Ezekiel, and I dined with them last night. And I said to Isaiah, do you really believe that an assumption will harden into flesh? You see, all prophets believe that it does, but today not very many are capable of an assumption of anything — they change from moment to moment. If I could dare to assume that I am what, at the moment, reason denies, and persist in my assumption in a way that I do not know and need not be concerned about, it will actually find the necessary means to externalize itself within my world. That I know from experience, and scripture teaches it from beginning to end.9018 ¶26

This is the law that came after the promise. The promise came first, and that is irrevocable. No one can fail in the fulfillment of the promise. You will awaken one day as God himself, and you will know it. That is the promise.9018 ¶27

But while we are moving through this veil of tears, we have a law. And the law is the law of assumption. If I dare to believe that what I have said will come to pass, and not question it — well, go your way, it will come to pass.9018 ¶28

Here’s a simple, simple thing. My father, in a little tiny island — it’s only 21 miles long by 14 wide, that’s where I was born — he is not a brilliant mind. He’s gone from this world at the age of 85. His time was up when he departed. He had no formal education, very little education. The war came — the First World War came to an end in 1918. The boys began to return in 1919. As these troop ships came in bringing back the boys from Europe and from North Africa, he heard the officers and the captains and the stewards discuss the next world war. I can hear my father now, for in 1919 — I was born in 1905, so here I am, 14 years of age, and all of us are now growing up young men — my father said, “We’ll have another war in 20 years. It’ll break in 1939.”9018 ¶29

Mother said, “Joseph, why do you say that? Look at all of our boys, they’ll all be ready for the war. Why do you say that?”9018 ¶30

And there were nine boys, one girl. He said it will happen in 1939, 20 years. He even named the two sides, and placed Italy on the side of Germany and Japan on the side of Germany, leaving England and France and Russia. He didn’t mention the others — they naturally took it for granted that America would come in to defend the liberty that we have inherited from England, what we now call the Bill of Rights. All this is part of the foundation of that English-speaking world.9018 ¶31

And he thought, well, now America will come at the appropriate time, but in 1939 it will break. Well, on September the 1st, 1939, it broke. I was driving through from Montreal — I had just spent two weeks on the Canadian border. Went into Montreal, and I had, well, champagne and stout — it’s a delightful drink, by the way. And so I had a few of those, and we got into the car and started back. And on the way back, here comes the radio, and here’s the news: England has just declared war on Germany. Germany moved on Poland, England had a treaty and declared war. That was September 1939.9018 ¶32

Now, my father was not a prophet, but he firmly believed in his assumption. He was treading the winepress in this tiny little island called Barbados, 21 miles long by 14 at its widest point. So you don’t have to be in a palace, you don’t have to be in the White House, you don’t have to be in any prominent place or the Vatican. Someone in a dungeon this night is treading the winepress, and who knows what’s going to happen when he has treaded the winepress.9018 ¶33

It is always happening, because he waits on us just as swiftly and as indifferently when the will in us is evil as when it is good. For I kill and I make alive, I wound and I heal. I do all these things. I make the wheel and I create the world. I form the light, I create the darkness. As I told you tonight, I do.9018 ¶34

There’s only one creative power. Don’t think for one moment there are two gods, like a god and a devil. The devil is only the negation, the doubter in this world. But the positive creative power of the world is your own wonderful human imagination — that is God.9018 ¶35

So, as you’re seated here, God is seated here. And where are you going to go to find him? You could find him no place other than where you are. You’ll never find him outside of yourself, approaching you, as some people are talking about it today.9018 ¶36

I turned on the radio, thinking I’m going to see the blast-off to the moon. I thought I had Channel 4. So I sat back in my easy chair. I didn’t know what time it was going to come on — it said maybe 10 minutes to 10. So I turned it on at a quarter to ten.9018 ¶37

Here comes this so-called prophet — he’s from Australia, and he’s being questioned by someone else, and he’s giving all the interpretations of the prophecy of Scripture. And I wonder, is this an insane asylum or something? And here he is giving me all these little dates — why Israel won in six days the last war, rather than others, because Israel always rests on the seventh day. Of all the nonsense in the world — and he is actually, before a pat, undoubtedly a large audience, maybe not last Sunday morning, because it was an important thing, the boys blasting off to the moon. I thought I had Channel 4, and I had Channel 5. So I sat there waiting — maybe some brother has delayed the thing, but I thought it was 4. And after 15 minutes of this nonsense, I got up and checked, and I missed the blast-off. See? Completely gone. Luckily, it was a replay, so they replayed it later, and I saw the blast-off.9018 ¶38

And this goes on every Sunday morning, and then they call him an authority. And he so smiled, he so loved that: “You are an authority on the Bible.” Well, you never heard such nonsense in your life.9018 ¶39

Well, that is it. I’m telling you of the true God. God became as we are, that we may be as He is. And that God is your own wonderful human imagination. So when you say, “I am,” that God — there is no other God. He literally became as we are. Our every breath is the breath of God.9018 ¶40

But he does not in any way interfere with this level of awareness and compel us to be good, compel us to be kind, compel us to be anything. We can exercise the talent. No matter what mistakes we make, what horrors we make in this world — and we have done it, and are still doing it in this world — and who suffers? Only God suffers. But you say, “But I am suffering.”9018 ¶41

That’s his name, forever and forever — he has no other name. It’s not Jehovah, it’s not the Lord, it’s not Jesus, it is simply I AM. That is the Father.9018 ¶42

And so I’m telling you tonight, if you really believe it, you can start now, this night, and change the world in which you live. Start with your own environment. What would it be like if it were true that I am now the man that I would like to be, or the woman that I’d like to be?9018 ¶43

And then simply define it clearly — for the word potter simply means “to mold into a form.” The first definition is imagination. It means to resolve, it means to determine. So you are determining a certain state in your world — a resolution now: “I resolve to be,” and you name it. Not based upon the evidence of your senses, or what reason dictates, but a wish on your part. As we are told in Shakespeare, it has been taught us from the primal state, that he which was, was wished until he was. And so, he is not a reality in my world — he began only as a wish. “I am the man I wanted to be” — it began as a wish. My father became the success that he was when he departed this world — it began as a wish.9018 ¶44

He didn’t have one penny in this world. He went to a school, and what do you think the charges were? A penny a week — the British penny being two cents, it was two halfpennies, one penny, a penny a week. And many a week, his father being a very, very heavy drinker, couldn’t find the penny to pay that fabulous scholastic thing.9018 ¶45

But he came out and started without a decent education, but he had a dream. And he always had the dream.9018 ¶46

And when he was toppled from a small little partnership, two of my brothers went to see the three men who actually maneuvered the entire thing, and they asked, “Why? What happened to Daddy? Why did this thing happen?” You know what one of them said to my two brothers?9018 ¶47

“You got it, so your hat too high.” Well, you can’t throw it high enough, may I tell you. Who in this world is more entitled to any exalted state than you, when housed within you is the only God? So they said, “You got it and threw your hat too high.”9018 ¶48

He wanted him to always remain based upon the level where my parents began in this world. That was not my father’s dream. So the partners all died working for other people at small little salaries, and my father died working only for himself and his sons, at the age of 85, and left ten children, each financially independent. So the truth is, the hat’s too high — it is. If he had lived longer, he would have thrown it even higher. That was my father’s dream.9018 ¶49

So do not let anyone tell you to be satisfied with this, that, or the other. It is the God in you that gives you desire. You wouldn’t eat tonight if you didn’t have a desire. And who is desiring? It is God desiring, desiring constantly to transcend himself. And so tonight you dream, dream noble dreams.9018 ¶50

I am telling you, those who are coming here, those who have been coming through the years — New York, San Francisco, and elsewhere — they’re now beginning to really come into a head, to awaken to the truth that I have been telling you through the years, that you’re going to discover that you are God the Father. Thou art our Father, yet our Potter, and we are the clay in thy hand. The day will come you’ll discover why we call this the clay.9018 ¶51

We are emotional filters, and we bear the marks of our prevalent emotions, and he allows these marks, good, bad, or indifferent. He does not in any way dictate what I should entertain as a thought. All right, entertain it. So I want to feel sorry for myself and go out and eat worms? Go and eat the worms, have some more.9018 ¶52

That’s exactly what he does to all of us. No compassion whatsoever — not to think for one moment that he’s going to stop you in the act. He allows you to completely run your own world as a world and make all the mistakes in the world.9018 ¶53

Thou hast delivered us into our iniquity. And the word “deliver,” in Greek, in Hebrew, and in Latin, means to melt. He has melted us, and melted us into our iniquity, so we are so much a part of it we can’t even separate ourselves from these infirmities. He allows us to be delivered right into our iniquity, as told us in the 64th chapter of the book of Isaiah. Read it carefully, and you’ll see this vision that possessed these men who were qualified to hear from the depths of their own selves, for they heard it as adumbrations. And then came the understanding of these shadows, these foreshadowings.9018 ¶54

And the day will come that everyone in this world will discover he is God the Father. And because he is the Father, then there must be a son. And that son is David. David is the Christ. Open all the scriptures — but man doesn’t know that yet. I am telling you from experience, I know it. And one day you’re going to actually see the Christ, who reveals you as the Lord, who is the Father.9018 ¶55

So David is called — not in scripture — the thing is going dead again. All right, here we start back. Is it back? Yes.9018 ¶56

So I’m telling you, there’s only Father and Son in this entire wonderful story. Well then, who then is this David that is the son?9018 ¶57

David is the sum total of all the parts that the Lord I AM has played. He is the resultant state, and you played all the parts — good, bad, and indifferent. And having played all the parts, then the sum total, the resultant state, comes out, and there he stands before you.9018 ¶58

And he is David. David is the resultant state, the Christ, the anointed one of the Father. And it takes him to reveal you as God the Father.9018 ¶59

And everyone is going to have this experience. There’s a lady here tonight who had this experience back in November. She said, “I came upon this beautiful youth of sheer innocence, about 13 years of age, ruddy of complexion, as described in the 16th chapter of 1 Samuel. And he came to me and he said, ‘You are in the fatherhood degree.’9018 ¶60

And I said to him, ‘How do you know?’ He said to me, ‘I know. I know.’”9018 ¶61

And then the vision faded. Then she said, “I had this experience.”9018 ¶62

I saw three men walking towards me. They were all with a heavenly smile on their face. As they approached, they so resembled each other they could be triplets — they could be brothers, but triplets, they were so completely alike as they approached.9018 ¶63

And one had an infant wrapped in a blanket. And he came towards me and placed it in my hand. And I took the infant, and I knew it was my child.9018 ¶64

“Now, two days prior to this experience, lying on my bed, I saw these heavenly colors — well, purple, sort of the amethyst color. And then as they faded, it formed into the most wonderful, brilliant star. I’m looking at the star when suddenly the whole thing faded, and two days later came these three messengers bringing the infant child.”9018 ¶65

Well, that’s told us in the book of Genesis. Abraham sat in the heat of the day, as he sat in the tent, and three men appeared to announce to him that he would be a father, in spite of his advanced years — and Sarah, it had ceased to be with her after the manner of women.9018 ¶66

This is all beautiful imagery. It’s all you. You are the Abraham. You are the Sarah.9018 ¶67

And Isaac is the child that is given as a sign of your birth from above. And so here she had the most marvelous experience. She knew the child was hers, and three messengers, so alike they looked like triplets. And then the star that preceded the entire thing by two days.9018 ¶68

And then the youth who said to her, “You are in the fatherhood degree.” And when she asked, “How do you know?” he replied, “I know.” And then affirmed it by the second statement: “I know.”9018 ¶69

So I tell you, the law came after the promise. The promise is something that you cannot lose — no one can lose it. You could be the most horrible dreamer in the world — and that’s all we are anyway, dreaming these fantastic dreams, and some are horrible — but you cannot lose the promise. You can work the law beautifully, up to the extreme; it does not mean in any way you’re going to earn the promise. The promise comes in spite of your use of law. But while we’re in the world of Caesar, why not understand the law and use it wisely?9018 ¶70

Every moment of time you must be watchful, aware of what you are imagining. To try to change circumstances before you change your imaginal activity is to struggle against the very nature of things, because your imaginal activity is actually producing objective reality. And so, until I change that which is the cause of the phenomenon of life, I’m going to reproduce the same thing in my world. So start tonight to change it by changing the imaginal activity.9018 ¶71

So here Fawcett said — and I think it’s a very marvelous statement that he made — “The secret of imagining is the greatest of all problems, to the solution of which all should aspire, for supreme power, supreme wisdom, supreme delight lies in the far-off solution of this mystery.” There are so many facets to it. Here I stand, and I say I’m all imagination, but am I really here based upon the evidence of my senses? Can I not block out what my reason and my senses are dictating and be elsewhere? Can I not imagine myself to be elsewhere and view the world from there, instead of wanting to be there? I’m viewing it from here, which tells me I am not. You can be any place you want to be in this world. Man must be wherever he is in imagination, for man is all imagination. So I will simply imagine myself to be elsewhere, if that’s where I want to be, or to be other than what I am, if that’s what I want to be, and view the world from that assumption.9018 ¶72

“Go forward and prepare the place,” he says. “Wherever the sole of your foot shall tread upon, the same gave I unto you.” Wherever the sole of my foot treads, he gives me, for they don’t remain here all the time if I want to be elsewhere. And the elsewhere need not be spatial — it could be in a financial manner, it could be in a social manner, it could be in any manner. And so I would dare to tread on a different level. I would dare to assume that I am that which I want to be. I’m treading on it.9018 ¶73

And I must be wherever I am in imagination, for I am all imagination. Man is all imagination, and God is man, and exists in us, and we in him. The eternal body of man is the imagination, and that is God himself. The divine body we call Jesus is your own wonderful human imagination, and you beat him morning, noon, and night by the misuse of your imagination. He bears all the stripes of man, but he’s only your own wonderful human imagination, and he is the immortal you. One day he will awaken in you, not as another, but as you. Let these fellows go forward believing that some strange thing is going to happen, and he’s going to come out of the clouds and shake their hands — they’ll wait forever. When he comes, he comes from within, because he is with him.9018 ¶74

Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you, unless of course you have failed to meet the test? Examine yourself to see whether you’re holding to the faith. Jesus Christ is in you. Do you not realize that you are the temple of the Lord, and the Spirit of God dwells in you?9018 ¶75

If he dwells in me, why look on the outside for him to come? When he comes, he comes only to awaken within me, because he’s already within me. He awakes within me as the very being in whom he awakes. And then I see confirmation of that when I see the resultant state, David.9018 ¶76

And it’s handsome, wonderful — you can have a one-time thing. Oh, they can attempt it, but you can’t paint or sculpt the beauty of David. He’s beyond description. Something alive that you cannot describe — that’s the resultant state of all the parts that the Lord has played. And who is the Lord? I am he. So you’re told you will die in your sins unless you believe, I am he. Now this is what it means, an external God. They find it so much easier to stick him on the wall and cross themselves and get lemon ginger flakes. “That’s done, therefore, today. Therefore my work today is done. Now we’ll do it again tomorrow. Meanwhile, I go about my business doing all kinds of nonsense with my imagination, and I think I serve the Lord.” It’s not something you do once in the morning before some little thing on the wall. It’s something you do 24 hours a day. You carry it right into the dream world, I think, and there your reactions are as they should be when you’re awake, here — if you’re completely in control of your wonderful human imagination, for that’s God, that’s the creative power of the world. So take anyone, wherever he is, and just try to lift him up to something other than what he seems to be, if he wants to be other than what he is. And ask him to persist to the best of his ability in that new assumption, and to feel it as you would a suit of clothes.9018 ¶77

It’s new when you first buy it, wear it for a week, it’s all stopped. The first day you put it on, everyone knows you’re wearing a new suit — and really no one does, but you do. And so it’s what you do. And so after a little while, it’s an old suit. So put on the feeling — it’s like something new when you first put it on. And wear it. And then after a while it becomes so natural, and then it objectifies itself in your world, and you become exactly what you’ve assumed that you are. For an assumption, though false, if persisted in, will harden into fact. You try it.9018 ¶78

Who would have thought an insane person like a Hitler or a Stalin could, by a mere assumption, rise to the heights that they did, and actually control intelligent men and women — a hundred million Germans, the other two hundred-odd million Russians? And they could destroy them with impunity. Killed millions with impunity. They weren’t put on trial.9018 ¶79

Yet both were thieves and robbers before they actually moved to that position. Stalin was a bank robber and served time for it, and yet they honored him over the years — he was there, knowing all along he was insane. While you can’t conceive of a man called Hitler as sane, he was just as insane as anyone could be, but he did assume, and boldly assume, and he lived in it.9018 ¶80

That’s what I mean by this strange, peculiar law that kills and makes alive, and wounds and heals. It makes the dark and creates the light. It forms the real and still creates the world. It does all things, and none can deliver out of my hand. So it’s entirely up to us what we are going to do with this creative power in the world, when we ourselves are that power. You don’t say we’re going to take it from outside and use it — we are the power, we are the creative power of the universe. And that power the world calls God.9018 ¶81

But in calling it God, and calling it Jehovah, and calling it Lord, they are missing the point, because they put it on the outside. If you really want to know, read the third chapter, the 14th verse, of Exodus. That’s where the name is beautifully described for us: “And when I come to the people of Israel, and I tell them, the God of your fathers sent me to you, and they say, ‘What is his name? What shall I say?’ say unto them, I AM. That is who I am.” And when you go to them, you just say, “I AM has sent me to you. And that is my name forever, and by that name I shall be known throughout all generations.” But Israel finds it difficult to keep the king. And so it’s always something other than I AM. It’s so much easier to blame someone other than self for the things that are happening to us. And I point here, there, and elsewhere. I forget what I did in my idle moment, and when the harvest comes up for me to reap it, I deny that I planted these seeds. When on earth did I plant them? Well, if I was honest with myself, I would know. You plant them morning, noon, and night. In the course of a day, a number of idle moments catch you thinking all kinds of things.9018 ¶82

You don’t know the people, and yet you’re reacting and doing all kinds of things.9018 ¶83

The Truth Of Christ Is Here

There is something in this changing, changing world that never changes, and Scripture refers to that which never changes as Truth. So, Paul said, “The Truth of Christ is here.” Now he defines Christ as “the power of God and the wisdom of God.” He confesses that once he thought Christ to be a man. He said, “Hereafter, I regard no one from the human point of view. Even though I once regarded Christ from the human point of view, I regard him thus no longer.” He saw Christ as a plan – God’s plan of redemption of man. But really, it was the redemption of himself, because God became man, that man might become God. So, he saw Christ differently and there was no one to this day who was greater than Paul concerning the spread of the knowledge of the truth of Christ. He never changed his religion. He said, “I am of the seed of Abraham of the tribe of Benjamin, a Pharisee of the Pharisees.” He knew his Law backwards.9017 ¶1

But he reinterpreted Scripture in the light of his own experiences, and Paul was the first one to use the word Christ, for his letters preceded the Gospels by at least 25 to 30 years. The Gospels were written after the letters of Paul – whoever Paul was. His first name, as we know from Scripture, was Saul, and Saul was an insane king, chosen by man. And then Saul’s name was changed to Paul after he had the vision.9017 ¶2

And so, in the light of his own experience, he reinterpreted the Scriptures, and then he wrote these thirteen Letters, and he called Christ “the power of God” – the creative power of God – “and the wisdom of God.” Then he said, “The truth of Christ is infinite.” So, listen to what he is talking about when he is talking about – and he only talked about – Christ after he realized the mystery. Now, here tonight we can bring it down to the most wonderful level and show you how to apply this Principle, not forgetting the greatest thing, which is the purpose of it all, which is to transform man into God. But really not so much transforming man into God, but to redeem God, who came down and assumed the limitations and the weaknesses of man, and then He goes back to Himself as He was before, but enhanced by reason of the experience.9017 ¶3

You did not begin in your mother’s womb. You were “in the beginning” with God. You are God. And it was God who made the decision who came down into this world called death, and assumed the weaknesses and the limitations of man. You will return to the Being that you were prior to coming down. As the Psalmist said, “Rouse thyself. Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Awake. Do not cast us off forever.”9017 ¶4

It is God-in man, that is sleeping and dreaming this Dream of Life. Paul realized it, and he knew that while we are dreaming the Dream of Life, we could dream it as we would like to dream. If you ever discover yourself dreaming, you can either awake from the dream or control the dream. If you know you are dreaming, you can control it. I tell you, you are God dreaming this Dream of Life. You may not know you are, I am telling you that you are.9017 ¶5

You can put it to the test, and no power in the world can stop it because there is no other power. “Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.” That Power is buried in you. When you say, “I am,” that’s God.9017 ¶6

Now, what are you assuming that you are? You can assume anything in this world, for the Being-assuming is God. Can you believe in the reality of your assumption? Can you believe that which at the moment your reason denies and your senses deny? Can you believe it? If you can believe it, no power in the world can stop it from objectifying in this world of ours – but no one.9017 ¶7

Let me share with you some of my own discoveries. We go back, now, to the Psalmist, and the Psalmist asks the question concerning this life: he said: “Send Thy light and Thy truth to me. Let them bring me to Thy holy hill and to Thy dwelling.” Now, when the story is told, it takes a man to tell it, for it takes a man to express the power of God and the wisdom of God, and this one makes the claim, “I am the Light of the world. I am the Truth.” So, when the Psalmist pleads to the Light and the Truth to lead him, and to lead him to the hill and the dwelling of God, one comes into the world in whom the Light unfolds and the Truth unfolds, and he declares, “I am the Light of the world. I am the Truth.” Yes – “I am the Way, I am the Truth, I am the Light” – the one and only true and living way. To what? To the Source of all creation, called in Scripture “the Father.” “No one comes to the Father but by Me, for I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.” But Paul discovered this was not a man. This was a pattern. So, in him, Christ became the Pattern Man.9017 ¶8

“Follow the pattern of the true words which you have heard from me. Guard the truth which has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. Do not turn to the left or the right.” You guard this Truth, and the Truth is the pattern of “the true words, which you have heard from me.” He knew his Old Testament.9017 ¶9

There was no other testament. He never quoted any other book. He didn’t quote the great classics proceeding the age – only the Old Testament.9017 ¶10

And here he saw it in an entirely different light. He saw the Old Testament as an adumbration – an intimation, and then, when it happened in him, he reinterpreted the Old in the light of his own experience, and then he told it. Then came our Evangelists, who told it for our sake, and told it in the form of a man. “For truth embodied in a tale Shall enter in at lowly doors.” [Tennyson] So they took it, and they told it in the form of a man, and the world has accepted it as a man. And he is speaking of a Cosmic Christ – a cosmic principle, which is the power and the wisdom of God, the Creator of all. This is buried in us. Now let me share with you a simple, simple technique. You might have done this. I hope you have. I know from my own experience before these major things happened in me of a mystical nature, you are going to have this experience – I know it.9017 ¶11

Have you ever closed your eyes – not forcefully – just simply closed them, and turned your attention inward into your skull, and just wait? And after you have seen all the dark convolutions of the brain, they turn into light. And haven’t they come around your head, and then moved off like smoke rings, only they are light rings? And you see this luminous, golden light go off like rings and rings of light going off. So, we turn back to the 43rd Psalm: “Send me Thy light and Thy truth to lead me and to bring me to the Holy Hill and to Thy dwelling place.” Well, I have found it. I’m sitting in the Silence, and then this whole thing envelops me, all golden, liquid light.9017 ¶12

Thinking of a friend and what the friend would like in this world, I bring that friend before me. But his request, or her request, must conform to the Golden Rule. In other words, I will ask nothing for anyone that I would not ask for myself. If they ask me to hear that you are dead that they may inherit your wealth, I could not be the one to whom they should turn. Turn elsewhere, but don’t come to me to ask me to hurt anyone for your personal gain. But ask me anything – and it’s a simple matter.9017 ¶13

In the Silence, to just see is the most obvious thing in the world – these wonderful, golden, liquid circles that surround your head, and then they go off like someone blowing smoke rings, only instead of smoke, they are made of golden, liquid light. So, “Send me your light and your truth,” for we are told: “You shall know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free” – in this light, for “I am the Light of the world.” I will send, now, that thought on the light, and it cannot return unto me void, but “it must accomplish that which I purpose and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”9017 ¶14

And so, while you are seated in the Silence, just simply think of your friend as having what he asked, or she asked, of you, and then just simply break it. And your word has gone forth from you. But you say, “That’s from you, a man.” Don’t you know that God became you? It went forth from you, but God became man, that man might become God.9017 ¶15

So, in the Silence, who are you? Who is doing it? I am.9017 ¶16

Well, what is His name? I AM. That’s His name forever and forever.9017 ¶17

But who is doing it? Who said he was the light of the world? He said, “I am the Light of the world.” What is this Light? Isn’t this, now the Truth? “Well,” you say, “maybe, and maybe not.”9017 ¶18

Well, wait and see if it isn’t true. If it proves itself in performance, then is it not true? And if others deny it because it doesn’t make sense, does it matter what they think? If there is evidence for a thing, what does it matter what the world thinks?9017 ¶19

It’s a simple, simple technique. I hope you’ve had the thrill of seeing this wonderful golden light emanating from your head. It happens before you are born from above. So, do not condition it by thinking you must first be born from above. You do not. It is there because God is already in you. Yes, He is awaiting birth within you. Frankly, He is awaiting the discovery of Himself through the Son standing before Him and calling Him Father. For the purpose of life is to find the Father. “How long, how vast, how severe the anguish ’ere we find the Father were long to tell.” But the Father has been built in since Eternity into these dark convolutions of the human brain. That’s where the Father is.9017 ¶20

You will never come into the presence of someone that you will call Father. You will come into the presence of someone who will call you Father. You will never find the Father outside of your Self. When you find the Father, it’s because His Son calls you Father.9017 ¶21

There is no other Father. So, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.” To what? To the Father. “No one comes unto the Father but by me.” “Well now, show us the Father.” “Have I been so long with you, Philip, and yet you do not know the Father? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How then can you say, Show us the Father?”9017 ¶22

The day will come, you will find the Father, but you will not find a man or a being standing before you that you feel like calling “Father.” You will find a being standing before you, and instantly you will know – memory returns at that moment – that he is your son David. And David calls you Father, and you awake from your long self-imposed sleep, for you deliberately became man for a purpose. “No man takes away my life.”9017 ¶23

I lay it down myself. I have the power to lay it down and the power to raise it up again. So, no one takes away my life.9017 ¶24

God deliberately became humanity, and He plays all the parts, and when He played them all, He came out. And the sum total of all the parts, gathered together into one single being, projected, became David. For humanity has done, and is doing, and will continue to do the will of God. So no matter what a man had done, is doing, or will do, he is only doing the will of God. But God is not someone other than your Self. God, in action, is your own wonderful human imagination, imagining and humanity is expressing the imaginal acts of man. That’s God. Everything that man has imagined – is now imagining – or will imagine, will be expressed, and humanity will express it. The individual comes out, but He is playing all the parts, and He can say, “Forgive them, they know not what they do.” But each will come out, having played all the parts, and then he will be confronted with one being, a youth named David, and David will call him “Father”; and then the drama is over and he knows Who He Is. He is God the Father.9017 ¶25

For the whole search of man is for the key, the Source of the phenomena of life, and there’s only one God, and that God is your own wonderful human imagination. So, you are in search of that God. You will find Him, may I tell you, because Truth, in Scripture, is that which is firm and unchangeable. Let no one tell you that you will find it by dieting, by going to holy places, by attending services on Sunday morning, by going to Mass, by any outside ritual. Forget it. You are told: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Well, how do I think I’m “pure in heart”? By diets? By going to church? By doing all the things that people tell me to do?9017 ¶26

No. Man is purified by the death of his delusions. As he dies to all of his delusions, he begins to awake, and it comes suddenly upon him – one delusion: that the white man is better than other colors, or the black man is better than other colors, or the yellow man is better, or the Christian is better, or the Jew is better, or the social worker because of his progress is better. All these are delusions. But God-in-you is the Father. He will lead you through unnumbered experiences and take you into an experience that you could never consciously devise and shatter your delusions.9017 ¶27

When the black man is looked down upon, one day he will save your earthly life. A black man would forfeit himself to save you from an ultimate, inevitable destruction. Or it could be the reverse: if he looks down upon the white, the white will give his life to save the black. And in that moment, that individual is saved by the death of that delusion.9017 ¶28

So, everything here is all right. It’s perfect.9017 ¶29

You will come out of everything in this world; and when you come out, you are God. We are told, “No one ascends into Heaven but he who descended from Heaven – the Son of Man.” You do not know you’ve descended from Heaven, but I know that you have. You came out “before that the world was.” You descended from Heaven, or you could never in eternity ascend into Heaven. And then you are told in Scripture how you will ascend. He identifies Himself as the “Son of Man.” He said, “No one ascends into heaven but the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.”9017 ¶30

Now he asks the question: “Who do men say that the Son of Man is?” And they answered, “John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the Prophets.” Then he asks this question: “But who do you say that I am?” He identifies himself with the Son of Man. And the answer comes back: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” He equates the Son of God with himself when he says, “I am,” and then he accepts the answer, “Thou art the Christ.”9017 ¶31

He is the Power that was sent into the world, for “Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.” But he confessed that the one sent is one with the Sender: “He who sees me sees Him who sent me.” So, the being sent is not inferior as to its Essential Being, only as to the office, in this case as the sent, but not as to its Essential Being. “The Father and the Son are one” but when he is playing the part of the sent, he is the Son, and seemingly inferior as the sent – the ambassador. He is one with Himself, the Sender.9017 ¶32

So, “He who sees me sees Him who sent me.” So, I am not divorced from Him; He has never left me alone. So here, if I am ever to ascend, well then, I must be the one who descended, and that I know from my own personal experience. And just as you are told in the Old Testament in the 21st chapter of Numbers, “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness” – what was the serpent? – It was a fiery serpent, a brazen, fiery serpent. That’s exactly how you are lifted up. You are split in two from top to bottom, and then you behold this fiery, golden, liquid light at the base of your spine; and, like a serpent – a fiery serpent, coiled like spiral lightning – you ascend into heaven.9017 ¶33

Well, where is heaven? “The kingdom of heaven is within you,” we are told in the 17th [chapter] of Luke. So, if I would go into heaven, where would I go?9017 ¶34

I’d return within myself, into this immortal skull, and it reverberates when I re-enter that state. So, I return “like the fiery serpent.” Well, who returns? Only one Being can return – the one who descended. And if only the Son of Man descended, then, though I did not know it, I must have been all along that Son of Man. But I was dreaming, and I was the one who sought the blessing, for he said: “Rouse Thyself. Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Awake.” “Why cast us off forever?” as told us in the 44th Psalm. “Rouse Thyself.” He is speaking to the Lord.9017 ¶35

Well, who is sleeping in man at the moment? The Lord descended to this limitation called Man, and while buried in man, he dreams the Dream of Life. But while He’s dreaming, may I tell you, you can be anything that you want to be – but anything – absolutely. Catch the mood. What would the feeling be like if it were true? I told you a few – I think – maybe – months ago of a friend of mine who called me.9017 ¶36

She never had money. I gave her away because she asked me to give her away. She said, “I have no father to give me.” Whether the father was here, I do not know. And so I said, “Willingly, I’ll give you away.”9017 ¶37

So, I arranged it – almost like a funeral. When they said, “Who giveth this woman to this man?” I stepped forward and said, “I do.” So, I gave her away. At the reception, this lady came by along with these people, and this one said, “Who are you?” I said, “I am the bride’s ‘father’; I just gave her away.” She said, “I know you gave her away all right, but who are you?” I said, “I am her ‘father.’” She said, “Yes, but I happen to be her sister.”9017 ¶38

All right, so that was it. She had no money; he had no money. About eight months ago she called me and said to me, “Would you hear good news for me?” I said, “Within the Golden Rule, yes.” “Well,” she said, “it’s within the Golden Rule.”9017 ¶39

I want ten million dollars. I said, “I don’t care if you want a billion. So you want ten million dollars?”9017 ¶40

All that I will do is what I would do for someone who said, ‘I can’t pay my rent; it’s due, and it is a hundred dollars.’ It’s the same thing to me. Words do not return void, if you send them out on the Light. “Send Thy light and Thy truth to lead me.” So, I heard it.9017 ¶41

Six months went by, and she called me up: she called me up and said her brother had received an estate of one hundred million dollars. They were all poor people, but I wasn’t going to hold my breath for my million. She promised me a million dollars. But it is all, now, the consciousness of wealth. That’s what I am getting at. They are all ready for this hundred million dollars, that eventually will be settled, maybe after they are all gone from this world. When an estate of that nature comes into this world, there are unnumbered people who will claim that they are illegitimate children of the one who died.9017 ¶42

So, I didn’t tell her that. I only knew it takes time for these enormous estates, they are put there by a consciousness of wealth. So, she calls me last week. She said, “You know, Neville, these two elderly ladies” – He has a little church not far from here, and they give her their thanks – well on in years; and they said to him and to her, “You know, we are millionaires?” Well, they couldn’t believe it, for they couldn’t afford to give even a dollar, but they said they were millionaires, and to prove that they had money, they paid off the mortgage a hundred per cent on the little church and the home, and bought a new car for her – and they were driving a Continental, having set up a trust fund for her of one thousand dollars a month for the rest of her earthly days. She grew into the consciousness of being wealthy.9017 ¶43

And they do it as you would fish if it’s properly baited. It’s all in your consciousness. You cannot be in the consciousness of being poor and attract anything but poverty. All these are states. The man tonight who is sitting in the highest position in our country, or in Russia, or in England or in any part of the world, is the same Being who is now shining shoes for a living. They are only states of consciousness.9017 ¶44

One is in the consciousness of being wanted and important, and he thinks himself so important – he is doing you a favor if he lets you cut his hair. And the barber is so proud that he can cut the man’s hair, and both are the same Being. For God is one. There are not two gods. “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” There are infinite states of consciousness, and we are pilgrims passing through. When you pass through and you are in the state of poverty, and I say, “Who is poor?” you would answer, “I am.” Well, you have called the name of God. And then I meet someone who thinks he has a billion or two billion dollars, and I say, “Who is a fabulously wealthy person?” and he will say, “I am,” with great pride; but he doesn’t differ in name (the name of God) from the poor one who can’t pay the rent. It’s only a difference in state. “So I do not consider either the just or the wicked to be in a supreme state, but to be every one of them, states of the sleep into which the Soul may fall in its deadly dream of good and evil.” [Blake, from “A Vision of the Last Judgment”] You fall into a state, any state – the state of the thief – and so he said that because he knows he must pay the consequences if caught.9017 ¶45

And so, he doesn’t feel that he did wrong. The only thing he did wrong, in his own mind’s eye, he was caught. All that he is concerned about is, “What did I do that was wrong?” Not that he took the money; that wasn’t wrong. “What did I do that was wrong that I was caught?”9017 ¶46

And you think that is not true? That’s exactly how they think, and it’s not just the one who picks up little things in a store that is called shoplifting, that’s small compared with what takes place in businesses among trusted employees. And they wonder, after years and years of being trusted, “How did I get caught? What did I do wrong?” Not stealing and breaking the employer.9017 ¶47

These are all states of consciousness. So, you go into a state. You decide your state.9017 ¶48

But bring it within the framework of the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Whatever you would have them do unto you, well, there’s nothing wrong in giving you a hundred million dollars, is there? Well, she said, “I want ten million.” If anyone gave me ten million dollars, I wouldn’t refuse it.9017 ¶49

So, she asked within the framework of the Golden Rule. You will say, “Well, that’s greed.” I don’t think so. That’s stupid. It is all within the concepts of man. The one who will tell you that that’s greedy wishes that he had it. And so, they are checking their portfolios that are bursting with billions of dollars and telling the poor, poor people that they shouldn’t really want it – it wasn’t God’s will for them – but God’s will for us, the custodians of this wealth. So, forget it, and come down to this simple principle that “the Truth of Christ is in me.” That’s what he said in the 2nd letter to the Corinthians, the 11th chapter, the 10th verse, of Corinthians. “The Truth of Christ is in me.” Then he begins to analyze what he means by Christ. Christ is the power, the creative power of God and the wisdom of God, and although I once believed in a man called Christ, henceforth I believe so no more. I now see that I am crucified with Christ. In the very beginning, this power was crucified on humanity, and it is raising itself individually – not collectively, and when it raises itself individually, it returns to what it was prior to its descent. It was the Son of Man.9017 ¶50

And when it returns, it is enhanced unnumbered fold by means of its experience in this state called death. It overcame death. For here it dies. Everything dies in this world. And here, it’s the victorious power that could become one that has to die and still transcend the grave.9017 ¶51

So, everyone here – in the interval, do not turn from left to right; do not go after any false gods. “… Why stand we here trembling around, Calling on God for Help, and not ourselves, in whom God dwells?” [Blake, from “Jerusalem”] Why should I turn to someone else when He dwells in me? Well, find out Who He is in me. He is my own wonderful human imagination. That’s God. Now, how can I prove that? Well, set a goal for yourself. I want this, that or the other. “All things are possible to God.” “And you tell me my imagination is God?” All right, well then, how do I prove that? I bring before my mind’s eye a scene, which implies that I am the man that I would like to be, and I re-enact that scene in my imagination. That is subjectively appropriating the objective hope. I re-enact the whole thing in my imagination, and then I reap the reality of that subjective appropriation and do nothing about it. Capture that mood until life begins to really pulse, and then, while they are pulsing, you have sent it into the world. It impinges on everyone in the world, and they, whether they want to or not, are under compulsion to aid the purpose of that subjective hope, and you will become the one that you’ve assumed that you are.9017 ¶52

Do it with love. Always do it in love, and you’re doing it the right way.9017 ¶53

I’m told by Paul, the first great convert by his own experience, because he said, “When it pleased God to reveal His Son in me, I conferred not with flesh and blood.” He reveals His Son in you. Where else can He reveal him when the whole drama takes place within man? All things take place within the human imagination. “And it pleased God to reveal His Son in me.” Well then, His Son is standing before me.9017 ¶54

I’ll see him, and he is not His son; he’s my son. Then I know who He is, that I formerly worshiped. It’s not any he – I AM. That’s the story. “For no one knows who the son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the son.” So, no one ever sees God. But “the son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath made him known.” So the son appears and calls you “Father.” Then, and only then, do you know you are the Father.9017 ¶55

You do not know the Scripture. “Call no man on earth ‘father,’ for you have but one father, who is in heaven.” And where is heaven? Heaven is within.9017 ¶56

So, when you find that Father, you don’t find Him as another standing before you as someone that you call “Father.” When you find the Father, it’s the Son who reveals the Father, and the Son stands before you, calling you “Father.” And you are God the Father.9017 ¶57

And long before you have this experience, send your word on its way to bring lovely things into the world for everyone you can think of, because every one – even though they are unlovely, judged by human appearances – they are the Brothers. We are the Brothers that came down. We are the gods. We are the Elohim. Elohim is plural – gods: one made up of others. So, we are the gods that came down and assumed these limitations. And as the gods, we are brothers – everlasting brothers, expanding forever and forever by reason of this experience.9017 ¶58

So, do not be led astray. If someone wants you to go and see some holy man, run for your life. Go to some holy place? Go and take all these courses and diets? Food cannot commend you to God. You are no worse off if you do not eat, and no better off if you do. So, when this one comes into the world, having had the experience, they call him a drunkard, they call him a glutton, a leper, and a friend of publicans and sinners, because He’s in all of them. He seesnothing to condemn in the world. He sees them only in states. The whole vast drama is the falling into states.9017 ¶59

And he came to redeem them out of their states of suffering, until that moment in time when they find the Father. And when they find the Father, who had been the Father but themselves? And they go out thinking, “I will never again see my father’s face”; and that Father – built – is built in Eternity within themselves. And we go here, there and elsewhere, looking for Him, and He is exactly where He was standing before you started the search. But we go in search of Him. And one day He appears, not as another, He comes in the form of a son, and the son reveals you as God the Father. And that son is David. Let the whole vast world rise in opposition. They can never, in Eternity, disprove it. David, as told us in the 2nd Psalm, is the Son of God. “And I will tell of the decree of the Lord. He said unto me, Thou art my son. Today I have begotten thee.” And to confirm it in the 4th chapter of the book of Acts, read the story how, by the voice of the Father “and thy servant,” – and the word translated, servant is better translated, son. The footnote in the Revised Standard Version gives the alternate translation and it’s preferred, as the word, son. So, “Thy son David has said” – and then he quotes the 2nd Psalm, telling who is the author, the writer of that Psalm.9017 ¶60

But revealed Truth cannot be logically proven. It’s not truth based upon what the world would call truth. That is this level, but the Truth spoken of in Scripture is revealed Truth, and that cannot be logically proven.9017 ¶61

You accept it on faith, or you reject it. But may I tell you, even though you reject it – it may take Eternity – but you will not be lost. One day you will accept it on faith alone, and then it will happen in you, and your memory returns, and you return to the Being that you really are. And the Being that you are is the Elohim, the brotherhood of the gods, for we fell as one man, and we became fragmented in this world of unnumbered beings, but none will be lost “in all my holy mountain” – not one. I cannot conceive of one of my brothers that I have known in Eternity being lost. If you play the part of a Hitler, play the part of a Stalin, or any monster in the world, you have fallen into a state, and I must redeem you from that state. So, redeem a man from the state of loneliness, if he is lonely, he wants a companion. What’s more marvelous than that in the world? He wants a companion, or she wants a companion. We should all have.9017 ¶62

If he wants to pay rent, what’s wrong with that? He gave himself, in the beginning, a pattern. So, He gave me a pattern – a pattern against the wall, because I see something, and then I move to the right, and I see the price and the restraint involved in that state.9017 ¶63

So, I want to exercise all the talent the Father gave me. And “I and my Father are one,” as we are told in the 10th chapter of the book of John. Read it in the 10th chapter, the 30th verse, “I and my Father are one.” In the 14th chapter of John, he does say, “but my Father is greater than I.” As I said earlier, that does not mean that the Lord is inferior as to His essential Being, only as to His present office as the sent. So, when I send my Self into the world, it seems to be inferior to my Self, the Sender, but we are one, for there’s nothing but God in the world. “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord, is one.” Now, let’s enter the Silence.9017 ¶64

Power and Wisdom

Wisdom is revealed truth, which cannot be logically proven. Knowledge is science; you can prove it. You can prove the theory that you had concerning going to the moon; that can be proved. Einstein’s theories – they were theories, but in time man could devise the means to test them and either prove or disprove them. So far they’ve been proved – not completely, but they have been proved. That’s knowledge. But visions are described in Scripture as wisdom. They are revelation of divine truths. In the end, all knowledge will cease to be, but wisdom will remain – these visions that are eternal.9016 ¶1

So Paul speaks of Christ as “the power of God and the wisdom of God.”9016 ¶2

Now, what do we mean by power? Certainly, I would say, the best definition of it would be effectiveness in achieving one’s purposes. But these are the purposes of God, yet we can use power on this level to achieve a certain objective. But I am speaking, now, of the power of Christ. It’s entirely different from anything known to man, unless he has had the experience. You taste it before the end, before you awaken from this dream, you will taste of this power. And may I tell you it is startling. It’s not destructive in the sense that you blow up a city with a hydrogen bomb or many bombs. It has not a thing to do with that power.9016 ¶3

Here is a taste of it. You come into a place just like this. When I first tasted of it many years ago, I found myself moving in time – I would say, backwards in time, judged by the costumes – judged by the clothes. I would say it was a hundred and fifty years ago in this land of ours, in the east. I would say it was in the New England states, looking at the people that I saw.9016 ¶4

I was taken in spirit into this place. It was a wonderful restaurant of that day – 150 years ago. It was a Sunday afternoon; I could tell by the atmosphere. It was afternoon. I saw a table of four, two young men in their early 20’s; undoubtedly college students and then what would be their parents. Then came a lady – she was the waitress – bringing a tray of food to the table. She had already served the course of soup.9016 ¶5

There was a huge, big bay window through which I could look, and through this window I could see the grass moving. The wind was blowing. It was Fall. I could see the leaves falling; they were dropping. I could see a bird in flight.9016 ¶6

I saw other diners, and at that moment I knew that if I could arrest the activity that I felt in me, everything would stand still. I knew it! I no sooner knew it than I tried it, and I arrested not them; I arrested the activity in me – all in my head. Everything stood still. The bird flying flew not. The grass moving moved not. The leaves falling, fell not. The waitress walking walked not. The diners dining dined not. Everyone was as dead as things in the museum – as though they were made of clay. I examined them all; they were all dead. One moment before, they were all living, living beings, and everything was alive.9016 ¶7

A bird in flight, if arrested, should fall, shouldn’t it, if gravitation is a law that is absolute. If it is arrested in flight, that thing should fall. It didn’t fall; it stood still, just as I had arrested it. Leaves I could see, but they did not fall. Everything stood still. The grass stood still. The waitress stood still. Well, that’s understandable; if you stop her, she can’t go through the floor.9016 ¶8

And here are these diners, and one facing me – the young boy, about twenty-two years of age – he had the spoon almost to his mouth, and it was perfectly still. He could not move it. I looked at him; he looked like death itself!9016 ¶9

Then I released that activity within me, and everything continued in its course. The bird continued in its flight. The leaves continue to fall. The waitress continued to bring the food to the table, and he brought the spoon that was here to his mouth and completed the action. Then I knew that everything was within me; that “All that I beheld, though it appeared without, it was within – in my own wonderful human imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.” It is not taking place out there at all! That’s tasting of the power.9016 ¶10

So, he defines Christ – you read it in the 1st chapter of his 1st letter to the Corinthians, the 24th verse, “Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”9016 ¶11

Wisdom is now defined in Scripture as a child; it’s personified. We speak of wisdom – we do not think of it as a person; but may I tell you, man is everything in this world. So everything, really, can be personified.9016 ¶12

The 8th chapter of Proverbs personifies wisdom, and now Wisdom is made to speak, and these are his words:9016 ¶13

“God possessed me at the beginning of His way,9016 ¶14

The first of His acts of old.”9016 ¶15

“When he laid out the foundations of the earth, . . .9016 ¶16

I was beside him, like a little child,9016 ¶17

I was daily his delight,9016 ¶18

Rejoicing before him always,9016 ¶19

Rejoicing in his inhabited world,9016 ¶20

Delighting in the sons of men.”9016 ¶21

Now he talks to the “sons of men,” and he tells them:9016 ¶22

“He who finds me finds life9016 ¶23

And obtains favor from God;9016 ¶24

He who misses me injures himself;9016 ¶25

All who hate me love death.”9016 ¶26

When you read it you say. What is he talking about? He’s a little child; this is the “wonder child” spoken of in Isaiah – the personification of Wisdom. One day you will find the child. When you find the child, then you receive favor from God, for the child is but a symbol of His Creative Power – His Creative Wisdom. You’ll find that child!9016 ¶27

“Those who miss me injure themselves;9016 ¶28

Those who hate me…”9016 ¶29

May I tell you, the majority of the world hates Him to the extent that they have no interest in Him – none whatsoever. They do not wish to hear about Him. To them, it’s stupid. It’s folly to the Gentiles – folly to the Greeks, and certainly a stumbling block to those who look for Him in some other form.9016 ¶30

Who is the child personified in Scripture? It’s called the “infant child” that one day will be placed in your hands, and you will see him as your child. But he also is a youth, as told us in the 9th chapter of Isaiah:9016 ¶31

“To us a child is born,9016 ¶32

To us a son is given.”9016 ¶33

The son is given, for, “No man knows the Father except the Son, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”9016 ¶34

So, “No man has ever seen God. The only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.”9016 ¶35

So, unless the Son makes Him known, you will never know the Father! I’ll tell you who He is. Now, this is only a symbol, but when you meet the symbol, it’s a living, living thing as you are now, and it’s David!9016 ¶36

Robert Browning in his poem called “Saul” – Now Saul was the demented king – an insane man, and in this poem called “Saul” he has David, and David is about to tell the king of the coming of Messiah, of the coming of Christ. And standing in the presence of the king, Browning has him say:9016 ¶37

“O Saul . . .9016 ¶38

A face like my face shall receive thee; a man like unto me,9016 ¶39

Thou shalt love, and be loved by forever: a Hand like this hand9016 ¶40

Shall open the gates of new life to thee! See the Christ stand!”9016 ¶41

It takes the Christ to reveal the Father! He tells him, “Look at me, Saul, and see the Christ stand!” But Saul was demented, as we all are. He was suffering from total amnesia, and could not recognize the Son. So the Son is screaming out morning, noon and night to the Father in all, but we are sound asleep, and do not recognize the Son.9016 ¶42

One day he stands before you, and then there is no uncertainty as to this relationship – none whatsoever, and you’ll recognize your son. Memory returns, and then you realize the gift. God the Father actually – literally – became you, that you may become God! And you look at His Son – His only begotten Son, and you know he is your son, and he knows you are his father, and then you realize the gift that was given and bestowed upon you.9016 ¶43

He gave you His power, and He gave you His wisdom, and you will taste of these before you depart the world, after you have had these experiences. And when you take off this garment, you’ll be clothed in an entirely different form, but with all the identity of person, I’ll know you in Eternity. There is a radical transformation of form. Yet, I’ll know you, but your form will be entirely different. I’ll know that face raised to the nth degree of beauty and majesty – the same face, but oh, what a glorious face that was so distorted by the life you live while here.9016 ¶44

And I am not speaking of any reincarnation. May I tell you, you are not reincarnated; you are individualized, and you tend forever towards ever greater and greater individualization. You are now completely individualized. I’ll know that face, but the face is raised to the nth degree of beauty and majesty, and a strength of character that you could not believe that Eternity would be long enough to produce. That’s the Being that you are destined one day to encounter, and it’s you, and I’ll know you, but I will know you as the Risen Lord. I will know you as God Himself, and yet I’ll know you as my friend – my friend that I know and love. I’ll know you as my friend, yet I will know you as God Himself.9016 ¶45

So, he tells us in his wonderful chapter concerning Life; He is just talking, “You will not come to me. You search the Scriptures because you think in them you have Eternal Life. And it is they who bear witness to Me, yet you will not come to Me that you may have Life.”9016 ¶46

You think “in them” you find it, and people will all day long search the Scripture. They search and search, and one comes upon the scene. It’s not what they were looking for. Well, listen to the One who comes upon the scene. He is clad in a robe “dipped in blood,” and the name by which he is called is the Word of God.9016 ¶47

Are you dipped in a robe of blood? Are you not now wearing a body of flesh and blood? Is this not something you are now clad in that is “dipped in blood”? Cut yourself and see if it’s not blood. And who wears it? The Word of God. Well, who is the Word of God? Are we not told, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”? It’s God Himself!9016 ¶48

“God actually became as we are, that we may be as He is.”9016 ¶49

That is the mystery. You are now wearing a garment “dipped in blood,” and the name by which you are called is the “Word of God.” Now there is the great mystery. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt” – now the translation is “among us,” but the preposition is within, it’s not among, as you look over here. It is in us. “God can never be so far off as even to be near,” for nearness implies separation. Well then, where is He? His name forever and forever is “I AM.”9016 ¶50

I can put the body out there and look at it, but I can’t stick “I AM” out there and look at it. I am the observing Being. I can observe all the things round about me as objects, but I can’t observe the Observer! I can see myself in the objects round about me, revealing all the activity within me, but I, the Observer, can’t stick it out and look at it as another observer. So, God can never be so far off as even to be near, because nearness – no matter how near – implies separation. And He is not separated from you. He actually is your very Being. The true identity of man is God!9016 ¶51

Now, this mystery unfolds within you, and you will taste the power – a power unknown to mortal mind. You will taste of a wisdom. You will be able to interpret all the phenomena of life, for everything in the world contains within itself the capacity for some symbolic significance, and you will see something that means nothing to the mind as it walks by, but you will interpret the action. You will actually be able to interpret the dream – the vision, because it’s all the language of God.9016 ¶52

Three men walk by, and to the average person, three men walk by. They are not just three men walking by to you when it begins to unfold. So, a woman gets upon the bus, followed by a man, followed by a woman, followed by a man, and you interpret the phenomenon that is unfolding before you. That’s wisdom. Everything in the world is screaming at you and telling you what it represents in this world. But man is completely blind to it, and confuses Wisdom, which is revealed Truth, with knowledge, which is science. Now he does not disparage science – no. But in the end it will all fade as though it were never a part of the world.9016 ¶53

So here, the Power and the Wisdom – the gift that God gives to His Son: now he delights in the sons of men. Well, who does he call himself in Scripture? He speaks of himself more often than with any other title as the “Son of Man.” That’s the singular of “sons of men.” What does he mean by it? A “son of man” is that which comes out of man, as told us in the 7th chapter of the book of II Samuel.9016 ¶54

“Go and tell my servant David” – And who is David? “I have found in David, the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart who will do all my will.”9016 ¶55

Now the central figure in the Gospel speaks of Himself as the “Son of God,” but he speaks of Himself more often as the “Son of Man,” and He tells you, “I have come to do the will of Him that sent me.”9016 ¶56

“Not my will, but Thine be done.” Well, then who is that one? We are told – David was the one that He chose, and called David “a man after my own heart, who will do all my will.”9016 ¶57

And who was David? He was the son of Jesse, and “Jesse” means “Jehovah Exists.” That’s what the word means – any form of the verb “to be” – in other words, “I AM.” He is the son of “I AM.” So, in the 7th chapter of II Samuel, he turns to his prophet, “Go and tell my servant David that when his days are fulfilled and he lies down with his fathers, I will raise up his son after him who shall come forth from his body, and I will be his father, and he shall be my son.”9016 ¶58

Something comes out of man. It is you – your own identity – not another. But what comes out? For all the identity of the person that you are, there’s going to be a radical, radical transformation of form. It’s not the same form. It’s not the face, it’s not the things that you have here – no – an entirely different being, but still the same identity, but a form that is altogether different. It is a form that is Power. It’s infinite power, and you do not have to exercise it in the sense of doing this or doing that.9016 ¶59

This is what I mean by it. If clothed in that body, you found yourself in hell, instantly hell would be transformed into Heaven without your raising one finger to transform it. I know this from experience. The year was 1946 when I tasted of the Wisdom of God and the Power of God.9016 ¶60

I was on a ship coming through the Caribbean Sea from the Port of Spain, Trinidad, to Mobile, Alabama. We were seven days at sea. It was a freighter bringing boxite into the ovens in Alabama. They only carried twelve passengers. I had retired early. I had my wife and my little girl. Now the thing to do aboard a little ship like that was simply to enjoy the three meals, the sea breezes and then sleep. So, I turned in quite early, and in the wee hours of the morning I felt like a fiery being, being pulled out of my skull in the form of a serpent, like a spiral motion.9016 ¶61

Here I am clothed, entirely different. I am fire and air! My body is simply one living, living body, something unlike anything I had ever experienced, and as far as my eye could see was a huge sea of human imperfections, the blind, the lame, the halt, the withered – everything, all imperfect. I glided by in this body of light. I did not need the sun; I did not need the moon, the stars – anything to illuminate my world. I was luminous enough. As I glided, I simply illuminated the area that I wanted to see. As I came by these, I knew they were waiting to see me – waiting for me. As I glided by, everyone was transformed into the Perfection that I felt myself to be. I was “made perfect,” and as I walked by, everyone had to be perfect in my presence. Eyes that were missing came out of nowhere and filled the empty sockets; the hands that were missing filled the empty sockets. Those who could not walk, they leaped for joy.9016 ¶62

Everything was made perfect, and this heavenly chorus accompanied me and called me by my earthly name, Neville. They said, “Neville is risen,” when they first came out. And then from then, that wonderful choral group sang my praises and only repeated the words, “Neville is risen.” I can’t describe how this heavenly chorus could take only those three words and use them in such a dramatic, wonderful way without changing the words. The music was fantastic, and these voices formed the music. I didn’t hear instruments; I only heard the voices, and just the words, “Neville is risen.” Well, they could take it and blend it into such beauty that at the very end of the journey when the very last one was made perfect, this heavenly chorus sang out, “It is finished.”9016 ¶63

And then I felt myself actually come down into this garment, and this was like a straitjacket. This was something so cramping – so completely cramping – that no straitjacket in this world could be more confining than this body was when I came down into it.9016 ¶64

So, I tasted of the Wisdom of God and the Power of God! I didn’t have to do a thing to transform these people. My very presence transformed them. So, I know the Kingdom of Heaven is a body, and clothed in this Body, wherever you go is Heaven. As Milton said: “If I make my bed in hell, Thou art there; make it in heaven, Thou art there. If I take my wings and fly” – no matter where I fly – and he puts the words into the mouth of Satan – “it is hell, for I myself am hell.”9016 ¶65

If I am hell, no matter where I go – put me into Heaven, it becomes hell. It’s confusion.9016 ¶66

Haven’t you met people that, no matter where they go, they disturb the entire evening, the whole day? Bring them in – it’s like a plague.9016 ¶67

A friend of mine in New York City – his name was Milo. I loved the fun of him. Take him to Carnegie Hall and put Milo at the end of the aisle standing in the back, and have Milo walk down that aisle toward, say, the 3rd or 4th row; he bumped into everyone in this world. He could no more walk down an aisle and go without hitting someone. He struck this one, struck that one, struck the other one.9016 ¶68

One night at home he took my hand to say good-bye, opened the wrong door and went right into the closet. Milo could no more stop that – he just simply confused everything. If he came home and dined – well, I had to watch everything at the table. He would use everything that was wrong, and yet he was a delightful person, but Milo was so completely confused – that was Milo’s life.9016 ¶69

Well now, this is Harmony beyond measure – the Body that is yours when you wake to it! And wherever you are, it’s perfect. If you stood in the Petrified Forest, the whole vast forest would burst into foliage. If you went through the desert, it would blossom like the rose. Things long dead would simply become alive because you are alive, for you are the Resurrection then. You are the God of the Living, not the dead, and so all things that seemingly are dead become alive in your presence. This is the Power and the Wisdom of which I speak, and I am not theorizing, I am not speculating. I have tasted of the Power.9016 ¶70

By taste I mean I have experienced the Power and the Wisdom of God. And when this little garment comes off for the last time, in the not-distant future, I am clothed in that Body forever. And the day will come; you will be clothed in a similar body. He gives it a body as He has chosen.9016 ¶71

So, let no one frighten you, telling you that you’ve got to earn the Kingdom of Heaven. You do not earn it! It is the consequence, not the condition, of His choice. “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.”9016 ¶72

So, when people tell you, you’ve got to do this and do that and do the other in order to earn it, forget it. Then it’s not a gift if you earn it. It’s something that is due you, like your wages. Don’t tell me at the end of the week – if I work by the week or by the month and you pay me what I’ve earned that you gave me something.9016 ¶73

I recall once my publisher, at the end of six months when he gave me a very big check, his wife said, “You see how much I have given you?”9016 ¶74

I said, “You haven’t given me anything. You have only now put into my hands what you’ve been using without interest for the last six months. If I come in here every day and say, ‘What book did you sell today?’ and you paid me that day, I didn’t do that. You waited six months in the confidence that you would give me the accumulated monies. So at the end of six months, you used that money – you put it in the bank; you didn’t put it in the vault. You kept that money in the bank so that you did not have to borrow from the bank to run your business. It was my money, and because it accumulated, and it was a good, big check; you now feel poor that you gave me so much. Just get that idea off your mind. You didn’t give me one red penny; you just simply took what was mine that you accumulated and used without interest, and then put it into my hand.” Well, she never repeated that again!9016 ¶75

So, I tell you, this is a gift! You don’t earn the Kingdom. It is God’s good pleasure to give it to you, and He has already given it to you, but the gift has not yet been realized. It is still to be realized in experience. So, I am sharing with you the experience. It comes suddenly, without warning, and then you taste of it. You tell it to the friends. Those who are not yet called to receive it will laugh at you, and say it’s a hallucination. All right, let them be. They will, one day, get it. Even though today they laugh at you, one day they will get it. They will all get it.9016 ¶76

But He calls us one-by-one, as told us in the 27th chapter of the book of Isaiah: “I will call you one by one, O people of Israel.” Well, who are the “people of Israel”? Let me quote you, now, the 8th verse, of the 32nd chapter of Deuteronomy: “He has put bounds to the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.” Not one child can be born in this world, but what it is a garment that a Son of God wears!9016 ¶77

But He’s going to call His sons one-by-one, all in good time, each in his own order, and when He calls you, how does He call you? He sends “a famine upon the land.” It’s “not a famine for bread, not a hunger for bread nor a thirst for water, but for the hearing of the Word of God.”9016 ¶78

When not a thing in this world can satisfy you but an experience of God, the hunger is on you. Yes, the fields may be bursting with wheat, and all the food in the world at your disposal and all the money to buy it, but if the hunger is for the Word of God, not a thing can satisfy you but an experience of God. That’s when He calls you. He sends “a famine upon the land – not a hunger for bread or a thirst for water, but for the hearing of the Word of God.”9016 ¶79

When that comes upon you, I don’t care what the world will say; they can’t turn you away from that experience because not a thing can satisfy you. There is not one temptation in the world – offer you all the things in the world, it can’t satisfy you. Offer you tonight the Presidency, a dictatorship of the world; it could not satisfy you. You wouldn’t want it. You want to experience God. You don’t want it as hearsay; you want it from something that actually takes place within you that you know from experience that God is; and you will never know Him unless His Son reveals Him. For, when His Son comes into your presence, then you know Who-God-Is. And in knowing Who-God-Is, you know Who-You-Are. Well, I’m telling you, you are God!9016 ¶80

You are actually the only God, because in the end, there can be nothing but God. There is no room for another in the Universe. You brought this wonderful world into existence as a theater to manifest His power and His wisdom and His love for His sons, because He is going to give Himself to His sons – not loan Himself. He actually becomes His sons, that His sons may become the Father! That’s the mystery.9016 ¶81

So, this Power – and there are in this audience tonight those who have tasted of the Power; there are those who have tasted, I hope, of the Wisdom, where you know you do nothing to make it so. It just is so because you are perfect. Therefore, you are told: “Be ye perfect, as your Father in Heaven is perfect.” When that Perfection is yours, everything in the world is perfect.9016 ¶82

No matter what happens to you and to those you love, you still cannot for one moment entertain the thought that God is cruel, even though you see what appears to be a horrible thing taking place in your most intimate world. Yet, you still maintain your conviction that God is Love. For, when you experience God as Infinite Love, not a thing in the world can turn you from that conviction. You know God is Love – that’s all there is to it, and you stand in the presence of the Ancient of Days, and you can’t think of anything but love. And the Ancient of Days embraces you, and you fuse and become one body. You are the Ancient of Days. And then you are sent, and you do the job that you are sent to do. Then, as you are sent, you are the Word. “And His name shall be called the Word of God.”9016 ¶83

And you are told, “My word that goes forth from my mouth shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” It cannot come back void, so you will return to the Father, having accomplished the work that He gave you to do. And at that return, you are God Himself! You are the Father!9016 ¶84

I’m not here to flatter you. I’m not here to change what you are doing now. If you feel that you have not completed the world of Caesar and you want something better in the world of Caesar – a bigger home or more homes and more money, more fame, more recognition – all right. If that’s your hunger, may I tell you, you’re entitled to it, and you can get it. You can get it by simply assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, and remaining faithful to that assumption. And if you remain faithful to that assumption, it will become a fact. He puts no limit on the power of belief – none whatsoever.9016 ¶85

“Whatsoever you desire, believe that you have received it, and you will.” That is the promise made in the 11th chapter of the book of Mark.9016 ¶86

It doesn’t say if it’s good for you or it is wrong, if you desire it. There is no restriction upon the limit – upon the limit of belief – none. So, if you know what you want, and you dare assume that you have it, and live as though you have it, and live in the end – viewing the world from the end instead of thinking of the end, because God in becoming man does not think of man; He thinks from man. That’s the secret.9016 ¶87

So, “Be ye imitators of God as dear children.” So, God in becoming me isn’t thinking of Neville; He is Neville, and He’s thinking from Neville. So, if I would imitate Him, I cannot think of what I want. I must think from it.9016 ¶88

If I want to be this, that or the other, I assume the feeling of my wish fulfilled, and then think from it. That’s the secret. And you’ll become it. But I’m telling you, I cannot persuade you to want an experience of God. It comes from your own Father in the depths of your own Being. And when you really are ripe for that experience, He will send the hunger. And not a thing in this world can divert you but an experience of God. You’ve got to have it! And you may go through a thousand and one blind alleys, but you’re going to have it. And you’ll come to the end, and you will realize that the Jewish-Christian faith is the one solid rock in this world.9016 ¶89

There is no Christianity without Judaism, and Judaism without Christianity would be a tree without flowers, without fruit. Judaism is the tree, Christianity is its fulfillment, and a tree must fulfill its purpose – if it’s an apple tree, bear apples. And so, Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism, and you can’t divorce them. That is the solid foundation.9016 ¶90

All these others come with their little strange concepts of life, taking you to some holy place in the country and changing your physical diets and all these things to earn the Kingdom. You don’t earn it that way. You hear the story, and then you react. You either believe it, or you don’t believe it.9016 ¶91

So, Paul said he spent the last years of his life teaching Christ “from the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms, and some believed what they heard, while others disbelieved.” There was no New Testament; he was only telling his own experiences based upon the Law and the Prophets and the Psalms. So he reinterpreted the old in the light of his own experience, and some believed it and others disbelieved it.9016 ¶92

So, one day the tree will bloom, and you will know how true the Christian faith is. But it could not be unless there was first the great story of Judaism, for Judaism is the foundation stone; Christianity is the fruit – its fulfillment. So, when you hear one little snide remark about the Jew or the Christian, don’t react. They don’t know what they are doing. Leave them alone. There could not be one without the other.9016 ¶93

As the late Bishop Pike said when asked if he was a Jew – some person undoubtedly disliked what he said from the pulpit with the cross behind him, and he said, “Yes, I am a Jew. I am a Jew because I am a Christian. I could be a Jew and not be a Christian, but I cannot be a Christian and not be a Jew.” He said, “I can be an apple tree and not bear an apple, but I can’t have an apple and deny the apple tree.”9016 ¶94

Now let us go into the silence.9016 ¶95

All Powerful Human Word

Now we will start with a story that happened this past week. A very dear friend of mine that I persuaded to do this work in San Francisco – you know him, Freedom Barry. He now lives in Cambria. That is halfway between here and San Francisco. He has one consuming passion, and that’s music. He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, but he felt that he was not equal to the concert field. It is highly competitive, and he really felt that he was not quite of that timber. He was born and raised in poverty, extreme poverty. He was an orphan when he was simply a little child, a little baby. Well, he came west and got a job, and when he came to my meetings, after about two years I met him. I rather liked him, and I asked him if he would like to do what I am doing, and he said, “Yes, I would, but I am not qualified.” I said, “You only answered correctly. If you felt you were qualified, you’d be no earthly good.” Today, I would say I am not qualified. If you asked me for my intellectual background, I couldn’t qualify, ask me for any background, I couldn’t qualify. I once met Damrosch in New York City at the Bohemian Club. At the Harvard Club they met once a month. And when I was introduced to him by this most outgoing person, he asked me what was my background. Was it Germanic as far as my teaching? Was it Germanic, was it French, was it English? I said, “No, it all came by revelation”; and the old man turned his back on me as though he was talking to the scum of the earth! Here was a social gathering. He judged you by your background, based upon whether you were trained in the Germanic school, the French school, the English school, and he named it. Well, I could not have answered in the affirmative that question; so he turned his back. So, I said to Freedom, “You do not need any background. You trust me. I like you. I think you are honest, and you will not deceive anyone. You will go north and you will teach.” So he went north and he has been teaching successfully.9014 ¶1

He bought himself a home in Cambria, as I said, midway between here and San Francisco. It’s a modest home, but at least it’s his home. It’s all clear. But there is one consuming passion that he has: it’s music. He loves music, and he had this lovely grand piano, but something was needed. He had to have it, not repaired, but something must be done, and there was a moderate charge of $400 to do what he thought should be done, but they could only do it if he sent it back to the factory. It was sent to the factory. They would not ship it back to him unless he first came down and tested it and tried it out. Everything ought to be just right as he thought it to be right. So he came down, played on it, and he accepted it. Then they gave him a date of delivery. So he waited at home, but there was no piano. The next day, no piano. Then he called them, and they said, “Well, we were waiting for a full load; but now there is a full load, and so you will get your piano Wednesday” – of last week, not this week, Wednesday of last week. He waited in all day and there was no piano; so then when he called, they said strangely enough, “Our driver and the truck and its contents have disappeared and we cannot locate him. We cannot locate the truck or the contents.” The next day when he called, there was no trace of the driver. So, in desperation, he called me. He said, “You know, I teach this Law, but, Neville, every penny that I have is really locked up in my piano. I have my home, but I have no income at the moment, and my one outgoing thing is simply to play. And it’s only insured for $2,000, and I could not replace it for $4,000. But long before I could get the $2,000, if ever, here I am strapped; and I am calling you to help. You are the only one to whom I can turn.” I said, “Thank you for the confidence”; and then that was it.9014 ¶2

Right after I hung up, I heard him play that piano. I could put my hands upon his shoulder, and I could feel Freedom. I could feel the piano, and I heard this lovely music. Then that night between 8:00 and 10:00 there is a lovely program that comes on KFAC, and it’s usually piano music, but it is lovely music all through the day, 24 hours a day. So any time of the day I can turn that on, which is really turned on all day anyway. And I heard this glorious concerto, and I imagined Freedom was playing it, and I simply put my hands upon him and thanked him for the joy he gave me in the playing of this concerto, and I could feel the piano. Yesterday morning at 11:00 o’clock he called. I was not available but my wife answered. He said, “I would have called you at 4:30 this morning when the piano was delivered, but I thought it unwise to disturb you at that hour in the morning, at 4:30; but now I am going to call you, because you must be up.” He said, “I am going to give you all the details eventually, I can’t do it now over the phone. It was a strange, strange thing.” He did say this much: the driver was arrested in San Luis Obispo. He refused to give anything concerning the whereabouts of the truck and its contents.9014 ¶3

Only this past week I read in the paper that our banks lose from men who hold up the banks, oh, maybe seven or eight million dollars a week, but the embezzlement that goes on within the banks from trusted employees runs into tens of millions; and then this enormous hundreds of millions between our ports, airports and warehouses in lost cargo, all stolen. A man takes off, and everything disappears, the truck and its contents; and it runs into hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars a year. But I don’t care what I read in the paper. I am remaining faithful to Principle. There is one infallible statement concerning the unforgivable sin. The unforgivable sin in the Bible is the sin against the Holy Spirit. Every sin in the world is forgiven but the sin against the Holy Spirit. What is that unforgivable sin? Doubt! He who created the universe and sustains it, and you doubt His power to do anything in this world? That is the one unforgivable sin. Well, having reached the end of God’s plan for all of us, I will not doubt. I did not ask Freedom anything beyond his request. He wanted his piano, and all that I did – I simply heard him play it. I put my hands, my mental hands, my imaginary hands on his shoulder and thanked him for the joy I got from hearing him play it. And then when I turned on KFAC between 8:00 and l0:00 and heard this delightful piano concerto, I assumed it was Freedom playing it; and I so enjoyed the master who played it that I thanked him for the joy of having heard it, and then I dropped it. Now I am waiting for the details, but I do not really concern myself with how it happened. In spite of the hundreds of millions of dollars that are lost every year and never recovered, that did not faze me for one moment. He had his piano back, that is all that mattered, and so I simply lost myself in that act, and that was it.9014 ¶4

We forget what we do. A lady who is here tonight, she has forgotten. About two or three months ago she said to me, “Look how fat I am getting – bursting out of my clothes!” I said, “You aren’t too fat at all.” Then she said, “I want to be thin.” I said, “Well, you are thin. You are as thin as you want to be or even thinner.” And she left. She returned tonight, and she said, “Look, I can’t stand it – how thin I am!” I said, “Do you recall that two months ago, or maybe three months ago, you said to me how fat you are? I couldn’t see it, but to you it was fat, and you despised yourself for the fatness.” And these are the words of Blake: “Oh, what have I said, what have I done? Oh, all-powerful human words!” “All-powerful human words,” yes, because man is God! God’s Word cannot return unto Him void. It must accomplish that which He sent it to accomplish. It must actually fulfil its purpose. Well, God is man! And man in his idle moments makes all kinds of statements. Then he reaps it and he doesn’t recognize his own harvest. So she comes back and she’s thin. Yes, she is thin, obviously very thin. For a small, little lady, it is quite a loss of weight. You can do it with anything in this world.9014 ¶5

Now what is the statement concerning Moses? “Show me Thy glory,” and the Lord said to him, “I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by, then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.” That is in the 33rd chapter of the book of Exodus. You will read it in the 18th through the 25th verses; and you ask, “What on earth does it mean?” Well, if you know the meaning of the word Moses, which means, “to be born,” there is something that is planted in the rock, in the cleft of the rock, that is to be born. When that is born, then God has brought His purpose to a climax. From then on, and this is a strange thing to tell you, but I mean every word of it, you do not go forward from that moment on, you go backward! You go all the way back to the Source. He brought you towards the climax, and then you only see the back now until you go all the way back; and when you come all the way back, you see the face, the Glory of God. As we are told in the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians, the 4th chapter . . I think it’s the 6th verse, to “behold the Glory of God in the face of Christ.” You will never know your face until you see it in your Son’s face.9014 ¶6

So, in that poem of Browning called “Saul” – Now Saul in Scripture was demented. He was the choice of humanity, the king of Israel; and he was mentally deficient. He wanted this lad to play on the harp to soothe his spirit, and Browning, by experience, wrote this beautiful poem, and Browning now calls it “Saul.” It is based upon the 17th chapter of I Samuel. And David stands before Saul, telling him of the coming of Messiah, and these are Browning’s words. And David said: “O, Saul…A Face like my face shall receive thee, and a Man like unto me Thou shalt love, and be loved by, forever. A Hand like this hand Shall throw open the doors of new life to thee! See the Christ stand!” David stands before him. Now Saul’s name was changed to Paul. Saul was of the tribe of Benjamin in the Old Testament, of Abraham’s descent. Paul of the New Testament was first called Saul; and when he confronted the Risen Lord, his name was changed to Paul, and he tells you. So, the poem is called “Saul.” And here, standing before the demented humanity who does not recognize his own offspring, like amnesia: – “A Face like my face shall receive thee; a Man like unto me Thou shalt love, and be loved by, forever. A Hand like this hand Shall throw open the gates of new life to thee! See the Christ stand!” Here is David, the Christ. He is the Christ, the Anointed of the Lord. So, we speak in Scripture of “the Lord and His Christ”, His son David, who reveals him as the Lord.9014 ¶7

So Moses cannot see the face until now he moves backward, see the back. You shall not see the face. So when divine history comes to its climax in what is known in Scripture as the Resurrection, then come these four majestic acts, which are culminating in the descent of the Holy Spirit in bodily form as a dove.9014 ¶8

Now, the Gospels all begin the message of Jesus with the descent of the Holy Spirit at baptism. They all begin it, because “the last shall be first.” That is the end. That’s the climax. So they all begin it. In the earliest Gospel, which is Mark, he begins it with the story of the baptism when the dove descends upon Jesus. John, the most profound and the most mystical – he begins it with this descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus. We come now to Luke, and then Luke makes the statement concerning the descent of the Holy Spirit in bodily form as a dove. Then he goes right in and he has Jesus declare that he is the fulfillment of that which was announced in Isaiah 61: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, for He has anointed me to preach good news, glad tidings to the afflicted, to the poor, and to proclaim liberty to those who are captive, and to open the prison doors of all that are bound.” Here is one. He proclaims that he is the fulfillment of that announcement in the 61st chapter of Isaiah.9014 ¶9

Now he goes back. Read the story, and all the events, now, go back. Why? As he disappears from life, he is buried in us! Now he tells us: “I have told you all these things before they take place, that when they do take place you may believe. And now your hearts are troubled because I said unto you, in a little while I will leave you. Again, in a little while I will return. And so your hearts are troubled. But I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away, for unless I go away, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth cannot come, but if I go away, I will send him to you, and he will lead you into all knowledge and bring to your remembrance all that I have told you.” Who, then, is this Holy Spirit?9014 ¶10

He is called the Spirit of Truth; and Jesus said, “I AM the truth.” It is the Spirit of the Lord Jesus who comes into man when the visible Lord disappears from man. He disappears completely. He is the teacher, and he disappears. He tells you what happened in him when he disappears. Where can he go, but back to the Father? There is no other place to go but to the Father! He said, “I came out from the Father, and I came into the world. Again I AM leaving the world, and I AM returning to the Father.” Well, where is the Father? The Father is in you!9014 ¶11

Now, He is the Spirit in man. Now, the Spirit of Truth called the Holy Spirit, against which you must not sin – not doubt its power to do anything in this world, “He will bring to your remembrance all the things that I have told you.” Therefore, who is the Spirit of Truth, other than the Remembrancer? He remembers. The whole thing is done! That’s why I can say boldly: Salvation is accomplished! Redemption is perfect. No one can fail, because the Spirit – the Remembrancer, is now buried in man, and He can’t take you forward to God the Father. He takes you backward! So, He rises at a point called the Awakening in you. The moment He awakens in you, you are “born from above.” They are the two sides of the same coin. Then He takes you backward. And when He gets all the way back, now you will see the “face of God in the face of Christ” – His son David. David is the Anointed of the Lord, and you will know what you look like by looking right into the face of your Son called David. And David is Christ!9014 ¶12

You are the Father, but you came out into the world. Now he makes the statement: “I and my Father are one.” “He who sees me sees Him who sent me.” He has never left me. Yet he makes this statement, which has confused all the priesthoods of the world: “My Father is greater than I.” You read that in the 14th chapter of the book of John. In the 10th chapter of the book of John he makes the statement! “I and my Father are one.” Now he makes the statements “My Father is greater than I.” The Lord is not inferior as to His Essential Being, but as to His office as the sent.9014 ¶13

He and the Sender are one, but when the Sender sends Himself into the world to tell the story of Redemption, the position of the sent is less than the Sender. Yet, they are one! So here, the Lord Jesus Christ is not inferior as to his own Essential Being, but as to his office as the sent in this world, so he makes the statement: “He who sees me sees Him who sent me.” “I and my Father are one.” Yet in this statement he shows you the difference between playing the part, the office of the sent as against that of the Sender, and yet the Sender and the sent are one, because “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” They aren’t two, but they are different offices that the One fulfils. So in the office of the sent he is less, he seems to be less, but he is not truly, in his Essential Being, less than God the Father. So, “I came out from the Father, and I came into the world; again I AM leaving the world and I AM going unto the Father.” “And now your hearts are sad because I’ve told you this, but I tell you it is expedient, and it is to your advantage that I go away, for unless I go away, the Holy Spirit cannot come; but if I go away, I will send him.” Now, he becomes the Sender, and he sends – it’s still Himself, but this time it’s called by a different name, he sends Himself!9014 ¶14

And you may know Him as John, you may know Him as Mary; but it is still the same Sender. Now you know Him as Neville, the same Being that was sent; and while I AM in the world as the sent; I play the inferior office to the Sender; but before I was sent, I was incorporated into the body of the Sender, and forever I AM one with Him, for “He who is united with the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.” But in the world where I am now sent I am subject to all the weaknesses and the limitations of the sent and must subject myself to all the weaknesses of humanity.9014 ¶15

But on the dissolution of this little garment, I am not, then, restored to life; I AM one with the Father – one with the Sender. Those who have not yet experienced what I am talking about will be restored to life in a world just like this, in a body that is new, gloriously new, unaccountably new, in a world terrestrial just like this, to continue their journey until they reach the climax which is Resurrection, for you are buried in the cleft of a rock. You are that Moses – something to be born. So, “in the cleft of the rock I will put you, and I will cover your face with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.” It cannot be seen until my Son reveals it; and my “Son” is David! No one will know the face that he truly wears until he sees it reflected in his Son David, for David is the image of the Invisible God. David is the reflection of God and bears the exact image of the Invisible God. You are the Invisible God!9014 ¶16

So here, this is what I mean by “the most profound truth,” and yet the most practical application of it: do not think for one moment, even though you are innocent of what you are saying, that it is an idle word. Because why? You are God, and God’s words cannot return unto Him empty. They must accomplish that which he purposed and “prosper in the thing for which he sent it.” So, even though you are ignorant of the Law, you are the operant power, operating that Law of which you may be totally unaware, but there’s no excuse. You will still reap the results, as my friend reaped the results of the loss of weight, which she could ill afford.9014 ¶17

And my friend Freedom, distracted as he is – well, what is a friend in this world for if you can’t call to him and ask him and stretch out your hand for help when that is necessary? So Freedom teaches this Law, and may I tell you, he teaches it beautifully. And he has been tremendously successful in helping unnumbered people in the use of this Law, but then came a test for Freedom, for his one consuming passion is music. He loves music. Give him music, and you’ve given him the whole day, and he can sit in his little place in Cambria and play that piano all day long and forget meals, he is so completely carried away with music – he just loves it so. But now the one thing to express it is gone, and here this very week comes the story in the L.A. Times of the hundreds of millions of dollars that we lose every year through theft between the wharves of our country, the airports of our country and the interior areas where merchandise is placed upon vans for delivery. And there is a syndicate of stealing, but it runs into unnumbered millions. Well, when you read that, even though you teach it and it’s so near and you cannot replace it. The average person who has money will say, “All right, I am insured, I am under-insured for $2,000, but I will go out and buy another.” Well, he could not go out and buy another; he didn’t have the money. He was born a very, very poor boy, and Freedom has never really made money an object in life. He has never, really. He loves beauty. He loves music. He loves all the lovely things in life, and he enjoys them, but he has never really made money a goal in life. So, he could not go out and replace the $4,000 instrument.9014 ¶18

But I heard it clearly with the aid of KFAC, and I heard this beautiful concerto; and I simply used my imagination to see him. I could see him seated there, playing this lovely, lovely piece, and then put my hands upon his shoulders and thanked him for the joy I got out of having heard him, and then felt the solid, solid loveliness of his piano. And he called yesterday morning at 11:00. Now he is going to give me a detailed account as to how. The man was found and at least the piano. Whatever contents the truck held, I do not know, but I am not really interested in that.9014 ¶19

I go to the end, and as far as the man goes, he too is God, although he played the part in this little incident of the thief. He may be working for a syndicate. I am not concerned. Still, behind that mask of the thief, he is my brother. That one who played the part of the thief is my brother. There’s nothing but Brotherhood in this world! “Go, tell my brothers that I AM ascending unto their Father and to my Father, unto their God and my God.” So we are all brothers behind these masks. We are One. There’s only God.9014 ¶20

So, if there is in this world today, because of imagining and the misuse of imagining, these horrible things in the world, may I tell you, God turns them all, like the great artist will take discords and turn these dissonances eventually into beautiful harmonies? He will take every discord in the world, like stealing or murder – everything in the world and resolve it, because He is the Great Artist. And in us, everything is forgiven. The one who played that part tonight, or the one who stole that truck and the contents to embarrass my friend, who has no money to replace his great love, suppose that one in the physical sense was my brother? Do you know what I would say? “Set him free.” I wouldn’t care what he did. I so love my brothers that if they were caught in any act – I don’t care what it was – if it was a violent act, I would ask the judge to set him free. That’s what I would do, and I would mean it because he is my brother. Well, behind the mask he is my brother. Every being in the world is my brother; and all my brothers together form God. They all form the Elohim (a plural word) one made up of others. This is God!9014 ¶21

So, we are here to learn a lesson. One of the great lessons is repentance: how to change my attitude towards a seeming fixed, unalterable state. It’s unalterable, and yet I want what that, if it could be changed, would produce. Now, learn to change it! Ignore it completely, and go to the end where it has been changed. So he took the piano, maybe he sold it. Maybe he burned it, but I am going to hear him play the most glorious instrument and so enjoy it. So, I ignore the facts of life – completely ignore the facts, and go in my imagination to the end as I want it to be and there I will see it. I tell you, this is profoundly spiritual and so directly practical!9014 ¶22

So, he comes into the world and tells a story that the world does not understand, because he has reached the climax of God’s plan of salvation, and having reached the climax, he tells you he must go. He must disappear as a teacher. But where could he go, save to the Father? And where is the Father, but in you? Now he’s going to send the Spirit of Truth. But he says, “I AM the Truth”, therefore who is he going to send but himself? But when he comes now he is going to be wearing a different name. He will bear a different name. He is one with the Father in control of The Whole, but he will now send himself bearing a different name to continue the teaching, and tell the whole vast world of God’s plan of redemption. There’s only God!9014 ¶23

It was God Himself who came down into the world of humanity and buried Himself in man, and only God can be redeemed, and God planned the process of redemption “before that the world was.” This is not an after-thought. This is not emergency thinking. This was “before that the world was.” This is how it’s going to be. You are going to go straight through to the end until you reach the climax. The climax is Resurrection from that little cleft in the rock, and you come out, and then you are going to go back.9014 ¶24

So, the Evangelists, the four of them, they begin the story of the ministry of Jesus with the final act, which is baptism when the dove descends upon him in bodily form as the symbol of the Holy Spirit. And they all begin it that way, and then they go back.9014 ¶25

John being the most profound, he goes back to the grave and he tells it in symbolism, and all the signs are really – all the signs that he uses in that wonderful picture of the grave are all .- well, signs. They are all figures, but the things that they signify are literal. So, he tells the story of the birth by using the sign of a napkin, which means the afterbirth, the placenta. He tells you what took place in that concrete state called the tomb: that when you found that little napkin, then a birth took place. Well, this was a different kind of a birth; this was the birth from God. God was born in this state. So he begins it with the very first act, for there are four “mighty acts,” and the first act is the Resurrection. A few moments later it’s followed by the “birth from above”, John ends it with that, but he begins it with the descent of the dove.9014 ¶26

So the whole thing is showing you, it’s going to be backwards now. So, we bring it to its climax, and then divine history is over, and now the great Spirit of God, called the Holy Spirit, takes us backward, not forward, but backward to where? Backward to the Source, which is your Self, who is God the Father. It takes you all the way back; and when you go back, only one thing in the world can convince you that you are God the Father – when you see your glory reflected in the face of Christ. And Christ is David! That’s the story.9014 ¶27

Now you dwell upon it tonight, you who have recorded it. Play it over and over and over. I am not making any prophetic statement concerning when I will depart. Personally I cannot believe it can be too long, but I have no day, no month, no year; I have no – because no one knows when he will take off this garment, only when I have finished doing what I am supposed to do. I am supposed to tell it over and over and over, because in my case it has been finished.9014 ¶28

It came to its climax with the descent of the dove upon me and it remained there, and it’s still there, the symbol of the Holy Spirit, clothing Itself with me to tell it, for He has all the knowledge – not the knowledge of how to go to the moon, but the true knowledge of the mystery of God. He’s not concerned about all the things of earth; He is only concerned about God’s purpose and God’s plan. And so, He will reveal to me, as He has, all the things concerning His Word in Scripture; and He reveals it by allowing me to experience it, for He came to me seemingly as someone unknown. And then, in some strange, mysterious way, He allowed me to experience Who He is, in a first-person, present-tense, singular experience.9014 ¶29

So, the whole story is my Self, going back towards it all, for it was in the beginning this way, but you come forward to the climax. Then it stops. Time stops, and then you move backwards to the Source, and there you are God the Father! And on the way back you tell it while you still wear a garment that is in contact with garments in this world, because when you shed this garment you’ve lost the contact.9014 ¶30

Because I will not be in contact, for my garment tomorrow is that Garment that is perfect. Wherever I AM, everything is perfect. There’s no reason for any argument, for that Body that you will wear in the Resurrection is a perfect body. And nothing is dead in your world; nothing can be imperfect in your world. Everything is perfect wherever you are. That is the Resurrection Body, and that is spoken of in Scripture as the “Kingdom of Heaven.” So, the Kingdom of Heaven is not a place, it’s not a realm; it is a body! So, wherever you are, clothed in that Resurrected Body, everything is perfect.9014 ¶31

But those who die before the Resurrection here – and all will be eventually resurrected, they are clothed in a similar body to the one that they have discarded, only that body is young, unaccountably new, in a world terrestrial just like this, and they continue their journey.9014 ¶32

I do hope you will not forget, for the one grand sin against it is to doubt the power of this Rememberer. For when He comes into your life, He is the Rememberer. He remembers all that God has accomplished. So then, when he actually remembers all that God has accomplished in you, He takes you back, and you are the God who accomplished it. The whole thing re-enacts itself in you because of His Indwelling Presence. That’s the story.9014 ¶33

No Other Foundation

In Paul’s 1st letter to the Corinthians he said: “No other foundation can anyone lay then that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” And in his 2nd letter he asked: “Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?” Now I ask you: who is this Jesus Christ who is in you? He is your own wonderful human imagination - the foundation stone of your world! Your dreams create your world, and the dreamer dreaming those dreams is your human imagination scripture calls Jesus Christ. You may think of Jesus as someone other than yourself, someone separate and apart from you, but I tell you, Jesus Christ is in you as your wonderful human imagination. He is the dreamer, the foundation of your day as well as your night dreams. You may not be able to write a letter, paint a picture, or carry a tune, but you can dream because Jesus Christ is in you.9013 ¶1

Now let me take you into the greatest story ever told man. It is the story of the Lord Jehovah, the being you really are. The Bible is your autobiography. You dictated it, recorded it, then came into the world to fulfill it - and you will! People are forever looking for the coming of Christ, but he cannot come from without, for Jesus Christ is already within! He comes when the dreamer in you awakens and the dream comes to its end. As the dreamer awakens, you awaken by a series of events which were predetermined before the world was. Let man speculate as to the age of the earth, the moon, and all the things round about him. That’s perfectly all right; it’s part of the dream, too. But when your individual dream comes to its end you - its dreamer - will find yourself awakening within your skull, the skull where Jesus was buried. You will come out of that skull, fulfilling Peter’s words: “You are born again through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”9013 ¶2

Now, no one here thinks he is dead. We think those who depart this scene are dead, while we are very much alive; but I tell you: those who appear to be dead are no more dead than an actor who leaves the stage. Rather, they are restored to life in a world just like this, to continue their dream just as you and I continue it here. They have a body just like the one they left behind, only young - about twenty, where they can continue their dream until the dreamer in them awakes by a series of events which take place in them.9013 ¶3

The series begins with a peculiar awakening within yourself to discover you are in your skull, the skull where you were entombed. Then you come out of that sepulcher to find the symbolism described in scripture surrounding you. You do not bring forth a child; the child you find merely symbolizes your birth, for you are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, to discover that you are the dreamer who - having foretold exactly what would happen, in symbolism - awoke from the dream of life.9013 ¶4

Those who are not awake will continue to fight shadows in this world, for everything here is imagination made visible. Shelley once said: “He has awakened from the dream of life. ’Tis we who, lost in stormy visions, Fight with phantoms and unprofitable strife.” Those who are fighting against the establishment do not realize that they are fighting against the objectified images of their own mind. But the day will come when he who is dreaming his world into being will awake within himself to know he is its foundation, the one the Bible calls Jesus.9013 ¶5

The words “Jesus” and “Joshua” mean “Jehovah, the Lord’s salvation.” A man is saved from his dream by returning to the state he occupied before the dream began. When Jesus told those who were listening to him that he came down from heaven, they could not understand his words, for they knew his physical father and mother, his physical brothers and sisters. Seeing only the outer man, they thought he had a demon and was mad. Man is looking for a savior to change the establishment and society in the outside world when it is but a reflection of a dream whose reality lies deep within him. A savior will never be found in the midst of shadows. He will only be found when he who laid himself down within the individual man awakens in a wonderful series of events.9013 ¶6

Everything said of Jesus Christ in scripture is said of you, for you are the dreamer, and the world is your dream pushed out. Fight with it if you will. Do as you like, but you will not awaken until the dream is finished. Then you will awaken to discover that you are its dreamer and creator. There is nothing but your wonderful human imagination! There is no other God. There is no other Jesus Christ. There is no other Lord. Your human imagination is the God of scripture. This I know from experience.9013 ¶7

The series of events which will take place at your awakening begins with your resurrection. You will not resurrect from any cemetery, for every cemetery is conceived by dreaming man who desires to make money. There is no holy ground outside of where you stand, for the holy sepulcher is the human skull. That is where God is buried; and one day, when your dream is complete, you will awaken, not to find yourself in a world you like or dislike, but within your skull which is completely sealed, like an egg whose seal must be broken from within. This you will do, and coming out of that skull, you will know yourself to be the same being you were when you retired the night before. There will be no change of identity, but the symbolism of scripture will be there. You will find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, whose birth will be witnessed by three others. Two, taking the child literally, will deny that you could bring it forth; but one witness will find the evidence and present it to you, the being who awakened from the dream of life. You will take that infant in your arms, and as you speak to it endearingly the vision will dissolve.9013 ¶8

You will go from there into another section of scripture, for you are the Spirit of Jehovah who inspired the prophets to write the Old Testament. And you are the Spirit of Jehovah called Jesus, who controlled the lives of those who wrote the story in the New.9013 ¶9

Following your spiritual birth, you will fulfill the word you inspired the psalmist to say in the 2nd Psalm as “I will tell of the decree of the Lord. He said to me, `Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.”’ Having come into the world to fulfill your own prediction, you must find David and he must cry unto you, “Thou art my Father, my God and the Rock of my salvation.” This second grand event comes when suddenly the David of Biblical fame stands before you. At that moment there will be no uncertainty as to who he is and who you are. You will know the relationship of father/son and he will know it too. David is the result of all of your experiences of humanity. He is the same David as is described in the 16th chapter of the Book of 1 Samuel.9013 ¶10

If you date David chronologically, you would discover that he lived 3000 years ago; but the Bible does not record secular, but salvation history, as the events do not take place here. This is the hell into which God descended and dreams his dream of life. God - your human imagination, your awareness - came out from being aware of being the Father and entered the world by becoming aware of it. The day will come when the world will lose its hold and you, human imagination, will return to the Father as the Father. You entered this wonderful world of adventure for the purpose of expansion, for if the limit of expansion was already reached, it would be hell. Just imagine if you could never go beyond what you are. That would truly be hell would it not? Omnipotence has no part of scripture. God must ever be expanding his wisdom and his power. Having limited yourself to the contraction and opacity called “man”, you will break the shell and know an expansion far beyond what you were, prior to your descent from your exalted state into this limited one.9013 ¶11

Yes, Christ will come, but not as the world expects, for “When Christ comes, no one will know where he came from.” They will see a man such as the speaker. The records will show that he was born in the year 1905 in a little island called Barbados; yet I tell you I am not of this world, for I came down from heaven and have only just remembered it. Believing I was Neville Goddard, a member of a certain family and race, I have been suffering from amnesia. My memory has returned now and I know that I came out from my own being, who is God the Father, for a purpose - to wear a garment called a brother, a son, and a friend. The garment I wear has many names to many people. I wear this garment, but I am not it. I came out from myself and came into the world. Having accomplished the purpose for which I came, I am now leaving the world and returning to myself.9013 ¶12

There are those who would question my sanity and believe I have a devil; that I am mad because I do not believe in an external God, but rather I believe that I am God. And they challenge me relative to what I can do in the world saying: “If you are God, turn this stone into bread, or fall off a cliff and let us see if he will give you support,” - but I say to this doubting Thomas: get behind me. I have told you what I have experienced. Believe me, for in time you will duplicate it. One day you, too, will know that you are God the Father, for you are he who inspired the psalmist to say: “I will tell of the decree of the Lord.” You are that Lord who inspired him to write the words: “Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.” You have come here to fulfill your word.9013 ¶13

But before this dream can come to its end, you must play every part you created in the beginning, be it the part of the rebel or the conservative, the murdered or the murderer, the rich man or the poor man. Having played all, you will forgive all, because it takes every experience of humanity to beget your son David and say: “Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.”9013 ¶14

A few months later another promised event will occur. It is said that: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the son of man be lifted up.” The son of man is Christ, your dreaming being. When this event is fulfilled, you will find yourself split in two from the top of your skull to the base of your spine, with the parts separating about six inches. At the base of your spine you will find a golden liquid light which is pulsing and living. As you look at it you recognize yourself and consciously fuse with it. Then, like a fiery serpent you move up that spinal cord to enter your skull as it reverberates like thunder. Try as you will you cannot get out, for your skull contains the dream of which you are its life.9013 ¶15

The final act will come as that skull becomes translucent, so transparent there is no circumference. Looking up you will see a dove floating about twenty feet above you, its eyes lovingly fixed upon you. In my own case, I raised my left hand, and as I extended my index finger the dove descended and lit upon it. Then I brought it close, and the dove smothered my face and neck with affection, as a woman at my side said: “They avoid humanity because man gives off such an offensive odor. But because of his love for you, he penetrated this ring of offense.” At that moment I fulfilled scripture: “He upon whom you see the Spirit descend in bodily form as a dove and remain, that is he.”9013 ¶16

But I am not alone. I am only a sample. I am telling you what has happened to me and what will happen to all. Let the world continue on its way. Let the riots occur, the wars and rumors of wars, for they will go on forever. There is nothing new under the sun. Evolution appears only in the affairs of man, but not in the creation of God. His creation occurred as one grand explosion, an orgasm which released only one place to cradle his biological experiment. That place is earth. Blake knew this; that is why he said: “We are put on earth a little space to learn to bear the beams of love.” This we are doing even though we don’t see any evidence of it. Instead we see only hate and violence of man against man as individuals set themselves up as the authorities to follow, not knowing that time moves on and one day he, too, will be as old as the speaker, then no one will trust him any more than they now trust anyone over thirty. This goes on forever, for there is nothing new under the sun.9013 ¶17

But I am telling you what I know from experience and what is known from experience is known more thoroughly than any other way in this world. You may know something from hearsay, you may read it in a book, see it in a play, or hear it from the speaker; but you cannot know it in the true sense of the word until you have experienced it.9013 ¶18

When the dreamer in you begins to awake, then you realize that the world is a dream and you can prove it to yourself. If this waking world is as much a dream as your sleeping world, you should be able to control it. In the dream of last night you might have been frightened and believed for a moment that the event was real, outside of yourself, and beyond your control. Only when you awoke did you discover that it was a dream. Had you known at the time that it was a dream, you could have controlled it and made the event conform to your desire. Now awake in this world, you think it is real and outside of yourself, but I tell you: this world is a dream, too. It is every bit as much a dream as the dream of the night, only it is more difficult to control because it appears so real and independent of your perception. But it can be controlled by a simple act of assumption.9013 ¶19

Let us assume that this is a dream and everything is perfect. You are happy and content and all is right in your world. Then persuade yourself of the reality of your assumption. Don’t do anything to make it so; just trust the dreamer in you to bring it to pass, for the power who assumed your desire is the Lord Jesus Christ, and all things are possible to him. Your assumption, though false in the sense that it is denied by your senses and reason, if persisted in will harden into fact in such a normal, natural way that you will think it would have happened anyway. That is the dream. When imagination fulfills itself so naturally, it is easy to question that your assumption had anything to do with it; but I tell you it could not have happened without your assumption, for your awareness is the one and only cause of the phenomena of your life. Use your imagination consciously, and after a while you will stop fighting shadows. The conflict within you will cease and your world will be at peace.9013 ¶20

Let those who are still asleep dream their violence into the world. It’s perfectly all right, for in its midst you will walk knowing you are protected, for you are awake. This is your dream, too, and no dreamer can be destroyed by his dream. You can stop dreaming violence and start dreaming peace while you are here, and share your awareness with those who will listen -but not everyone will.9013 ¶21

Instead they will call you mad and think you have a devil, just as they did of one called Jesus in scripture. This man is mad, for he claims he came down from heaven, yet we know his father Joseph and his mother Mary. He claims that he existed before our father Abraham. How could one living in this century say that David, one who preceded him by 2,000 years, be his son? He doesn’t believe in reincarnation, but in two births: - a physical one that never comes to an end until the second birth takes place. And only one death, which took place at the beginning of time, when he became embodied in a body of flesh and blood and became its slave. He claims he was reborn through the act of awakening from the dream he imposed upon himself in order to expand his power and his wisdom beyond what it was when he made the decision to make man in his image.9013 ¶22

Right now you are living in a fabulous world you created, filled with those who agreed to dream with you in concert. Everyone is dreaming his own dream. One dreams he wants to change the world. They call him Hitler or Stalin and millions of people appear to be killed, but they do not die. Rather, they simply depart this section of time and move into another, not even knowing they departed. Others will come and dream their desire of change and create a world in their own image; yet I tell you the whole thing was done before the world began. You are seeing simply the unfoldment of a purposed end which, as God, we agreed upon before we began the adventure.9013 ¶23

There is no other foundation. Our scientists will continue to find new hypothesis to experiment with, relative to life and its cause. That’s all right, for they are dreaming, too. This world began as a grand orgasm of God, with only this tiny little spot called earth capable of cradling life for the great experiment to take place. Then the dream you and I are dreaming began.9013 ¶24

If you don’t think it is a dream, take some section of your life that seems beyond redemption and rearrange it in your mind’s eye. Make it as you would like it to be. Persuade yourself of its truth and wait, because its fulfillment has its own appointed hour. It ripens, it will flower. If it be long, then wait, for it is sure and it will not be late. It will come into your objective world to bear witness to the reality of your assumption. Then you, too, will know that the world is a dream and you are its dreamer, the Jesus Christ of the New Testament and the Jehovah of the Old.9013 ¶25

The Old Testament is an adumbration - a foreshadowing in a not altogether conclusive or immediately evident way. The New is its interpretation and fulfillment. If you hear the word, “Jesus” and think of a man other than yourself, you do not know him. The priests, rabbis, and ministers are looking for his coming, but they will look in vain. Jesus has already come or they couldn’t breathe. He is their life, but they do not know it. One day, however, he will awaken in them as the being in whom he awakens. Try it.9013 ¶26

What I have told you tonight concerning the coming of Christ is the only foundation. You will never disprove my words, for I am not speaking from speculation or theory, but from experience. When this little garment I now wear is taken away, I will no longer be a part of this age, for I have awakened from this dream called life. And one day, when your dream is over, the series of events which I have just mapped out for you will unfold within you; and you, too, will awaken and return as the one being who began the venture. Believe me. There is no other foundation, no other God other than he who began a good work in you, and he will bring you to completion on the day of Jesus Christ. Now let us go into the silence.9013 ¶27

Imagination Plus Faith (Second Delivery)

Tonight’s subject is Imagination Plus Faith. Imagination plus faith are the reality out of which man fashions his world. What do I mean by imagination? I mean God. Man is all imagination, and God is man, and exists in us, and we in him. The eternal body of man is the imagination, and that is God Himself — the Divine body of Jesus; we are His members. It is entirely up to us what we imagine, but it’s imagination plus faith, for we are told, without faith it is impossible to please Him.9012 ¶1

Now, what I want to tell you tonight is: your own wonderful human imagination is God. I can’t convince you that it is — I ask you to try it, I’ll ask you to test it, but I can’t persuade you to the point of conviction; you have to become self-persuaded through experience.9012 ¶2

So any presentation on my part will really not convince you, but I am hopeful. Imagination is the sole cause of the phenomena of life. If perchance you hear the word God, the word Lord, the word Jesus Christ, and it conveys the thought of some existence, something outside of your own wonderful human imagination, you have a false lord, a false god.9012 ¶3

If you really know who you really are — that your own wonderful human imagination is God — you cannot fail in achieving your objective.9012 ¶4

All things are possible to him who believeth; with God all things are possible. Now he equates man with God. I just quoted from the ninth chapter of Mark and the nineteenth of Matthew. Mark has it: all things are possible to him who believeth. In Matthew he tells a story: he tells the rich young man to go, sell everything — if you want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, sell it all and follow me — and then he was disheartened because he had so many things, so many possessions. And then he said, it’s easier for a camel to enter through a needle’s eye than a rich man to enter Heaven. And then the disciples say, then who can be saved? He said, with men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible. With men who do not know who they are — that’s what he means.9012 ¶5

With men who do not know the Lord’s name. Those who know Thy name put their trust in Thee, for Thou, O Lord, hast not forsaken those who seek Thee. If I know His name — or let us look for His name as revealed in Scripture. And Moses said to God, if I go to the Israelites, and I say to them, the God of your forefathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, what is His name, what shall I say? God said to Moses, say, I AM — that is who I AM, just say I AM. I AM, that is My name forever, and by this name I shall be known throughout all generations; I have no other name. Just be aware — to be aware is to say I AM without using a noun. Just to be aware — that is I AM, that is God. That’s what I mean by imagination.9012 ¶6

Now, what is faith? We are told, in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. And without faith it is impossible to please Him. He calls a thing that is not seen as though it were, and the unseen becomes seen.9012 ¶7

Now, having sold you on my own wonderful human imagination, then how would I go about actually creating something that at the moment seems either difficult or even impossible? I start, first of all, naturally, with God — but God as my own wonderful human imagination. So the most blessed gift in the world is a strong, vivid imagination, a clear idea, and a determinate vision of things as I would like them to be — all within my own mind. Can I conceive it? That would imply the fulfillment of my dreams. See it clearly in my mind’s eye, giving it all the tones of reality, giving it as much sensory vividness as I can, and believe in that imaginal act. Have it so fixed in my mind that I am completely oblivious to all the things wrong about me that would deny it, and walk in the assumption that it is so. Assume that feeling of the wish fulfilled and simply ignore everything that denies it, and walk in it — and I am calling a thing that is not now seen as though it were, and that unseen state will become seen.9012 ¶8

I tell you, I know this from my own experience, it never failed. But — the operative power: knowing what to do is one thing, and doing it is another. So, will I do it? To know it all is well and good, but will I do it?9012 ¶9

Those who know Thy name put their trust in Thee. In any other god — it’s a false god. Turn to any other god, and you are returning to a false god. He is housed within you, as you’re told in Scripture: do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? Examine yourselves, to see whether you’re holding to the faith — test yourselves.9012 ¶10

Well now, I can test you right now, this very moment — in fact, I’ve already given you the test, and you be the judge as to whether you failed or passed. I use the word God, I use the word Lord, I use the word Jesus Christ — if your mind jumped to the outside, to something other than your own wonderful human imagination, you’ve failed the test. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? For if, in any way, no matter how you fight it, no matter what excuses — if the mind goes out, if there’s some image on the outside, no matter how beautiful it is, no matter how wonderful it is — if it goes out, you fail the test.9012 ¶11

So we are told, examine yourselves, to see whether you’re holding to the faith. Now he tells you what it is: do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you — unless, of course, you fail the test.9012 ¶12

Now, it may be a shock to the whole vast world, but I cannot avoid telling the story; I’ve experienced it. I can only share with you what I know.9012 ¶13

And I’m telling you that if you dare, you assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled, knowing that you, who are doing it, are not doing it — for God, your own wonderful human imagination, is doing it. If you dare to assume it, and you walk in the assumption that it is so, ignoring the senses, ignoring the facts of life that deny it — in a way you do not know, it will become a reality in your world.9012 ¶14

This is what I mean by imagination plus faith. But these are the realities out of which we fashion our world.9012 ¶15

Take a man who is drafted. I was drafted in 1942, at the age of 38 — not quite 38, but going on 38. Like millions of us — I, during that war, and they all felt as I did, but they didn’t know this principle. I knew I didn’t want any part of it. Nevertheless, I was drafted; I didn’t resist it. They sent me off to a camp in Louisiana, and after three months in boot training, I decided I would do something about it by applying this principle. I asked, first of all, for an honorable discharge, because there was a regulation that came down from Washington: that if a man was over 38 before March the 1st of 1943, he was eligible. He didn’t say it was automatic — if his commanding officer felt that he needed him in his company, that decision was final with the commanding officer. You could not appeal it to any higher position; you couldn’t take it to the general. So whatever your commanding officer was — and he was a colonel — if he decided he needed you in his battalion, you remained. Well, I had applied based upon the fact that I was eligible, that I was 38 before March the 1st of 1943, and it came back to me disapproved, and signed by my commanding officer. All right, that seemed final.9012 ¶16

But there is nothing final in this world if you know who God is. If you know that your own wonderful human imagination is God, you do not accept anything on the outside that is in conflict with your wonderful desire. So I desired to be honorably discharged out of the army, and to do the work I’m doing now — or, I did it before; I want to return to that world.9012 ¶17

So that night — here was the paper that I had received that day, disapproved, and signed, “Colonel Theodore Bilbo, Jr.” His father was Senator Bilbo of Mississippi. As I retired, in my bunk, with all these men around me, I assumed I was in my own apartment in New York City. I knew it well. I left a wife and a little girl, only a few months old, when I was drafted. My son had volunteered, and he was with the Marines in Guadalcanal. And they picked me up, and I was drafted. And my little girl was born at the end of June of that year, so she was only a few months old. And I had a wife and a little girl. And so I imagine I am home: my wife is in that room, I am in this room, and my little girl is over there in the crib.9012 ¶18

And then I simply assume I am walking through the apartment. It was a nice five-room apartment. I walked from room to room and touched the objects, and it all seemed so familiar, and I looked through the window and I saw Washington Square, and I looked to my right and I saw Sixth Avenue. And then, having gone all through the place, I simply returned to my bed and settled into it — all in my imagination, but I gave it the tones of reality, I gave it sensory vividness, I made it so real that it seemed to me I was actually in my apartment in New York City.9012 ¶19

But I made quite sure I was not there on furlough — I was there because I was honorably discharged. No furlough, not going back. Well, four o’clock in the morning, before my eyes came a sheet of paper. It looked like the sheet that I got from the colonel, where it was disapproved. And as I looked at it, a hand came out, and it held a pen, and it scratched out the word “disapproved,” and it wrote boldly, “approved.” And then the voice said to me, “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.”9012 ¶20

And all the boys were up that week; I remained in that very moment, and I could go down and shave and clean before anyone else did — which I did. And this thing had permeated my entire being, what happened to me that night. For nine days I did nothing. On the ninth day, the same colonel called me in, and after a long chat with me, he said, “Go back to your commanding officer, captain, and tell him to sign another application.” And so I went back — I had done nothing in the interval — “Have you signed another application?” I went back to the colonel and the colonel approved it, and that very day I was on a train from Camp Polk, Louisiana, to New York City, honorably discharged.9012 ¶21

To this day, none of them ever knew what I did. I did it all in my imagination. I believe that what I did was fact. I believe that my imaginal act creates fact, and therefore I actually lived in my apartment, and I was not any longer a soldier — I was a civilian, but I was honorably discharged from the army, not dishonorably. In nine days it was fulfilled.9012 ¶22

I can multiply that story by hundreds, if one will actually do it. For we are told: it doesn’t matter what strange things you do, or getting in wrong with the government — you’re not fighting for your objectives, you don’t fight at all. The voice said to me, “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.”9012 ¶23

Well, where was that voice within me? That very voice that I heard, coming from without, was actually arising from within me. The voice said to Moses, I AM, that is who I AM, and he heard it as coming from without. What is being whispered comes from within. Are we not told in Scripture that we are the temple of the living God, and the Spirit of God dwells in us? And how can I hear it as coming from another, when it is coming from within myself?9012 ¶24

But I could not get a passage. I did the same thing. What I saw was when I was stuck on an island for months, because there was no train, no ships coming. I did the same thing I did in the army; together, I did it. When I was on an island and could not get out, and there was a long, long list waiting, and they called me and gave me passes for my wife, my little girl, and myself. And yet there were thousands waiting all through the Indies to get out, and only two little ships servicing the entire group of islands, and I simply got out.9012 ¶25

It doesn’t matter how I did it. Naturally, I didn’t kill anyone, I didn’t bribe anyone, I didn’t pull any strings — I simply applied this principle. I assumed that I am on a ship, looking back nostalgically at the little island, leaving behind me my friends and my relatives, and taking with me my wife and my daughter. And I look back and it seems so noble and so natural. I gave it the tones of reality — I could feel the salt of the sea on the rail as I held the rail of the ship, I could smell the rawness of the ocean, I could see the island.9012 ¶26

And then, within a matter of twenty-four hours after I did it, I got a call from the Alcoa Steamship Company to come on down and see them. I went down, and they said, “We have a passage for you — there are only two berths, but the little girl can sleep with her mother, and you can sleep up top.” And so there were two bunks, on a lovely small ship, only carrying sixty-odd passengers. But I sailed and came back in time, as I was committed to go and speak in Milwaukee the first of May, and I got there — got there in time.9012 ¶27

So I ask everyone who believes in God — but God is not something on the outside. God is your own wonderful human imagination. If you have any other god, you have a false god. Therefore, do not feed him anything but love — nothing but love. Always exercise your imagination lovingly on behalf of everyone in this world; it cannot cost you anything, and it doesn’t hurt anyone. And you will find yourself becoming the man that you want to be, the lady that you want to be, and you’ll move from stage to stage to stage, without hurting anyone, fulfilling all of your dreams. Then you’ll know how true the statement is: all things are possible to him who believeth, because with God all things are possible. And you are of God, your Father, in yourself, as your own wonderful human imagination — that is done.9012 ¶28

It’s stated so clearly in Scripture. He’s called in Scripture “the Potter,” and the word “Potter” means imagination. “I went down to the potter’s house, to see him do his work, and there he was, working at his wheel, making something out of clay. But the vessel that he had in his hand was marred, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to him to do.”9012 ¶29

He didn’t destroy it, he didn’t discard it — he reworked it into another vessel. So you don’t just discard anyone. Whoever you are working on, see him as you would like to be seen by the world, see him in a more noble light. So you rework him in your own imagination, and believe in what you’ve done, and he will conform to it.9012 ¶30

So you don’t discard anyone as something that cannot be remedied, that cannot be made right in this world — you mold him in your own mind, for the Potter is your own wonderful human imagination, and any vessel you hold, whether it be another man or yourself, see that it is done in love — that you are actually the man that you want to be, that those around you are what they would like to be. And have a vivid imagination of it, a clear idea of what you really want in this world, and a determinate vision of things as they ought to be, and have it all fixed in your own mind’s eye.9012 ¶31

Then, in a way that no one knows, they will all come to pass — they will not change. You do not need any background to apply this principle. If you have no social, financial, intellectual, or any other background, it does not matter — you do not need them.9012 ¶32

It’s nice to have them, no question about it, but many of us were born without these qualifications. I know — I had no social, intellectual, or financial background whatsoever. Born on a small little island, of a very poor white family, a large family of nine boys and one girl. Well, my father and mother found it naturally difficult to keep a family of that size in clothes and school, so my schooling was limited. We always had enough food to eat, but we ate whatever the island provided — sweet potato, rice, fish — sufficient enough, but certainly not a variety of things.9012 ¶33

And then I left the island when I was seventeen years and six months old, and came to this country, uneducated, and therefore they said to me, “You can’t get a job.” I went to a certain place, offered myself to string wires for the telephone company, and they said, “You’re not qualified.” I said, “Well, I’m strong, I’m young and healthy and strong, and I’m quite capable of doing it.” “No, you don’t have the educational background for it.” So — I finally found a job at J. C. Penney; I was nothing more than a good busboy. [A brief technical interruption in the recording occurs here.]9012 ¶34

So, what I’m trying to persuade you to do is to follow Scripture. Scripture is the greatest book in the world, and it teaches you, and it tells you, it invites you, and encourages you, to exercise your imagination lovingly on behalf of anything in this world, and that you cannot fail in achieving the goal that you seek in this world, if you know who you are. Praying to an external God is not going to help you at all — there is no external God.9012 ¶35

He literally became man, that man may become God. He isn’t pretending that he’s been knowing all along that he isn’t — he literally became man, and completely emptied himself of the divine power, and took upon himself the limitations and the constriction of man. And finding himself man, you know, subject to all the weaknesses of man — but in the end he discovered and remembers who he is, and then, as man remembers who he is, he shares that memory with his brothers who have not yet remembered who they are. For we all are one, and there’s only one God — all one God, buried in this fragmented state called humanity.9012 ¶36

And so I’m telling you that tonight, it will not take you long, if you know exactly what you want in this world, and you’re willing to assume that you have it, and sleep tonight as though it were true. I’ll make a mental image of friends about you, congratulating you on your good fortune, and you see them in that act, and you accept it — you don’t make excuses about it, you accept it as fact before it is seen by the world. The Catholic Bible translates this statement best of all, as far as I’m concerned — it’s the seventeenth verse of the fourth chapter of Romans, and it says God calls things that are not seen as though they were, and the unseen becomes seen.9012 ¶37

The popular Bibles, of King James and the Revised Standard Version, they say he calls into existence the things that do not exist. That is questionable to me — all things exist. All things exist in the human imagination, but I do not call them into being; I can select the one that I want the cause to be. So I cannot say I call into existence the things that do not exist, because they do exist, but they’re unseen by mortal eyes — so I call it into being.9012 ¶38

Now these unseen things are states of consciousness, and all states exist — they exist now. You and I are travelers, and we travel through states, as a person travels through cities, and he leaves behind the city, but the city remains, and he goes on.9012 ¶39

So I travel through states — I can travel to the state of poverty. Poverty remains, for anyone to enter, but having shared it for a while, I didn’t like it, and so I moved out of the state; but I don’t destroy the state — the state is there for everyone to enter, if he wants to enter. You can feel sorry for himself, and then, in no time, he finds himself in a state he doesn’t like, but he can’t see it as a state, and he thinks, “What’s wrong with me?” He’s only in a state.9012 ¶40

Don’t condemn the man for the state that he’s in — it’s the state, and you can’t kill the state or destroy the state. The state is there, a permanent fixture of the universe, but you can move him out of the state; represent him to yourself as the man that he would like to be, and see him as that man in your own mind’s eye, and you will take him out of that state. The state will remain, for anyone, either willingly or unwillingly, to enter.9012 ¶41

So we’re all moving through states, and the individual simply moves from state to state. When you find that you can go where you want to, it’s not the privilege of the rich — it’s the privilege of the man who can imagine. I had no power, no pull, to get myself out of the army. I didn’t need wealth, I didn’t need any background — all I needed was the memory that I am God. “Be still, and know that I am God” — that told us in the forty-sixth Psalm, the tenth verse. “Be still, and know that I am God.”9012 ¶42

You can’t — you can’t be that arrogant? All right — well, this will often seem that arrogant. Well then, remain where you are — remain in the little state, perfectly all right, because the state doesn’t care how long you occupy it. You could occupy it from the cradle to the grave, and it doesn’t care. But while you’re in a state, you’re going to illuminate that state, and you’re going to reap the proof of that state.9012 ¶43

But knowing that they are states, select a more desirable state, and then you enter that state. But how do I enter the state? It’s all a mood. It’s not Churchill who told us that the mood determines the fortunes of people, rather than fortunes determine the mood. He knew what he was talking about — their fortunes do not determine the mood; the mood determines the fortunes of people, rather than — just — mood determines the fortunes.9012 ¶44

I will assume the feeling; I assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled, and then it was Anthony Eden who told us, “An assumption, though false, if persisted in, will harden into fact.” And you can’t deny — both were prime ministers of England. Churchill was the great prime minister during the war years, and Anthony Eden followed him. And when the conservative party came back into power, it was Anthony Eden who was the Prime Minister.9012 ¶45

And I’ll just quote these two prime ministers — and also the great Benjamin Disraeli, who said, “Man is not the creature of circumstances; circumstances are the creatures of men.”9012 ¶46

So it’s entirely up to me — if I know that these things are infinite states, I enter this state or that state or the other. And I simply enter a state through my mood — that’s all. What would the feeling be like if it were true? Well, then I contemplate the thing, and then, what would it be like if it were true? And if I dare to assume that, and act from it — that’s my way to success. The feeling of the wish fulfilled, sustained, is man’s road to success.9012 ¶47

For tonight, dream nothing less, and don’t limit it by your present state, for that’s only a state. Use the argument of the presence of God being equal in everything in this world. What is only God? And the one occupying that state is one being. So one who has a vision today, he is in a state of fabulous wealth — but the one occupying the state is the same being that you are, is God; there’s nothing but God. And the one who is enjoying great health, and the one who is now not enjoying health, they’re still the same being.9012 ¶48

And so, what would it be like? Ask a simple question and catch the mood — that’s how you catch the mood, then the fortune follows. We’re always believing in the evidence of our senses. Don’t wait for evidence — you precede the evidence with your belief, and the belief is caught by a mood. What would it be like if it were true?9012 ¶49

So, imagination plus faith are the realities out of which we fashion all things, and without faith it is impossible to please Him — that’s what we are told in the sixth verse of the eleventh chapter of Hebrews. All these marvelous things are taught us in Scripture, but man doesn’t see it correctly — he sees it as secular history, and it isn’t secular history; the whole thing is salvation history. The whole thing is all about God, and God became man that man may become God. And so it actually is seated here in everyone who is seated here, and you say, “I am” — that’s God, it is.9012 ¶50

When you hear the word God tomorrow, or you hear the word Jesus, or you hear the word Lord — don’t fail your test, and let the mind jump to the outside of something other than yourself, for the God spoken of in Scripture is your own wonderful human imagination — that is done.9012 ¶51

There isn’t a thing in this world that you see now as a fact that was not first imagined — not one single thing. It was all first imagined. Now you may say, “Well, the tree — I didn’t imagine that.” Yes — divinely imagined in the depths of your own being. Today, on the surface, you can see all the things that you do, the clothes you wear — they had first to be imagined. The very building in which we — our house — had to be imagined. All these preceded the evidence that came into being.9012 ¶52

But if you go beyond that and say, “Well, after all, the stones were not, and the trees were not” — yes, they were; they were all imagined in the depths of your own being. But now it has come to the surface, and there it is, and you can see the evidence of what man imagines in the world. Man first had to imagine going to the moon before he conceived the means to get to the moon, and you and I have to imagine everything in this world before it becomes a fact in this world. There isn’t a thing that you and I would call a fact that was not first imagined.9012 ¶53

So objective reality is solely produced through imagining. And you can start now to imagine a more noble world for your own self and for your immediate circle — you don’t have to go into the whole globe, just your immediate circle. Imagine a more lovely thing that you want to experience in this world, and if you imagine it, and believe what you have imagined is fact, it will become a fact.9012 ¶54

I tell you, imagining creates reality, because God imagining is creating, and man imagining is God, and so it is created.9012 ¶55

Now look at the world, and see what we’ve done — because we did not know what we were doing. Any newsstand will show you the most horrible things in the world, that all man’s imagination — it need not be. But we have suffered it morning, noon, and night, because man has not controlled his own wonderful human imagination. When he does, he will have — well — Heaven on Earth.9012 ¶56

So, if I could now summarize it for you: the God of whom I speak is the human imagination, and all he uses with that is faith. And faith is simply the subjective appropriation of the objective hope. And that’s an easy thing to do — it’s simply to appropriate it subjectively: what would the feeling be like if it were true? That’s a subjective appropriation of my objective hope.9012 ¶57

I want to get out of the army. If I were out, where would I be? I would be home, in Washington Square, New York City. Well then, get there. But how do I get there? Here I am in Camp Polk. Well, you go there in the only reality that there is — your imagination. So, in my imagination, I am instead — I am in my place in New York City. And then I thought of Camp Polk, and I saw it two thousand miles to the south of me, where I was, not where I am, for I am in New York City. So you think, for example — I saw my way down, I was down south in Louisiana, but I viewed the world from that state. And having done that, I fell asleep.9012 ¶58

And falling asleep, here came an internal voice, telling me, “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.” And it actually scratched out “disapproved” and wrote in “approved,” and that all came from within me. For a dream, if you call it a dream, is egocentric, so the whole thing has to take place within me. And I’m only sharing with you what I actually have experienced.9012 ¶59

And then, in nine days, I’m on my way — for the vision had its own appointed hour: it ripened in nine days, and then it flowered. And I came into the colonel’s presence, he shook my hand. I went off and I got my pay, and, resuming, went to the place and bought my ticket off to New York City — he was a nice gentleman.9012 ¶60

Now, I did not argue with that man. I did not try to frustrate him outwardly. I did nothing, as the voice said to me — I didn’t raise a finger to argue why I should be — beyond his disapproval. And the law said you cannot take it to any higher position; your commanding officer’s decision is final; I could not take it to the divisional commander, only my battalion commander. And yet I was out. And I didn’t violate any rule — I simply went through the rules — and he himself had a change of heart, and he doesn’t know why he had a change of heart.9012 ¶61

He had to — he had to, or the whole army would have had to. After I did what I did, and when the voice came — because when vision breaks into speech, the presence of God is affirmed. And here is vision: now I see the hand, I see the papers, I see the pen, and here’s the action, approved, and then comes the voice.9012 ¶62

So the vision is brought into speech, and there is the affirmation of the presence of God, as we are told in the third chapter of the Book of Exodus: he saw the burning, burning bush, and then the bush began to speak. And so here was the vision, accompanied by words. And when vision breaks into speech, the presence of God is affirmed.9012 ¶63

And this will happen to you too, and you will know who you really are, as the Jesus of the Bible — the most glorious concept in the world. But it’s reality — he’s not a myth, it’s true.9012 ¶64

But where is he buried in man? He is the sepulcher in which he is buried — he’s buried in your own skull, and out of your own skull, one day he arises. When he arises in you, as you will know who Jesus is — and, “he who sees me sees the Father,” and you know who the Father is, and then you will know who the Son is. And there won’t be another — it’s you, because it’s your own imagination. And you do not observe imagination as you do objects — you are the reality that is named imagination. So you don’t observe it as another; you are that reality.9012 ¶65

But all that is said of him, you’re going to be — in spirit, being a first-person, present experience. And then you’ll know who you are, when he rises in you, as you will know who Jesus is. And “he who sees him sees the Father,” and you know who the Father is, and then you will know who the Son is.9012 ¶66

For no other son who calls his father this — which is not taught in our churches to this day — but the son who will call you father will be David, of biblical fame: he will call you father, he’ll call you “my God, and the rock of my salvation,” and you will know it is true. There is no uncertainty as to this relationship, if you knew, and the son who will call you father — and then you’ll know who you are, or, he is the son of God, as taught us in the Bible. “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”9012 ¶67

These are the words of David, and David, in the spirit, will call you my father — and then you will know who you are, you will know God, because no one in the world can convince you that you are God — but his son, calling you father, can.9012 ¶68

I can tell you, from now to the end of time, that it’s true, but not to convince you — I hope to persuade you, and perhaps lose you somewhat in your thoughts — but I can actually convince you that it’s true, when his son, David, turns in your presence and calls you father, and you know it — no uncertainty as to this relationship — and then, and only then, will you know who you are.9012 ¶69

That’s why we are told in Scripture: no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. So when the Son chooses to reveal — then you know who you are.9012 ¶70

Your own wonderful human imagination is the God of Scripture, and God, using only faith, creates his world. And because of this, you, using your own wonderful human imagination, using only faith, create the world in which you would like to live.9012 ¶71

Now let us go into the silence.9012 ¶72

The Marks of Jesus (Second Delivery)

The subject is The Marks of Jesus. The story of Jesus is an acted parable, a parable which is all about the last things — that part of the history of salvation which is still in prospect and which presses for realization. And the man who has experienced that part of the history of salvation cannot escape the responsibility of telling its meaning to his fellow man. No one who’s experienced it can really turn away from others and leave them as he was prior to his experience.9011 ¶1

When you and I open the Bible and read of these wonderful characters, it dawns on all of us — as far as we’re concerned, we ought all of us to really understand — that these patriarchs, say Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and all of them, are not in the main persons as you and I are persons. They are simply representatives of the eternal spiritual states of the soul, states through which you and I pass from our beginning of the journey to the end, where the end is God. These are all visions of these eternal states as they were received by men qualified to receive them, called by us the prophets, and they recorded them, and we have them in our Bible.9011 ¶2

But these are states. I have seen these things. When you see the state, yes, it’s personified, it’s a person, but you must always remember it’s a state, not the person, as you’re a person or I am a person. So here tonight — the marks of Jesus. What are they?9011 ¶3

Your churches paint pictures of him, and they think the marks of Jesus are the stigmata. They’re not the marks. I have gone from, I would say, gallery to gallery. I’ve seen these pictures of what the artists believe to be Jesus, and here they’ve depicted a man and given him the marks of the stigmata in the palms of the hand, the feet, the head, and — mind you — some even change the side from the right to the left, depending upon the artist. And these are not the marks. When Paul said, “Henceforth let no one trouble me, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus,” he is telling us, if we understand it, he has experienced this passage of the last of the history of salvation, and these marks begin with the resurrection. That’s where it begins.9011 ¶4

“I will bring you to remembrance,” says the Evangelist John. “I will bring you to the remembrance of all the things that I have told you, and I have told you before it takes place, that when it does take place you may know that I am he.” When you read that you might think a man is talking to a group and telling the group that when this thing takes place, and I’m telling you now, you will know that I am him. That’s not it. What he is telling everyone is that when it takes place you will know that the I AM in you — who experiences a goal — that I AM, he now disappears. For he says, “I do not go away, the Holy Spirit cannot come, but if I go I will send it.” This is the gift of the Father, and when he comes he will lead you into all truth and teach you all things, and he will bring to your remembrance all the things that I have told you. But the word translated “remembrance” in Greek is cenotaph — a sepulcher, a great interment. That’s where it starts.9011 ¶5

“I will bring to your remembrance” — what will he bring? “That I carry in my body the death of Jesus, that I may also manifest the life of Jesus in my body.” I carry in my body the death of Jesus, that I may manifest the life of Jesus in my body. This is the story: everyone carries in his body the death of Jesus.9011 ¶6

Now let me give you one of the marks. You’re told in the forty-second Psalm — this is the psalm of remembrance, when he brings back to memory. “I remember,” said he, “I walked with this enormous crowd and led them in procession to the house of God.” It was a gay crowd, a festive rout.9011 ¶7

Well, let me give you my own experience. Here I found myself — it is an enormous crowd, all dressed as though the world of the Near East, where the drama is laid. I am leading them in procession, and they’re gay — it’s a very, very gay crowd, singing praises and giving thanks to God, walking towards some unseen Mecca, unseen temple. And as we walked a voice rang out — he heard the voice but no one saw a form — and the voice said, “And God walks with them.” At that a woman at my side asked the question: if God walks with us, where is he? She’s addressing the unseen but heard voice. And the voice replied, and all could hear it, with this enormous crowd, “By your side.” With this she turned automatically to her side, looked into my face, and she became hysterical — it struck her funnily. So now she addresses again this voice — it has no face, it has no form — and she says to the voice that spoke to all of us, “You mean that Neville is God?” And the voice replied, “Yes.”9011 ¶8

In the act of waking, then, from the depths of my own soul the voice spoke, but only to me — no one heard what it said but the speaker — and the voice said to me, “I lay myself down within you to sleep, and as I slept I dreamed a dream.” I dreamed, and I knew the end. I became so ecstatically happy — I can’t describe in words the thrill, the emotion that possessed me — for I knew the end of that sentence: yes, I dreamed I am you. Thank you.9011 ¶9

With this I felt the crucifixion, and may I tell you, far from what the churches preach and all the teachers talk about, it is sheer ecstasy — what a joy! My hands became vortices, my head a vortex, my two feet vortices, my right side a vortex — these vortices nailed me to this body, but it was joy. And then you would understand: no one takes away my life, I lay down myself, I have the power to lay it down and the power to lift it up again. So it was in love that he laid himself down within us to sleep, to dream the dream of life, that at the end of the dream, to raise us with him — he the dreamer raises us because he’s dreaming that he’s us, and he individualizes us in this manner. It was a voluntary act, and there was no pain whatsoever in that decision of God to become you. God became man voluntarily, that man may become God, and there is no pain in that act whatsoever — sheer ecstasy, and that word doesn’t describe the thrill that was mine when I felt it that night, in fulfillment of the forty-second Psalm: “I will bring to your remembrance all that I have told you.”9011 ¶10

Now he disappears from the scene. God tells the story of his plan, of his purpose, and then becomes invisible — he isn’t there, for nearness implies separation. God becomes man — there’s no nearness about it, he is actually man. Can you say “I am” is near? You can say “I am,” and say that it is near — that’s the core, that’s the center. You may say the hand is there, that is there, everything else is near — to what? To I AM. But I AM can’t be near — it can’t be, even so far off as even to be there, for nearness implies separation. He actually became — and in becoming man, man is using the name, the only name, which is I AM.9011 ¶11

So here, that’s a mark: I bear on my body the marks of Jesus, because I carry always in my body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in my body. And this story of Jesus is always about the last things — this is the eschatology of scripture. It’s the very age of the great drama, when it’s coming to an end. There are certain signs that will appear on the body, not visible to any mortal eye — the signs are experiences of the individual who bears the signs. Christianity is based upon the assertion that a series of events happened in which God revealed himself in action for the salvation of man, and it begins with the tomb, with the resurrection.9011 ¶12

“I will bring to your remembrance all the things that I have told you” — if he brings to my remembrance, I go back to the cenotaph, where he is buried. He is buried in the skull of man — that’s where God is actually buried. The sleep is so profound it’s called in scripture death. It isn’t — it’s the great mystery of life through death, for he had to empty himself completely of all that he is, to become this little thing called man. He completely exceeded himself and took upon himself the fullness of man, and becoming man he dreams the dream of life, and takes himself through this dream of horror. We are the incarnation of the tragedy and the glory of this wonderful message of salvation. We should not forget the glory in the tragedy — that there is tragedy, who denies it, look all around, there is tragedy — but we must not forget, and should not forget, the glory that follows when the dream is over and God awakes from the dream. He has told us in the Psalms: “Arouse thyself, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Do not cast us off forever. Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead.” So he equates sleep with death — “awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead” — so he takes these two and they are equated, sleep and death. It is so profound: God had to completely forget who he was, to become you.9011 ¶13

So I’m speaking from experience, I am not theorizing, I’m not trying to build some little philosophy of life — I promise you, and my purpose here is to tell you what portions of scripture I have experienced. Man must experience scripture — to sit down and work out some little philosophy of life, millions have done it, and they’re all over the world, little isms all over the world. I am not here to work out some little ism, but just to tell you the word of God as recorded in scripture is true — but not as the world teaches it. It is true for the individual to experience, and every person in this world will experience scripture.9011 ¶14

He has told us — the scripture must be realized in me, scripture must be realizing me, fulfilled in me, and then, beginning with the law of Moses and all through the prophets and the Psalms, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. So we go back to the tomb — that’s where the real aim is coming in. No one understood it until the resurrection, as we’re told in scripture. He said to them, “You do not understand now what I am doing, but you will afterwards.” He was washing their feet, and he told them, “You do not now understand the reason behind this, the meaning of this, but you will afterwards.” And it was only after the resurrection that the disciples understood the unfolding drama.9011 ¶15

But what is the job? You’ve gone to the theater and you’ve seen the most wonderful play, with the meaning, with the message — not everyone in the audience got the message. I know two got it in the same manner. So we’re told, in Galatians — it’s the same book from which we quoted tonight’s title, when we say, “I bear on my body the marks of Jesus” — he said to the Galatians, “O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? Let me ask you only this: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or did you receive it by hearing with faith? You heard it and you believed it. Are you so foolish, having begun in the spirit, are you now ending in the flesh?”9011 ¶16

For the whole vast world accepts this personification of God’s creative power as a being of flesh, and he’s asking the Galatians, you heard it in the spirit, didn’t you — a story was told you, the most incredible story in the world, the story of God’s plan, his purpose, to actually endow his own creation with life, like an artist conceiving, like Pygmalion and Galatea. A Pygmalion conceives the most glorious thing in the world, as he can conceive it, but it’s dead, it’s made of marble, and it can’t respond, it can’t love him, the creator, and he doesn’t know what to do because he wanted it to become animated, something alive. And to whom does he pray? He prays to the goddess of love, and Galatea responds — the first word that she utters is the name of her creator. I’ve seen the play, and here this beautiful marble statue, and suddenly it begins to pronounce “Pygmalion” — the statue becomes alive and is saying “Pygmalion.” In our case, we become alive; we call our creator’s name — we don’t call him God, we don’t call him that, we don’t call him — before man can say anything, man must first be, aware that he is, to be aware that he is he, is saying — by the emotions or not — he is saying “I am.” So we are the so-called dead who become animated, and we know that we are, knowing that we are, we’re saying “I am.”9011 ¶17

So the Creator is calling forth life and making us become animated lovers in his world — he wants lovers. So here in this wonderful picture, he goes to this state of death — it begins with death, and then he animates it, and it brings it up.9011 ¶18

So here, let me give you now my own experience, beginning with the first great mark — the crucifixion, yes, that’s one — but although the crucifixion is over, the resurrection is taking place. This is the most damnable statement he pronounces upon those who teach that the resurrection is past — read it in his second letter to Timothy — those who teach that the resurrection is over and past are leading people astray and causing them to move from the faith, the true faith. So the churches say the resurrection took place two thousand years ago; Paul, in his letter to Timothy, condemns the man unmistakably who teaches that it is over. It is taking place every moment of time — someone is being raised from the dead.9011 ¶19

And stop — and stop where he was buried. I bear always in my body the death of Jesus, for I know the location — it’s my skull. I didn’t know it until it happened, and so when it happened, and I walked within my skull, to discover the skull to be a tomb, to be a sepulcher — it was only a day that I realized that that’s where he was buried. I heard the voice say to me, “I laid myself down, putting you to sleep, and as I slept I dreamed a dream. I dreamed — yes, I dream I am you” — but I didn’t realize how literally true that statement was, that he actually entombed me, this death, and laid himself down within me and shared with me these visions of life, until the dreamer awoke. [Passage garbled — kept close to the raw stream: “I know Lincoln, he breaks me with him, because he fused that interval, refused, and became one.”]9011 ¶20

And then we come up, and saw the mark that Paul speaks of, “I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.” He starts now with the tomb. Do I bear the mark of the tomb? Yes, I have had experience of the tomb — you can’t see it with mortal eye, but I know it from experience, and so that one mark was my first mark, the mark of the tomb, for all have had them — of the crucifixion, that was only a remembrance. Remember, “I will bring to your remembrance all that I have told you.” So everyone is going to have that experience of leading the crowd in procession to the house of God, and when it happens, the night it happens, it will only be a remembrance of the things that he’s telling us would happen. But beginning with the tomb, that’s something we did not experience before — these things would have simply told us, and now men could not believe it. I’m starting to begin to unfold within it.9011 ¶21

So the first great mark is to awaken in your skull, to find it a sepulcher, and then you come out — you push the base of that skull from within, something gives, and you come out, and you come out in the manner that a child comes out of the womb of a woman, head first, and you come out inch by inch by inch, and there you are on the floor, and you rise, and look back at that cervical — the body out of which you’ve just emerged — as ghastly pale, to fulfill scripture, pardon me — Jeremiah, the thirtieth chapter of Jeremiah: “Why is every face so pale?” And so you look at it and it’s ghastly pale.9011 ¶22

And now comes the great unfolding of the wind, the spirit. So much is said in John about the importance of the spirit, the importance of the wind, and you hear it, and you feel it, and you wonder where is this strange, unearthly wind coming from — you know it’s here, you feel it here, but it’s all of them. And then all the symbolism of scripture begins to appear before you, and it happens so automatically and so naturally. Three men take the place where the body was when it disappears — you look at these men, they can’t see you, but you see them, and you hear every thought, and read and discern what they’re thinking, and when two of them — well, they can believe what the third has announced, for the third has announced the body is found. And he finds the sign of your birth, for you’re told in scripture, “This shall be a sign unto you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.” It’s a sign, it’s not the event, it’s not any more the event than the flag flying on the White House tonight — if the president is there, if he’s in residence, the flag flies. It only signifies his presence, but that’s not the president. If I want to know is he in office, look to see if the flag is flying, for whenever he is in office that flag should fly, and when he is not in the White House the flag is lowered. So the little babe wrapped in swaddling clothes is a sign — signifying an event, this unearthly event where the individual has been born into an entirely different age, a new world, a new beginning.9011 ¶23

So they find the sign, lift the sign up, and place it on the bed, and you will take that sign, a child, you will raise it, you look into his heavenly face and say some wonderful, endearing sentence, and with that it will break into a smile, and the whole thing will resolve while you are still holding that sign — a living, living babe wrapped in swaddling clothes. So that’s the second mark: I bear upon my body the marks of Jesus, for in my body I bear the death of Jesus, and now, because it’s life through death, he must now spring into flower, and these are all the marks of the flowers — there’s a bud upon the tree, and that’s the second one.9011 ¶24

And then comes the third — and the third mark you will bear upon your body is when he reveals to you your true identity, for God is a father, and if God is the father, and he succeeds in his purpose, which is to sow — to give himself to you — that he actually becomes you, in that moment of becoming you, you are a father. And so he brings, and this third mark, his son — and the son calls you father, and you’re exactly who you are, and you know exactly who the child, a boy, is — he is David, of biblical fame — and there is no doubt in your mind, no uncertainty as to this eternal relationship. So you can say, “I bear that mark upon my body.”9011 ¶25

And then comes the other sign, for he brings us out of this wilderness with signs and wonders, and so the one sign identified with the escape from Egypt, as we make our exodus, is that of the serpent, and so the great fiery serpent is lifted up upon a rod that buds, and here in your wonderful body you will feel it as though it took place physically, you’ll feel it just as though the whole thing was taking place physically. You’ll be stripped from top to bottom, and you will observe this thing that is split, that the book of Hebrews equates with the body of Jesus — the curtain of the temple is the flesh of Jesus, as we’re told in the book of Hebrews — and you feel the flesh being cut right down from top to bottom, and just as it splits and you see it parted, you look, and behold the blood of God at the base — it’s not red, it’s liquid golden light — as you look at it you know, in the depths of your soul, “I am it, that is my very self.” Knowing it, you fuse with what you perceive, and the perceived and the perceiver become one. And then, like a fiery serpent, this rod goes right up into your skull — that’s the other mark you bear upon your body.9011 ¶26

And then comes the seal of approval, as the final mark, and that seal of approval is when the heavens open, and there is no limit, no circumference, just infinite transparency, translucency, and you look up, and hovering above you, as though floating on water, yet there is no water, but just as though it’s floating, is this heavenly dove, and it looks at you, and its eye catches your eye, and you do it automatically — you raise your hand — it gently descends upon your hand, and you bring it to your face, and it smothers you with affection, kisses you all over your head, and while it’s smothering you the whole thing dissolves.9011 ¶27

But I’ll give you one little instance — whether this happens to you or not, I don’t know, but I must tell you — I have not written it, I omitted it from the telling in the book. A woman was at my side, and the woman said to me, “He loves you.” Well, it was so obvious that he loved me, smothering me with kisses. “So he loves you.” Then she said to me, “You know, they avoid man” — man gives off the most offensive odor, and to avoid the odor they avoid man — “but he so loved you, he penetrated the ring of offense and came down to demonstrate his love for you.”9011 ¶28

So this scene from on high is not only a world of bliss, but a world of death, a world of decay, a world that gives off the most horrible odor, but the Holy Spirit, symbolized by the dove, showing his infinite mercy, penetrates this horror called the odor of man, which is his violence, and comes down upon the one that at that moment he has selected and sealed and approved. Everyone will have it — but everyone — I didn’t put that in the little pamphlet, for reasons I do not know if it’s the experience of everyone. The dove is the experience of everyone, but that portion I omitted, because I didn’t want someone to feel that it was something different. But that was my experience — she said to me, “He loves you,” and I didn’t reply, because to me it was so obvious that he loved me. And then she gave me the reasons for his descent, and told me that this horrible odor that man gives off so offends them that they avoid that, but that his love was so intense for me that he penetrated the ring of offense and came down to demonstrate his love for me. His work in me was finished, and he sealed it with himself.9011 ¶29

So this is our story concerning the marks of Jesus. So here, as Paul said, “Henceforth let no one trouble me, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus,” has nothing to do with the stigmata. Stigmata is actually — beyond measure, not painful — as you see on these paintings, don’t for one moment believe it. Last year in the Metropolitan in New York City here was one, at a fantastic price, and they had the six points on the left side — well, that was not my experience, it was on the right side, but these points came simultaneously — he didn’t puncture this and then that, and then my feet singly, and then my head — all came together, I was sucked into this body by these six whirling vortices, and I can’t describe the sheer ecstasy of that, kneeling on this body, when God made his decision to take what he had created and make it alive, and give himself to it. So they’re not two of us, just one, and I am here — that’s the story.9011 ¶30

So this wonderful vision, or experience, I would say, of Paul’s, would really be the experience of every child born of woman. No one will fail, for the very simple reason you aren’t doing it. “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” He began it in us, and he completes it, and so no one does it — it’s being done unto man.9011 ¶31

If it seems a trying time, all right, do not dwell upon the tragedy, dwell upon the glory, for the glory is ours — we are the incarnation of both tragedy and glory, but we should not dwell upon the tragedy to the exclusion of the glory. So here, these marks are not to be seen with mortal eye, they are to be seen by being experienced, and then you hold them forever in your wonderful immortal memory. When you take off this garment for the last time, you will see the full significance of the experiences — they’ll all be revealed to you, why this eschatology had to take place.9011 ¶32

So the story of Jesus is simply that portion of the message of salvation that is still in being, still in prospect, but pressing for realization, and is realizing us. So the aim comes so suddenly, it takes us unaware — it takes us suddenly, and comes to us while we’re still living in this strange existential situation. You wake in the morning the same person you went to bed that night, the same timbers that you were the day before, and all of a sudden, in this strange — [...] — and then you go back into the ancient scriptures, and you read it, and see it was all foretold. That’s why the ancient rabbis said that we are predestined — or events are predestined — if foretold by a word of scripture. If I can read it, the scripture — it’s predestined, I don’t make it, it just happens. It happens when the word is being brought to completion, and the moment that word is coming to completion, well then it unfolds within us.9011 ¶33

So Jesus Christ is a wholly supra-personal being — don’t look for him in the flesh. So let me remind you what Paul said to the Galatians: “Are you so foolish, having begun in the spirit, are you ending in the flesh?” Don’t look for any physical Jesus, don’t look for any man outside of yourself as the savior. Listen to the words of Isaiah: “I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior, and besides me there is no savior.” Who spoke? I AM. “I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior.” So don’t make any image of a savior outside, for when he comes he’s going to come within you, and when he comes you’ll understand the words: “I have told you before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he.” So all this was said of the Lord, and it happened — but then you’ll believe, “I am he,” for these things only happen to the Lord. He is born out of a tomb — he allowed himself to be entombed voluntarily. “No one takes my life, I lay it down myself, I have the power to lay it down and the power to lift it up again” — or, “I put me in the tomb, and I will rise.” And so they put him in the tomb, the human skull, and when he rises you will know, “I am he.”9011 ¶34

So he rises, and may I tell you, the sensation is one of rising from sleep — the only reason that you know it was so deep, that it was like unto death, is the location. When you find yourself in a tomb — only the dead are placed in tombs — therefore, finding yourself in the tomb of your own skull, and it’s completely sealed. However I got there I don’t remember, but whoever put me there must have thought I was dead, because I didn’t realize that I went into the place, but here I am, I’m in it, and it’s sealed, and I awaken — I’m waking in a tomb. I must now associate my state with death, but I’m not dead anymore. Then you know the words of the first chapter of the Book of Revelation: “I was dead, and I am alive forevermore, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead.”9011 ¶35

The mystery of life through death — “Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it remains alone, but if it falls into the ground and dies, it brings forth much.” So that grain of wheat was the creative power of God, called in scripture Jesus Christ, and so it penetrated the tomb, the cenotaph, the son of man, and there in that tomb it dreams the dream of life. And then comes the last scenes, these wonderful scenes as they unfold, revealing how you really are the very being that entered you, for in that day you will know that I am he.9011 ¶36

Now you dwell upon it, for I’m telling you, everyone is going to have this experience, everyone, no one can fail, because you aren’t doing it — you’re not doing it on the outside at all, while you go about your business, doing all the things on the outside, being a greater person, a wealthier person, contributing more to society — all these things are lovely, but while you’re doing these things, a work is taking place in you of which you’re totally unaware, and when that work is being completed it begins to unfold and unveil itself in a series of supernatural experiences, and one by one they unfold, and then you know, I am he.9011 ¶37

I can tell you, the first time I told the story of the crucifixion there was a strange reaction — it happened in New York City, and so the very next night was lecture night, and I told my friends what had happened that night — well, their reaction was one of, who does he think he is. That was the reaction. I wasn’t telling them that I differed from them, I was just telling them exactly what happened to me, and what happened to me I can’t conceive as something different from what has happened to you or will happen to you.9011 ¶38

And so, as I heard the voices speaking, they heard the voice, but only I heard the last expression of the voice. They heard this wonderful conversation between the woman and God, the voice of authority, but when it came to the very end, I, and I alone, heard it, and it came from the depths of my being: “I laid myself down within you to sleep, and as I slept I dreamed the dream, I dream — yes, I dream that I’m you, I’m dreaming that is me fused with me.” And you’ll understand that second chapter of the Book of Genesis: “And the Lord God caused a profound sleep to fall upon man,” and he slept — there’s not a word said in scripture where he was ever awakened, he awakes only when God — [and he told Abraham the fourth fantastic story] — and a deep, deep sleep fell upon Abraham, and he slept, and there’s no thought in scripture where Abraham, in his long, long journey, was awakened — he was dreaming, but who was dreaming? God entered death’s door with those who enter, and lay down in the very grave with the man, and dreams with them until they’re both awake, but they are two when they’re awake — when they’re awake they’re one, and you will say “I am he.”9011 ¶39

So I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. You can take this little body here and cut it up, you won’t find anything — open up the skull, you’ll find nothing in there that looks like it — and yet, in my body — I’m speaking now of my supernatural body, the eternal body, the immortal body — that’s where the drama really takes place, and these are only shadows of that body. Now, are there any questions, please?9011 ¶40

It’s a very good question.9011 ¶41

Any other questions, please?9011 ¶44

Q and A

What does it mean, “I am that I am”?9011 ¶42

Speaker

A friend of mine drove me home yesterday, and he’s a very, very serious student of the mysteries, spends much time daily, in spite of his business — hours that he must give to the business — but he works with his concordance, and he came up with an excellent interpretation of that. He said, you speak, and the Bible speaks constantly of two ages, this age and that age. So I am not only the God — I am the God of this, the world of Caesar, but that I am taking one from this level into that level. So there’s no other God. So I am that I am — also, are you speaking of an entirely different world? We can’t deny here that before man can do anything, man must first be — but that’s obvious, I am. But can I believe that when I go into an entirely different world I will confront the same I AM? Yes, under different circumstances, in an entirely different world, but you can use it here, on this level, to make it as practical as you want. We think of something whole — it seems to be detached from you. Be perfectly still and assume “I am,” until it ceases to be that and it becomes “I am.” Think of trying to take a little story of ill health or wealth. Well, there is illness, or there is wealth — I’m not feeling well and I’m not wealthy, so therefore it seems like that over there, but if I am ill I will assume “I am healthy.” Well, health seems to be other than myself, but I begin to assume it, I will draw closer and closer and closer, until I feel, “I am healthy,” or “I am wealthy.” The story of Isaac drawing his son, clothed in the garment, where he tried to deceive — “Come close, my son, come near, my son, that I may feel” — and so Jacob comes close as Esau, and finally it is not out there anymore, it is here — the secret of making it here, and then now.9011 ¶43

In the next world, will people experience that which I spoke of tonight if they have not now experienced it, and build their experience there in the flesh?9011 ¶45

Speaker

Either the so-called next world is just as solidly real and fleshly as this world — the surprise of your life is that it is just like this world. They’re not made of gossamer, they don’t go through walls as people teach — they’re just as solid as this, with all the problems they have here, and they procreate there, and they die there too, just as they die here. This is a curved play — this is only a section of the play, and so three score and ten is allotted this — all right, another is another, another section of time. You will make your exit here to find yourself not necessarily in the same month of the same year following death — you will find yourself a thousand years beyond, or a thousand years back. That would be determined by the work yet to be done in you. He began it, he’s going to complete it, and he’s not going to ask you for your permission to insert you into that field, as the eighth chapter of Romans tells us: “The creature was made subject unto futility, not willingly, but by reason of him who subjected him in hope, that the creature will be set free from this bondage to corruption and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.” So he didn’t consult me to put me in this place, didn’t consult you — we were made subject unto futility, not willingly, and that was shown me so clearly envisioned one night when I saw all these people, and they refer to this world of ours as “Woodland” — they don’t call it Earth, Woodland — and I was talking to [Hauptmann?], the great German poet, and he said, “Neville, they all speak of it as Woodland” — not one of them believed that anyone could ever come back from Woodland. Woodland to them is eternal death. And so you read the eighth chapter of the Book of Mark, and when the eye was open, he was asking, “What do you seek?” “Did I see men like trees walking?” This is like a tree, as far as they’re concerned, this is all Woodland, and there wouldn’t be my stories at all — they’d love to hear them, I told them all my stories of Earth, but they didn’t believe me any more than they believe the gospel story today. Read the twenty-eighth chapter of the Book of Acts, and he spent the entire day, from morning to evening, trying to convince them of Jesus, using as support for his argument all the arguments of scripture, and some believed what he said, and others disbelieved. Good night.9011 ¶46

Blake on Religion (Second Delivery)

William Blake was born in England in 1757, died there seventy years later in 1827. Blake never went to school, and yet today, anyone familiar with the English language — if he had to make a list of the six greatest users of the language — could not, if he’s familiar with the language, could not omit the name of Blake in any list of six. I asked that question of Aldous Huxley about five or six years ago, and he said to me, “Guess what I’ve just said to you.” No one familiar with English literature, all the way back to Chaucer, Spenser, Milton, Shakespeare — you might alter the list somewhat — but no one could omit the name of Blake in any list of six of the greatest users of the English style. And he never saw the inside of a school. He taught himself Hebrew, Greek, Italian — of course he was the master of the English tongue. He had his visions in the time he was a child, and when he died, he was still communing with the world of eternity. Really, he was singing hymns, and he said, “They’re not mine, they belong — but they’re of eternity — they’re not really mine.” He said, of religion, “I know of no other Christianity, and of no other gospel, than the liberty both of body and mind to exercise the Divine Arts of Imagination. Imagination is the real and eternal world, of which this vegetable universe is but a faint shadow, and into which we shall go, in our eternal or imaginative bodies, when these vegetable, mortal bodies are no more.”9010 ¶1

There’s no one who’s given more to this world, considering the secret of imagining, than Blake — unless, of course, you speak of the Bible. The Bible to him was pure vision from beginning to end; it was his textbook. And so he was asked, this very prominent man of the day, “Why is it that the Bible is more entertaining and instructive than any other book?” And he answered, “Is it not because it is addressed to the imagination, which is spiritual sensation, and only mediately to the understanding, or reason? For the whole Bible is pure revelation — God’s word.”9010 ¶2

He wrote what he considered the grandest poem in the world, Jerusalem. He said, “I may praise it, because I am only the secretary — its authors are in eternity.” Here, in a very short period of time, Blake completed this grand poem. He said it was dictated to him — sometimes twelve, and times twenty and thirty lines at a time — but lines at a time. So here, work that should have taken a lifetime of labor came without labor, in so short a period of time. And he starts in the beginning, and he states the theme before he allows the dictation, and the theme is stated in the very first two lines: of the Sleep of Ulro, and of the passage through eternal death, and of the awakening to eternal life. Then he said, this thing calls to me night after night in sleep, and every morn awakes me at sunrise, when I see the spirit of my Savior hovering over me, and dictating the words of this mild song — the spirit of his Savior, hovering over him, and dictating — well, twenty, thirty lines at a time. And then the dictation begins with an appeal to man: “Awake! Awake! O sleeper of the land of shadows, wake, expand! I am in you, and you in me, mutual in love divine.”9010 ¶3

Then said he, the perturbed man — a way turns down to about his dog, he can’t believe it — man imputes sin and righteousness to individuals, are not to states. You understand, Blake, you’ve got to draw a line of demarcation between the individual — your immortal you — and the state, the present stage of that individual. He said, “As the Pilgrim passes, while the country permanent remains, so men pass on, but states remain permanent forever.”9010 ¶4

So we must distinguish between the state and the individual occupying that state, to understand Blake. “It is all that you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.” And it constantly reminds the reader never to condemn any one of this world. Or, said he, “I do not consider the just or the wicked to be in a supreme state, not to be states of the sleep which the soul may fall into in its deadly dreams of good and evil.” So, “Come, Lord Jesus,” said he, “and create states to deliver man evermore.”9010 ¶5

You see, someone who is not feeding well, maybe he’s up against it financially, maybe things aren’t going as they ought to go — that’s a state. If you know the difference between the individual in that state, and of all the state — or a future state that you can create — you can lift him out of it by representing that individual to yourself as you would like to see him, and put him in that state. Do it without his knowledge, do it without his consent — you can do it, you can create a state and pull people out of horrible states into lovely states, leave them with a lovely state, and they will simply occupy it beautifully. And today will be the only state, the only real thing — what they’re in at the moment — when you pull them into it.9010 ¶6

And he shows us how to do it. He said, “I have fourfold vision” — now I a fourfold vision see, and a fourfold vision is given to me; ’tis fourfold in my supreme delight, and threefold in soft Beulah’s night, and twofold always. May God us keep from single vision and Newton’s sleep.9010 ¶7

Single vision, to him, was simply the ordinary physical sight, where this is what appears to be and nothing more. Double vision is when everything is but a symbol. I told you the story — the morning I opened up — the little girl, five years old — well, her little sister, who was three, this past year, taken to the beach by her grandmother. On the beach, or out in the sea, were piles driven into the sand, marking some boundary, and she turns to the grandmother and she said, “Grandma, look — sticks bathing.” Well, it struck the grandmother funny, and she recorded it and told me about it. But this little child, not yet fitted with the adult mind, saw sticks bathing — they were not simply piles in the sand, unsightly. After her, he rejoiced, and wished, at the moment, she saw a stick and out of that water bathing — the sticks, because, to the little mind, she endowed the sticks with animation, with something alive, and they were bathing. That’s double vision.9010 ¶8

And he speaks of it: “To my outward eye it is simply heaven, or a person along the way; or, with my inward eye, it’s an old man gray.” He looked at a flower — he saw a flower with the outer eye, and with the inner eye he saw something entirely different. Don’t you practice that? You look at something along the way, and you see it entirely differently. It is right, away to the heath, in the wild, the thorns and the thistles of the way, and they told me how they were beguiled, driven out — and then compelled to be chaste that he called it — their things were the outward eye of Ololon, and he communed with epistle, and thought, and they spoke to him and told him that they will soon be the embodiment of the suppressed longings, the normal longings, of the human heart. He communed with them, and they spoke to him. All this was double vision.9010 ¶9

Now, threefold vision — you must practice it tonight, everyone must, or should, practice it — while the little girl did that, threefold vision. See, imagine yourself in a living room with all glass walls — that’s an image. Her mother’s an image, and all that she did, she blended it and intermingled images; she married them, and then they produced offspring. The offspring was the result — in the world, the home was bought by her, her father. He did not consult the father — she simply took her mother into her confidence, and together they played the part, and then the father had a change of jobs, increased income, then he bought the home. So that is threefold vision. If I bring you into my mind’s eye and represent you to myself as I would like to see you, and persuade myself of the reality of this imaginal act of mine — that’s threefold vision. What does it imply? Good fortune for you. So I’m doing something which would imply something else — that which is implying is the offspring of my imagery. I bring you — what I imagine, an expression on your face, I listen to words coming from you where you tell me how well things are going for you — all this imagery I intermingle and blend it, and marry it, and then it produces the result I am looking for. The result is the offspring of this blending of images. Threefold vision.9010 ¶10

Fourfold vision, rather — you’ve had it or not, I do not know. I will share with you an experience I’ve had time and again. But here is what I think I’ve told you this before, but it links itself to this vision, and so I want to share it with you.9010 ¶11

Many years ago, in Beverly Hills, four in the morning, I’m on my right side, and I know what I am seeing I should not see. All my eyes opened, I should see a little tiny bureau and a picture on it, and on the wall above it just a small little picture — but I should not see what I’m seeing. I am seeing the interior of a very lush and plush hotel. I am seeing it as vividly, and more so, than I’m seeing you now. Yeah, I know, but I am — I’m on my bed, it’s in Beverly Hills, on El Camino, I’m on my right side, I can feel all this, and I should not be seeing what I’m seeing, but I am seeing it, and I can’t deny it. So, as this fourfold vision — as I walk into my image, and the image is just as real as this room — I remembered where the body was, so I returned to the body, returning to the body and once more in a horizontal position. And I am now in a vertical position — I step right into this interior, I came back and went forward, back and forth, about a dozen times. Did I say to myself, “I’m going to venture, regardless of the consequences.” I am going to venture. With that decision made, I stepped into the interior, and then it closed around me — I’m actually the occupant of the image, and the room is just as solid as this room. But I am shut out, there is no way back to Beverly Hills, and earth, and that body on the bed. Yeah, I am in an entirely different world, but the world is solid.9010 ¶12

I touch the bureau, and it’s solid. I touch the wall on the side, and I thought, well, now I’ll explore, I’m here for this purpose. So I came out of this room, as it closed around me, I came into a large passageway which led down to another hallway. I walked to the end, and then, as I got there, it was quite well lit, and I saw two ladies walking by, and as they started by, I spoke to them, and I said, “Ladies, this is the dream, you know.” And they were afraid, as any lady would be afraid of a total stranger who met them in a public hallway and told them that this is the dream. “I know you would be afraid,” and so they either thought they’re in the presence of a person, or something — but they were startled. But that world was so solid, they couldn’t go through the wall — they wished they could, but they couldn’t. It’s a real world. And I looked at it, and I noticed over my head a peculiar ornament. I had seen a similar one in North Hollywood, in a friend’s home, at the time. I asked him how does this thing remain up, and he said to me, if you look closely you will notice an almost, but not quite, an almost invisible thread, and it’s anchored to the ceiling by that almost invisible thread, and it gives the illusion of floating. It was a copper thing, very lightly done, beautiful leaves, but a very large picture. And so I thought, well, now, this is only a memory image of what I saw in Hollywood, so this I know is gossala — so I put my hand on it, and I say to the ladies, “I’ll show you, ladies,” and I really thought that when I touched it, it would disappear. As I held it, it was solidly real, just like this. I then said to myself, though never — you know exactly how this thing happened — your body is in Beverly Hills, on a bed, your wife is in that bed, it’s a double bed, that house is on El Camino, and that’s in the state of California, and California is in America. This is a dream, you know — it’s a dream. Exactly how the whole thing started: you saw, while on the bed, what you should not have seen, and you ventured, you stepped into your image, and the image became real, as real as it is now to you. So wake up. And I said to myself, “Come on, wake up.” And I actually felt myself leaking, as it were, coming to, and I’m breaking fully awake, and I’m standing in that hallway — I’m no — possibility of return, there’s no roll back. I say to myself, now, you know this is stupid, you have unfinished business on earth, you have a child not yet educated, he’s in high school and she has the ambition and the talent to go to college, and so it is unfinished business. When you’re — the more money — your wife will wake, and the body will be dead. You’ll have the performance, autopsy, because you weren’t ill, and they’re going to bring in some kind of a verdict, but whatever the verdict is, you’re dead. And here you walk, and you live in an entirely different world. They’re standing there, I shut my eyes, and as would happen to anyone else, I couldn’t see anything with my lids closed. I open my eyes, and here I’m still in this room, this hallway.9010 ¶13

I did it several times, and then I decided to try something that once before succeeded in bringing me back, and that was the sense of touch. That’s why I know, beyond all doubt, that Blake was quite right when he said imagination is spiritual sensation. So, standing vertically, I assume that my head was on a pillow. I simply assumed it, and imagined the sensation that I would feel were it true, and I could feel a pillow. I’m — strangely enough — I’m feeling a pillow. I had the sensation of being now on a horizontal level, not vertical, and then I could feel the pillow. I said to myself, “Well, at least I’m back,” but I’m cataleptic — I could not move my body, I couldn’t move any position. In about, say, twenty seconds, I could, with tremendous effort, move this little thing on my left hand. A little while later, I could move it from the elbow. As I got that motion, I pushed it out, and I thought to my wife’s body — I do — then I was back, but I could not open my lips, my eyes were actually sealed. Then, maybe another fifteen, thirty-five seconds, with tremendous effort, I got the eye open, and here are the familiar objects on the wall, the little picture on the bureau, the bureau, and I’m back. Then I can begin to move a bit, and then return to normalcy. That’s fourfold vision.9010 ¶14

And you’re seated in a chair, and you see what you didn’t see — not the familiar objects, but something entirely different. When you venture now, and step into your image — that’s what he meant. “If the spectator into these images, in his imagination, approaching them on the fiery chariot of his contemplative thought, if he could make a friend and a companion of any one of these images of wonder, then he would rise from the grave, then he would meet the Lord in the air, and then he would be happy.” That stepping into the image, and the image takes on all the qualities of reality, just as real as this room here, and you know, beyond all doubt, that nothing dies. You actually see it, then nothing passes away, that the world does not come to an end where my senses cease to register it — it continues, everything continues. And then he brought out even a little sigh, a tear, a smile — even a grain of dust passes not away, nothing passes away.9010 ¶15

But he saw the world entirely differently from the world that appears to us. I saw that world on several occasions. I pulled it and shared it with you too. He said, “Eternity exists, and all things in eternity, independent of creation, which was an act.” You know what he means — everything from the cradle to the grave that you have, a good experience, as though you saw them all in individual little moments, but they are not moving — they could be seen if you saw them from a higher dimension, the entire unfolding picture, not animated. No — he makes a statement: “When weary man enters his cave, he meets his savior in the grave. Some kind of female garment, and some are male, woven with clay — thus the sexual garment, sweet, should weave a devouring binding sheet, one dies, alas, the living and the dead, honestly, and what is made.” So, when you enter your cave — he’s speaking of the body — and you meet your savior in the grave, this is the grave, and you actually find there — one wife, my mother and my wife, my daughter, their son’s female garments. My son, my — following from male gods, but I am not a male, and they are female. When we’re a man — and he capitalizes Man — so man is above the organization of sex. Why, then, entering, he meets his savior in the grave, and then he wears around him a female or a male garment — but he is neither female nor male, he’s Man, and Man is above the organization of sex.9010 ¶16

So here, as we enter, we are seeing — and then he said, “You do not see what I see.” And then he tells us what he sees. In the furnaces — and then he tells us — was cast into the furnaces of affliction, and sealed. Well, love, to him, is love, and love is Jesus Christ, love is God — infinite love. You imagine, right, in the cave, when you enter, and there you find your savior in the grave. He said he was cast into this grave, and sealed, and he calls it furnaces of affliction. But he tells us it is for a purpose, and the purpose is to bring perfection to the individual. See, over the savior, while in the grave — and he paints so vividly these states through which you and I must pass, and pass as a group, the states remain permanent, but we pass on, because we are moving from state to state to state.9010 ¶17

So here, in this fourfold vision — and may you have it tonight — it’s a thrill, my friends, a little disturbing, when you have unfinished business, I assure you, because I didn’t want, at that moment, to leave behind a wife unprotected, a daughter uneducated. Yes, I believe I loved her, but I didn’t feel, as a husband who loves her, that it was equal to what I wanted to give her, and so I had unfinished business, and yet there was no way back. I’m in an entirely different world, and the world is just as real as this, and I knew reason telling me the body had to be discovered the next day — my body is wearing extremely — solid, but here is a body, I knew I left the body in Beverly Hills. And so I walked, I went back through feeling — I simply sensed the villain — and so when he made the statement in his letter to Dr. Trusler — is it not spiritual sensation? He said, is not the Bible addressed to that in man which is all imagination — well, I felt it, because years before that I did step into an image, I became awake in the image, as Thoreau said, reliving is to be in a dream awake. When one is in a dream awake, well, this is a dream, and then you awake in the dream, and the dream ceases to be a dream — it’s just like this. If what I did was a dream, this here is just as much — I’ll show you — for that image simply became just like this room. But once before I found myself in an image, and some object in that experience scared me, and I knew exactly how to get back, to the sense of touch, and I’d try to think, and it worked. If I find myself dreaming now, and I know I’m dreaming, I have prolonged a dream, or woke in the dream, with a sense of touch, and I find, if I hold an object that is not movable — I wouldn’t hold a cat, or a door, or even a person, but I will hold a stationary thing that is seemingly inanimate, like a table, or any inanimate fixed object — when I hold it, I then say to myself, “Come on, grab it, but don’t let go, I will not let go the object” — I’m not letting it go, I awake. I wake in the image, and the object is just as real as are you. It would be, when I obey it. So what is real to us, when you’re in the dream itself, is the dream. We speak of a dream when we wake from the dream, as subjective — as we reflect upon the experience, we say, “Oh, that was a subjective experience,” but it wasn’t subjective when you were dreaming — it was entirely objective to you, the dreamer. It’s only subjective after the experience.9010 ¶18

Well, that’s what he means by fourfold vision. He didn’t always have it — he confessed that “now I have fourfold vision see, on a fourfold vision is given to me, it is fourfold in my supreme delight,” and it is — or, when you can sit quietly in the chair, and leave behind you all the things of the day, and step right into an entirely different world, and the world is just like this, real, and people — it’s a sheer delight. Fourfold vision is what you and I are called upon to practice, to bring about changes of state for those we love.9010 ¶19

So you meet a person, and things aren’t going well — all right, it doesn’t really matter, he’s only in a state. So you represent him to yourself as other than what he appears to be, persuade yourself of the reality of that imaginal act — that’s another state altogether relative to him, he will conform to it, and you will meet, in the next day, or the next week, next month, and you will see a change in his behavior. You’re real, then, according to this blending of images in your imagination, which — union creates whatever the union implies, leading one to the conclusion that causation is simply the assemblage of mental states which, occurring, creates that which the assemblage implies. So you assemble images — what do they imply? Whatever they imply, they’re going to create. So always see that which you are going to create, something. Well, the imagery blending — if they are occurring, invariably creates what they imply. Anyone can do it, and you’re invited to try it — that’s what Blake taught.9010 ¶20

And from the time that he could breathe, he was teaching those that he met the difference between the individual and states, and begging men not to impute sin and righteousness to the individual — not to the state. He gets out of the state, and he leaves behind him all that state radiated. When he’s in a state, he seems to be the only reality; when you’re not in a state, it seems shadowy, a mere possibility, but not when you’re in it. When you step into one image, that image closes around you, it’s real — are we all together? Just like this room here — and you can train yourself to step into these images, and prove the being that you really are. You’re not confined to the little body of five senses at all — you are a man, all imagination.9010 ¶21

So when he said, “What seems to be, is, to those to whom it seems to be, and is productive of the most dreadful consequences to those to whom it seems to be” — even of despair, and eternal death. But said he, “Divine Mercy steps beyond, and redeems man, in the body of Jesus.” And so he steps right beyond, and redeems us. We can go from state to state to state, but we cannot save ourselves. Salvation is initiated by God — it is not given to us for any good deeds done, I assure you; on the other hand, it’s not given as due reward for merit, that I assure you — it is bestowed by grace alone. And, if you’re told in the scripture, why — in virtue of his own mercy, not because of anything I did, not because of anything you did — when you are salvaged from this world of states, the furnaces of affliction, bear in mind, you didn’t earn it. Not one being in the world can earn his own salvation, but it’s going to be given to him by the mercy of God, and it’s called in the scripture grace — your grace, unearned. No one could earn it.9010 ¶22

And Blake’s also clear, and told us all: in spite of all these glorious states, you could be pure in your own mind’s eye, you could be impure in the eyes of others, but whether you were just or wicked, it was not to him anything that you could brag about, because your only — you fell into a state, and found yourself in a pure state, and thought yourself so pure — the state was, I knew, the occupant activated it, you animated it, and it became real to you. I mean, if you liked it, and remained in that state. But you could easily fall into another state, a wicked state, and when you are in a state, you partake of the nature of that state, and you animate it, and make it all alive. But you’re neither wicked nor pure — you’re just immortal being, putting through — putting through the furnace, use of perfection, and you pass through all these businesses for a divine reason, to be made perfect as he is perfect. And when, in his eye, you are perfect, it brings you up. “Divine Mercy steps beyond, and redeems man in the body of Jesus.” And so all will be redeemed, because you can’t earn it, and Blake made it so clear.9010 ¶23

If you haven’t read Jerusalem, what a thrill, what a treat in store for you. There are only a hundred plates, and a plate doesn’t even run a full page, and so you could really read it in an hour easily. Onwards, maybe a little bit difficult to grasp, because he does invoke, by calling a certain attribute, Los, or Los’s imagination — that divine being that remains faithful to vision in the time of trouble. If you turn it back, it’s the sun — it really is the soul, the animating principle of everything in this world.9010 ¶24

And so, when you see through his eyes, you’ll have to experience — I have felt — we are separated in time, but we are two figures closely woven in this tapestry of life. I imagined, just about a year ago — and he showed me exactly how to fall in order to see what he describes so beautifully in Jerusalem. I stood very still, to let myself go backwards, and so I threw myself back, like a backward dive, and I came whirling through interstellar space, as though I were a medium, and when the motion was arrested and I stood still, here I’m looking at the most wonderful being, and he’s seen — as I looked at him, one being, as I came close, multitudes of nations are in that being — all races, all nations. As I look closer, their heart is like glowing brutally, but it is made up of numerous races and nations. I look still closer, and our whole body containing all races — I’m looking at myself. Here the face is my face, and yet in that one being all the races, all the nations, are contained. I’m looking right into my own face, and my heart is going like — but it contains all men, all women, all these bodies are in it. And it was Blake who showed me how to fall backwards in order to see the vision, and so I tumble backwards, just like some medium rolling yourself through space, and then arrested — that’s what I saw. So although we are parted in time — he died in 1827, and I was born in 1905 — so while we never met on earth, but in the spirit we certainly meet, and so his visions are my visions.9010 ¶25

When you say, “Eternity exists, and all things in eternity, independent of creation, which was an act” — I’ll tell you exactly what he means. One day I stepped in, in spirit, into a room — a family of four, two boys in their early twenties, and father, mother, and coming through the door is a lady bringing food to the table. Through the huge, big, last window, I could see birds in flight, I could see the ripple of the grass as the wind blew it, I could see leaves falling. The other diners didn’t attract me, but they were diners — but they didn’t attract me. The waitress attracted me, and this bowl of food that attracted me, and the other things that I’ve just mentioned. And at that moment, while I’m looking at the four of them, something in the depths of my soul knew that if I could arrest in me an activity, that I felt everything would freeze. I somehow knew it, but I tried it. I felt something gel in my head at that moment, and it gelled and froze in me — everything, the friends and the waitress, walking — walking not — and the diners dining. I can see the face now — the young lad, yes, a spoon in his hand, he was drinking soup, and he came this far with his mouth expecting it, and he couldn’t move it, and the waitress could not walk, and the bird in flight was arrested, and it couldn’t move, and the leaves falling couldn’t fall. And suddenly I’m looking at a world that is dead, everything is dead, and where was the life in it? In me. Now, a bird in flight, if arrested, should fall to the ground, if the law that we speak of, of gravity, is in operation — but the bird didn’t fall. And the leaves — all right, unless some other pressure equal to it kept it alive, or kept it afloat — but not the bird. The waitress — yes, if she doesn’t — if she is arrested, she doesn’t have to fall, but she was frozen, as though she were made of clay — they could have been made of clay. And then I released the activity that I had arrested, and I did so, each continued in their course — and the waitress walked, and he completed the action of drinking his soup, and the bird which was perfectly still went into the action of flight, and the leaves continued to fall, and once more all became animated.9010 ¶26

That’s what he meant: he — eternity, and all things in eternity, in the end of the creation, which was an activity. And so we are inserted into this dead body, as he — turned dead — and then we animate, and eventually we will come out of it with light in ourselves, or we are told, as the father has light in himself, so he’s granted the son also to have life in himself. And the purpose of it all is simply to awaken sons who have light in themselves, and not simply animated parts of the structure of the universe.9010 ¶27

One day a lady asked me concerning animals — I didn’t know the answer — she said, “Neville, what is the future evolution of the animal world? I am very fond of animals, and I hate to see them destroyed.” So, what is the future evolution of the animal? I didn’t know the answer, I could have given her some theory, but I could not speak then from experience. Two nights later, I find myself at the top of a ladder, and looking down — here is the jungle, wild beast — I mean, really wild — tiger, lion, panther, everything that is greedy, what you would call the wild beast of the jungle, and they’re in an angry mood, the whole thing is moving, snarling, stalking beasts. I am alone at the top of a ladder. At the moment, I’m a little bit apprehensive, and a little concerned for my own safety, and as I was concerned and apprehensive, that became all the more — they became all the more angry. And in the depths of myself, again I knew, as though something crystal-clear whispered — I knew that they were only externalized emotions of myself, that they’re simply born witness of my own emotions. When I lost all fear, they became docile, like house cats. Then I went further — as I would now repeat it — “I will arrest within thee the activity that makes them alive,” and once more I arrested it, and in my head — in a jail — I went down that entire ladder, they were made of clay. When I said clay, they were solid, just as though I walked into a museum, and I saw these things carved beautifully by some great sculptor — that’s what they were. And then I went back up the ladder, released this activity, and once more they came into animation, and they moved like living beasts of the jungle. So I know, we experience today, the whole vast world, as Blake said: “All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow.” And I know it, I’ve experienced it, so I tell you, if you haven’t experienced it, you’re going to — well, that’s the purpose of being here, and you will find the whole thing is within you, it’s not out there at all.9010 ¶28

I mean, if you would like me to be improved beyond what I seem to be in your eye now, and in your own mind’s eye make me all the greater — if that’s what you want, for if you want me to come back next year bringing something far deeper than this year — see me in that light, don’t do it if I consent, do it without my consent, if that’s your desire for me. If my desire for you, knowing that you will be limited, is to see you free of this limitation — without your knowledge, without your consent — I should know the difference between you and states, I should create the state I want to see you expressing this world, and put you in that state. So, right now, to see you as you would like to see yourself, and I remain faithful to that vision of you. Come back next year, you encounter you in that state, or you, rightly, or others, would like me to tell me of a transformed being that you seem to be. It works that way. All this, bear in mind the distinction between you, the immortal you, and the state you occupy, because you know you could easily fall into a state through an argument, through a headline in the paper, you can fall into it in some other way, and think you are it, all — you are the immortal being, one day will be extracted from the furnaces of affliction, and being brought out, you are one with your father, who is God, and you are healed.9010 ¶29

So Blake, to me, is a spiritual joy, one of the truly awakened gods. And when your mission — he looks like some super-terrestrial being, when you see him — a giant of a man, until you saw a giant, air — but he was radiant, a man is radiant, just completely awake among the gods. Thou wearest thy robe, as in the eighty-second psalm, “God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment.” Blake is in the midst of the gods. When I travel now — I’m leaving here, uh, Sunday — I take back my three books: one I brought just to show my friend Freeman, the other two are my constant companions — one is Blake, the other is the Bible. I’ll be flying to New York on the fifteenth of September, I’ll be carrying two books, one will be Blake, and one will be my Bible — that’s all I will be carrying, my constant companions.9010 ¶30

First of all, the joy of reading Blake, with his use of English, that fantastic use of English, all weaving in the imagination. And so, no one outside of the Bible has given to the world as much as Blake, when it comes to the secret of imagining, how to do it. And so, these four visions of his — the fourfold, the threefold, the twofold, and the single — while the single is simply any normal physical sight, where the thing is what it appears to be, and nothing more, that’s single vision, and he prayed to be saved from single vision, because everything has a meaning in God’s word. I used to sit in the park years ago with my old friend Abdullah, and if two people walked by, it had meaning, it was male and female, and therefore, if too many different birds in flight — and he gave meaning to all the moving, animated stage of God’s world, entirely different language. God is speaking every moment of time, you see, to every one of us, but we can’t see it, we do not understand the language of God — it’s all spoken in symbolism, and the birds in flight reveal something to him. He got up — and he wasn’t superstitious — he got up at a certain moment, when something passed by, he could interpret the language of God, others couldn’t, and there was reason for his getting up, as time proved. You simply moved for what reason — thereafter was an accident, but everything is meaning in this world, everything.9010 ¶31

The very beginning of the Book of John: “In the beginning was the Word” — well, the Greek word, logos, that is translated word, has the meaning “meaning.” So you could say, “In the beginning was meaning, and meaning was with God, and meaning was God.” There is a meaning, there’s a purpose, a plan behind everything in this world, and eventually you and I will understand it.9010 ¶32

I assure you, the whole vast world, if you could arrest your power now, would stand still, absolutely still. There’s only one thing outside of Blake’s — and one little passage in my book, where I try to record the experience I’ve ever seen — it was in the Apocryphal New Testament, in the Gospel of James, and here in the Book of James the words are put into the mouth of Joseph, the night of the birth of Christ, where he goes in search of a Hebrew midwife, because he wants it for his wife, and as he starts, the heaven stood still, and the shepherds tending their flock, they stood still, and the little lambs drinking stood still, and the men eating stood still, and everything was frozen, as though — and then suddenly all moved on in their course. So it’s the only recorded thing I’ve ever heard of that’s like it, in the Book of James, and you can get it — the Apocryphal New Testament, and look up the passage called “The Infant Gospels,” and look at the one under the Gospel of James. This was an experience given, as an experience of Joseph, the night that he was born, that Christ — then the heavens stood still. That’s the power that he tasted of the age to come, for that’s the power you’re going to wield in the age to come. You taste of it now, there’s glimpses of it, because you’re rising into a world completely subject to your imaginative power.9010 ¶33

So, if you haven’t read Blake, may I thank you — get a copy and read them, you may not understand in the very first moment, but reread them, I keep on rereading. First of all, for your — well, if you like English, as for the joy of reading good English, Blake — and take words and do with words what he did, and left for the world. So, two hundred years ago he made his entrance, and then, known to us, although he himself is completely unknown — and you’d mention anyone in the day when he walked the earth, and they’re completely unknown today, but Blake has become known, and he grows bigger and bigger every year, in the eyes of those who understand the literature, and those who are considered great in his day are completely — today are not. Because the king of England in those days was simply mad King George, and we only know him today because he lost — for which we are very thankful that he lost, but he lost his greatest colony, which was America, and we are very grateful he did, but he was only known for that, for his madness.9010 ¶34

While Blake was not mad, but because of his visions they called him mad, and said the man is mad, because he spoke with the mortal eyes could not see — yet the same who called him mad would read the Bible. But can you conceive of the description of God on his throne, as described in the sixth chapter of Isaiah, and he — he held — “the Lord, the most high, is sitting on his throne,” and he paints a picture — can you conceive of any cameraman photographing it? You’re about to take the words of Isaiah, because you couldn’t possibly pick some anonymous artist and have him set God on his throne, and you couldn’t take any cameraman who could photograph the vision of Isaiah. Well, once it was made, we have it in the book, and we read it all the time — all the visions recorded in the Bible could not be photographed. And so, because Blake could not photograph his own vision, he could draw them — he had the talent to draw them — but they called him mad.9010 ¶35

When he drew the flea, and he drew the flea like a man — a monstrous man, with a neck that wasn’t the neck, the head was simply stuck on. Yes, but he was trying to put over a marvelous lesson — to him, a flea is a blood-sucking insect. Well, any man who takes the life, not of another, who works no more or less than the man, really should be paid — he’s taking his blood, he doesn’t get on the man and actually suck blood, but there was a day, there’s still a day, when a man doesn’t pay what he’s worth, and yet the man is using him — that man goes home to a wife and children that need food, need to be educated, and he’s not being properly paid — isn’t he the employer a blood-sucking insect? Well, that’s the thing — I was showing that everything is man, so the little flea is only the projection of a blood-sucking man. So everyone in the world who looks at that picture — it’s a monstrous picture, and he wrote everything into it, and he said he saw the ghost of a flea, and the ghost of the flea was man, for this — nothing but man.9010 ¶36

I saw it — the animal world is simply man’s emotions being made visible. If a man arrested in him the life that makes them alive, they all stand, and they’re dead. The whole verse were — one day will be seen by you as still, and then you know the words of Blake: “Eternity exists, and all things in eternity, independent of creation, which was an act.” And so we are being molded and shaped in this fabulous world of states, by the uncreated God, where the uncreated shapes himself upon the more that is permanent. Now let us go into the silence.9010 ¶37

Good — you have questions, please. I didn’t quite hear it.9010 ¶38

Any other questions, please.9010 ¶41

Well, we’re here on Sunday morning, and that would be our last for a year, but then, you repeat, is not the last of the message, or friends, in our midst, and I think you all know it. Okay, let me ask you to please take one of his columns and read it — it gives you all the information that you will need, entering the class. Okay, thank you.9010 ¶44

Yes, my dear, I’m convinced of it, but consciousness is the one and only reality, really. But the world is fixed, it really is — faith in a dead state, but the living state is your own consciousness, and you can feel it — not just to be aware of things, you can actually feel it, and stop it, and start it. The day will come, you will stop and start everything in this world. What the next scene is going to be, I do not know — I really do not know, rather, glimpses of it, and I’ve tasted of the power of the age to be, and it’s just as well that men in this world cannot exercise their power. Well, I saw people dying, and they’re seeming to be completely independent of my perception of them, they seem to have freedom of choice, in either drinking the soup or not drinking it, the waitress — that is, the waitress coming through the door when I first came into the room — well, reason told me everything I saw was actually independent of my perception of it, but then I knew differently one second later. I knew that they had no life within themselves, that the life was in me, so I arrested that life in me, and they were dead, and this action would have been there forever, if I had not released that life in me. I came upon a scene that was animated and seemingly independent of my perception of it, but it wasn’t, because I discovered one second later that I could arrest an activity in me, and it would freeze, and it did. And I’ve heard, as I said, the bird in flight — should a bird in flight, if arrested, the motion arrested, could it not fall, if the law of gravity is true? But it didn’t. I could have held it there indefinitely, because the motion was really in me. But one night, the voice said to me — at the time I could not understand it, but the voice has never lied to me — so, in the depth of my soul, a voice is speaking: “You do not move, in waking, any more than you move on your bed in sleep — it is all a movement in mind.” Well, the movement in mind — I knew that I came to bed that night from the living room, I knew the next morning I would get out of that bed and go to the living room, I will leave the house that day and go elsewhere, and I’ve done that for all these years, and the voice is telling me, “You do not move in waking, any more than you move on your bed in sleep — it’s all a movement of mind. You only think you move when you wake, as you think you move in sleep.” Or, that you encounter, in the depths of my soul, a meditating being, and to discover that he is meditating me, and he is the reality that is causing this same emotion, or he is moving — so was the voice speaking to that depth of my soul, that is there in meditation, as you said. When he saw himself he was afraid, and he wrote the title, because he said to himself, so he is the one who is meditating me — he has a dream, and I am it. And then said, you know, I knew when he awakened I would no longer be — so still meditating, he caused eighty-nine years of seeming motion all over this world. But the being he encountered, when he was then sixty-nine years old, was there before he came from his mother’s womb, meditating him — he was dreaming of an experience in three dimensions, which he needed for increased awareness, to further his own self-realization, but he, the meditating being, was not moving. And if he was the cause of Jung’s experience of sixty-nine years and beyond, for another twenty years, where he died at eighty-nine — well, then the voice is telling me the truth. Well, the voice wasn’t speaking to this little thing here — this is the garment that I am wearing — so the voice was addressing itself to the depth of my soul: “You do not move in waking any more than you move on your bed and sleep, it’s all a movement in mind. You only think you move when you wake, as you think you do in dream.” Well, I recorded it, but I couldn’t understand the words, yet the voice is never lied to me, so these revelations can come beyond one’s capacity to fully understand them, but you will grow into the understanding, because he will give you another experience, and another experience, and finally it unravels itself, and you will see how true the voice was when you recall it. A scripture — all these things were foretold in the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament, but they were not understood, any more than they’re understood today. It took the New Testament to manifest the great secret hidden in the old, and to this day, people will not believe that it happened, but it’s all stated. But the very ones who recorded it couldn’t understand it, that themselves confessed, that the prophets sought and inquired, and asked what person or time was indicated by the spirit of Christ within them, when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the consequent glory, and they were told then it was not for their time, but for us. But they were asking, in inquiry, but no voice answered their inquiry, they couldn’t understand, but they recorded faithfully what the voice had dictated, for our days, for our time.9010 ¶40

Speaker

Yes. We are — did I move?9010 ¶42

Speaker

The depth of my soul, that being is still, unmoved, but the illusion of motion I am experiencing in three dimensions, with a garment that I’m wearing, a male garment. I have the illusion — now, when you wake in the morning from your bed, if you have a dream, deny — well, you will dream, you may not remember it, but if tomorrow morning you awake, remembering the dream, and the dream was very active, you’ll have to confess to yourself, this thing is real, you really didn’t know, did you? But while the dream lasted, it seemed so real, and you’re certainly moving, weren’t you, in the dream — but it’s recent, answers on retention, that’s our certainty. I could not have moved, because I went to bed here last night, here I am, in the same day, in the same room — so did I move? And you’re going to tell yourself, no, you didn’t, really — you just simply had a movement in mind, or the mind did it. You’ll say, “But the mind did it,” but you were close to yourself, you could be hurt in the dream, and have the sensation of pain and witness an accident — it could even be fatal in the dream, but when you wake it’s always just a dream — therefore all the movements that I experienced must have been in mind, while we wake from this dream. It’s going to be the same thing, or, even, awake one day, and this, on reflection, will be a — must agree, as tomorrow morning’s reflection on tonight’s dream. So the point is, is all that we see or seen, but a dream within a dream — Edgar Allan Poe — and he came to the conclusion, yes, it’s all that we’ve seen or seen, brought a dream within a dream. And the day will come that the one who meditated you into seeming reality will awaken from the experience which he imposed upon himself, and you will be he. But then, awake, I am reflecting on the experience that lasted, seemingly, thousands of years — by our little time, will be to him just the experience of the dream that he imposed, for depth and purpose, to simply further his own self-realization, and therefore you will know that you have moved. You will have awakened from the seemingly still stillness, dreamed of motion, and all the experiences that you and I encounter in the world of flesh and blood, and you will awaken, then, and then it will be to you like the dream of tonight will be to you tomorrow morning. But the voice will never lie to me — what I hear, it speaks with an authority, on the very depths of the soul, and you hear, and you’re simply listening, and you recall what you’ll tell, whether you understand it or not. Then comes experiences where you can’t deny the experience — the experience of seeing people stand still, with eyes arrested, and activity in me is an experience that I cannot deny, and the experience is not less vivid than the experience of today. I had a very pleasant day, I took a friend of mine to lunch today, and a friend of mine took me to dinner tonight, and they were present, wonderful meetings — well, they’re not any more real now, they’re memory images — memory image, and the lunch is a memory image, but they’re real when I experience it, but they’re not more vividly real, in my mind’s eye now, than this experience of encountering diners standing still, but I arrested an activity in me. That, too, is a memory image, but when I did it, it was as real as today’s lunch was, too. So in the end, that voice is going to prove itself true. Or I encountered myself, seated in the Lotus posture. I looked at him — there’s never been a more radiantly beautiful manner, with a character that this little Neville does not possess — it was majesty, there was strength of character, there was nobility — that face, everything that could be desired by anyone. And yet it was never — and he was completely undisturbed by my staring at him. I encountered the being that is meditating me, and it is still, and it was seated in a Lotus posture, completely unmoved by my interest and my surprise. And when he really moves, from that sleep, I will no longer be, but I agree.9010 ¶43

I AM He

The Concentration. It concentrates in us, and His name and Himself are one. We go back now to the Old Testament where the drama is unfolding. Holy. And here is the story it told us in the third chapter of the book of Exodus. It’s the conversation between Moses and God. Now when we use the word Moses or any name in scripture of this Christ, bear in mind these are not persons as you and I are persons. These are states of consciousness through which you, the immortal you, pass. And you pass until you awaken to the being that you really are.9009 ¶1

So when we speak of Moses, or we speak of Jesus Christ, we are speaking of a state of consciousness. And so, “And God said to Moses,” or Moses said to God, “And when I come to the people of Israel, and I say, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say?” And God’s sake of Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am. That is who I am.’ And say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever. And by this name I shall be known throughout all generations.”9009 ¶2

Now here is an adumbration. Here is a foreshadowing. In this state of consciousness, as the word Moses means, Moses means that which is to be born. It is the old perspective of the Egyptian verb to be born. Something is coming to birth. It has not yet been born, so Moses cannot go into the promised land. If you know the story, he remains back, and he dies, and no one knows the burial place of Moses. There is a state of consciousness that does not end. It’s a foreshadowing of that which must be born in man. So he hears us coming from without what eventually must be heard from beneath. So I hear a coming from below, a God speaking.9009 ¶3

And here the God is speaking, seemingly coming from outside of my being. And the God is saying to me, “I am. That is who I am. And say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and by this name I shall be known throughout all generations.” Eventually, that which is heard seemingly from without must be heard from within. When it is heard from within, the world will not believe in it. The world is trained, I will spell the letter, to believe in an external causation, something coming from without, as the cause of the phenomena of my life: that I am a victim of this, that, and the other; that someone else is. Call it by any name, but it’s something on the outside. Eventually, it comes within man, and what is heard in the beginning, coming from without, is now heard from within.9009 ¶4

And that is called, in Scripture, in the New Testament, Jesus Christ. The God of the Old Testament that seemingly spoke from without through his prophet now in the New speaks from within in man. So we are told in the New Testament, “Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is within you?” Well, you ask that of any Christian in the world. They are reading in their own scripture, but they do not believe. They talk and they speak of a Christ from the outside, some being who lived two thousand years ago. And they turn to him and pray to him. They stick him on the wall and cross themselves for love. That is not the God of Scripture. The God of Scripture comes from within.9009 ¶5

Eventually everything is said in the New Testament, which was an unabraded statement in the Old. You are going to experience coming from within. Now, it starts in this manner. And the woman of Samaria said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, the one who is called Christ. He will tell us all things.” And then Jesus answers—and you think Jesus is speaking from the outside. Let’s go back now to the statement: “Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is within you?” And now forget completely any Jesus Christ who is talking in history from the outside. It’s all from the inside. What originally seemed to come from the outside in man’s early stage has actually began to awaken from within. So Christ is speaking now from within, and you and I, we are the woman at the well of the barrier. This well of Jacob where the woman came to draw water. And now from within us we are hearing a voice coming from within ourselves. And it is, “I who speak to you,” and he, “I am He.” What, “I am He?” Never John, Mary, no. Your own wonderful human imagination. Your awareness of being, that is the being that is the one spoken of in the beginning of Scripture as God.9009 ¶6

God became as I am, that I may be as He is. For God actually became man, and took upon Himself the limitations of man. And in time He awakened in man as the man in whom He entered. He entered into me. He entered into you. And he in you is your own wonderful human imagination. That is I am. That is God.9009 ¶7

Now take all the I am statements in the book of John, or the gospel for that matter, but John has them all. “Unless you believe that I am he, you die in your sins.” You’re praying to a false god when you pray to something on the outside. If you pray to the true God, you appropriate that which he asks for. It’s a subjective appropriation of the objective hope. That’s how you pray. A billion people drop to their knees and pray. Well, who is listening? Who is listening when you pray? Is it not something coming from within? Do you believe in the reality of what you have seen? You are called upon to assume that you are, or that things are, as you desire them to be. So the subjective appropriation of the objective hope is frail. So, unless you believe that I am he, you die in your sins. Sin is to miss the mark. You will miss the mark in life unless you dare to appropriate that feeling and then sustain it with ease as though it were true.9009 ¶8

how no one knows but you love in faith those who know thy name says the psalmist put their trust in thee for the name is not Jehovah the name is not God the name is not Jesus the name is not Jesus Christ the name is I Am you can’t really pronounce the name I Am in Hebrew it’s in four continents Yah-peh-bal-peh He translates the soul confidence as the Lord. All right, so we give it a sign. But then if you say the Lord, you think of something on the outside. But when you say I am, you can’t think of something on the outside. How can you say I am and tell any place? You can say I am rich, I am poor. I am known, I am unknown. I am this, that, or anything else in the world. But I am is basic. It is the root of all.9009 ¶9

death is the god of scripture death is the god of whom the scripture speaks the god that no one is talking about because they put him on the outside and they pray to death which is not something that is legal and they bow before some little silly thing that man made with his hands not knowing that man himself is the temple in whom god dwells and God dwelling in man is man’s own wonderful human imagination. That is God.9009 ¶10

Now you are called upon this to put into the text. As it is in the text concerning this being, I know from experience to be true. And when you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will know that I am He. Well, how is the Son of Man lifted up? We are told in Scripture, as Moses in the desert lifted up the serpent, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. Well, that’s an adumbration. That is a foreshadowing. We are told that all the things of whom we spoke, and Moses is the state of consciousness, they were copied. They are shadows of the reality. So you copy what you saw. You saw something like a serpent move up. And you copied it. It moved up on a straight line. And so you made a copy of the reality. Now comes the reality. Will I experience that reality? Yes. I have experienced that reality. As Moses, in the wilderness, lifted up his servant, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. Well, in my own case, suddenly I was tricked into from top to bottom. This body, immediately this body, at the base of the spine was golden liquid light. And as I contemplated it, I knew it was myself. And as I contemplated it, I fused with it. And fusing with it like a fiery serpent, I ascended into my own skull.9009 ¶11

That’s the only heaven in the world. This is the heaven, into your own wonderful skull, but you are seen like a fiery serpent. For as Moses did what the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, saying, You know who the Son of Man is. And he’s called in Scripture, Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is what? Your own I Am. But who was lifted up? I Am. I went up, not another, I went up. So I know exactly what he’s talking about. So everything said of him, I have experienced. So I’m sharing with you my own experiences. These things are true, they are literally true, but they’re told in a language that is figurative. So it’s not a serpent on the outside to whom you turn that you have secured. It is a serpent in their own being.9009 ¶12

You are the being that came down into this world. You are the being that will rise up out of this world. You came down into generations and you play your part fully. And at the end you will simply ascend into regeneration. It’s for a purpose, not a thing you did in this world that was wrong to bring you down into this world. It was a challenge of God, and God came down. There’s only God in the world. There is nothing but God. God plays all the parts of the world. Every man in this world is God playing a part. And when you know it, you can see everything is yourself pushed out. and having it filled with it you can tell them exactly how this whole thing is taking place9009 ¶13

so unless you believe that I am he you’ll continue missing the marking light well now if I really believe that I am he and I have a goal in life how do I go about getting it well that would have feeding me life if you had it that would have feeding me life if you had it well dare to assume the feeling of that wish fulfilled If you dare to assume the feeling of the wishful dream, who is doing it? God is doing it. For God is I AM. So if you say I AM, you name it, even though reason denies it and your senses deny it, if you persist in that assumption, that assumption will harden into fact. This is the story of Scripture. But as long as you believe in a God outside, who looks over the entire picture, and you do not believe for one more that he actually bears with him, you have a false God.9009 ¶14

So God comes first seemingly speaking to us as one coming, some without. And so, Moses said to God, or said to God something on the outside, and then God said to Moses. But the word Moses means to be born. Here is something that is coming to birth. And when it comes to birth, he is the God who will walk within man. He can’t come to birth without man, for man is the cradle in whom God is born. This is the great manger. This is the tomb of God’s very nature. God himself entered death’s door, the human skull, and laid down in the grave for those who entered. He visions of eternity. And when the fullness of time comes, he awakes.9009 ¶15

And the one in whom he laid down awakes as God. You are not something in death’s hand. You awake as the God who entered the grave. So God so loved you, his emanations, that he actually shared with you in that tomb, the dream of life. And when the dream comes to its end, you and God, who entered this room, are one. My emanating, yes, my life, till the sleep of death is past. So God enters the human’s car, which is the grave, the only supper for the world where God is buried. That is the Golgotha, spoken of in Scripture. That is Calvary. And when God entered Calvary, the human skull, that was the incarnation of God. That was the beginning of the drama. And then he moves towards Death again, which is when you await Azog. So God becomes man at Calvary, which is called the crucifixion in scripture, that man may become God, a destiny.9009 ¶16

So, the whole thing takes place in the skull of man. And man is here for the most divine purpose in the world, to awaken as God himself, because there is only God in the world. Now, I will tell you these things before they take place, that when they do take place, you may believe, well, that I am He. It’s not a being on the outside talking to me. For if Jesus Christ, who is the Lord, is speaking, and Jesus Christ is within me, it has to take place within me. So it’s not a being on the outside talking to me and telling me as I’m talking to you. It is within me the drama is taking place. But to understand it and to write it, it is told in the form of a story. So truth embodied in a tale shall enter in at lowly doors. So you take this fantastic story, and you have to tell it in the form of a story. How would you tell it? A man talking to another man, or the man talking to the woman that’s the way. And so you tell it in the form of a story. And eventually that story told seemingly between two people that are external to each other is actually unfolding within oneself and the whole thing is taking place within one being.9009 ¶17

You are the God of survival. You are the Jesus Christ of survival. But in the beginning, in your sleep, he talks of coming from without. And eventually, he unfolds from within. And you realize that you yourself are the Lord Jesus Christ. so in the end there is only the Lord Jesus Christ but the Lord Jesus Christ is not a name, it’s your own wonderful I am that’s the Lord Jesus Christ there is no other Jesus Christ if he is with me what is the center of my own being I am can I go any place and leave it behind me, to listen to the word I am with you always even to the very age of time can you get away from being I am in a dream who is dreaming I am and who wakes in the morning I am you can’t get away from I am you can’t get away from God so God is omnipresent God is imminent he is actually indwelling and you can’t get away from God.9009 ¶18

Now, if you believe in God, you must first believe in your own wonderful human imagination. For if all things are possible to God, for then all things are possible to your own wonderful human imagination, then what does it take to make it become real in my world? Faith. Faith in God. Building faith is faith in God as Savior. But Savior is not only to save me from this ultimate which is death, but to save me from faith-seeking in the world that can punish me from which I would like to escape. No matter what it is, maybe I am poor tonight and can’t pay my rent. That is a problem. But can God save me? Yes. The ultimate would be to save me from death. But before that moment in time, there are so many things from which I could escape. I must turn to God. Well, I can’t turn to any God on the outside. I can turn to God, if I really turn to him, on the inside. He dwells on the inside. He is my own wonderful I am. My consciousness. My imagination. That is God.9009 ¶19

So if you really believe in God, then we come from that original state where he speaks seemingly from without to which means when I hear him not as another I myself experience all these things so I can say to anyone what I did is I walked within my own skull there wasn’t another who walked I came out of my own skull there wasn’t another who came out so I was born from above as told in scripture I arose from the grave or the grave was my child that was a separator with I who found the essence of all the things that I’ve ever done in this world and the essence put together and personified was a son and his name was David and said all the things I’ve ever done in eternity and I’ve played all the parts in the world at the very end when they all are gathered together and personified that is a son now I know that God is not only the power of the universe he is a father a loving father and then comes dreams in my world everything I’ve ever done at the moment sometimes it was bitter sometimes I was disgusted with the things that I did but in the end I realized it was all love. It was all love.9009 ¶20

Did you ever have a dream where you embraced one that you loved dearly? You must eat him up to embrace and then the face turns and changes and it’s the face of another you once embraced and then another and then another and then another and all of a sudden you realize all these though some turn bitter and some turn, well, horrible in your world at that moment of the invasion of love and then as you begin to awaken from it all, you realize everything in this world you’ve always been through love so we are told in scripture that God is take past love and love is not love it’s it alters, alters. If I fall in love with something and suddenly it is not what I thought I fell in love with, and then I change, that is not love, not the love of scripture. For love is not love which alters when it alterations time. And I’ve had these experiences where suddenly, basically the world said, I want love. And then in one wonderful night, you fall in love with a woman, the person around you you really love, to find that as you’re embracing her, if you be man or if you be woman embracing him, and all these things change and their faces come on the same beam, and you realize the whole vast thing you love.9009 ¶21

Even though it seems to have changed in your journey from love to hate, but in the end of the journey it is all love, and all play their part in your world, and all are forgiven in the end because it’s all love. It’s all love. I hope you’ve had it. If you haven’t had the experience, you are going to have it. So that in the end, everything is forgiven. Everything was created in love. And there’s only God in the world, and God is your own wonderful human imagination. That is God. And with God, all things are possible. Everything is possible.9009 ¶22

so in this world if you really believe God that he is easy called in the new testament Jesus Christ called in the old testament Jehovah or the Lord or God it’s the same thing but it really means I am so when I come to the people of Elysium and they say to me who says to you what is his name just say to me I am that is who I am And when they ask you for my name, just say, I am, as said to you. And this is my name forever. And by this name, I shall be known throughout all generations. But he heard it as coming from without. Eventually, he who is to be born, for that’s what the name means, Moses is to be born. When that which is within him is born, born, then comes not from without, it comes from within. And he hears it rising within himself, that I am he. And so and so to the woman of Samaria, or to any other person, I am he. You say he will come, he has come. I am he. Not a little thing called Neville, I’m speaking now of the being within us, the one being in all of us. And all will awaken to discover that he is God. There is nothing but God.9009 ¶23

And so I tell you before it takes place, that when it does take place, you may believe. Believe what? That I am he. Before Abraham I am. Or before Abraham was I Am. Put the punctuation mark where it suits you best. But before the world was I Am. Or before the world was I Am. It has no beginning, it has no end. And deliberately and purposely came down into a world of death. Everything here begins and ends. It dies. Everything dies in this world, including the stars, they’re fading. They may take a numbered light years, but they’re dying. Everything dies, and that which cannot die has no beginning or end, comes down into the world of death and conquers the last and the last enemy, which is death. You cannot die, or nothing dies.9009 ¶24

But tonight, you can put it through this screen test, in something that you can prove in this temporal world, which was vanished anyway, but you proved it. And see, the whole thing comes into this world. And I tend to have this as a thrill and this as a chore for you, your memory returns, and the long-lost language of symbolism returns with it. And things that the world has simply put aside as meaning nothing, that comes to you in the form of a dream, has the most wonderful significance in the world. That which has no significance to the world, and they’re simply eliminated, and they turn to a prolete or turn to his disciples and try to give meaning and all based upon what they call sex. I’m not denying the importance of sex in the world as generations, but every little symbol in your dreams is so important. When memory returns, everything comes back with it, and you’ll see it so clearly.9009 ¶25

Here is a simple, simple little experience. It has happened to me through the years. In the story, Joshua was being Jesus, and Jesus and Joshua is Jehovah, the same Yahweh-Bal is the root of the word. So Yahweh-Bal is the root of Jehovah, Yahweh-Bal is the root of Joshua or Jesus. and Joshua goes because Moses cannot go he is to be born Joshua which is the Lord is born so he goes into the promised land and he takes with him one and the one is Caleb well Caleb in Hebrew means the dog it also means a male child who serves the priest in the temple. But the symbol is a dog. As told us in the 22nd Psalm, the dog surrounded. Well, the word here is his companion who goes with him into the promised land. And here, whatever I’ve seen in my dreams, a dog. I’m walking with a dog. For the dog is in the hand of another. And when the dog defecate. Right before me, in a generous manner, I’ve always known that a very large sum of money will come to me. They did defecate twice before. It comes so soon, I’m not even up to the speed.9009 ¶26

Now, it doesn’t make sense to the world. Well, yesterday morning, I woke I was having this wonderful experience and here was a dog. It began as some other kind of an animal and finally became a dog. And as the person leading it turned it right on the side of the horse, it defecated in a generous amount. walked a foot or two and repeated the act. For scripture tells us that if a decision repeats itself, it means that the thing has been fixed by God and it will shortly come to pass.9009 ¶27

Well, I was alone at 8.15. I thought now this is the time I was shaved and bathed. My head was under the shower and I was taking the shampoo. And I heard that there’s a dog in our apartment. I don’t own a dog, but my daughter has a dog and she leaves it with me four days a week. Well, it so happened yesterday was the day that she left the dog with me. He’s barking like mad and it’s only about 8.15. I said, who on earth could be disturbing the dog? I came to a full of shampoo and I got that out. I threw a robe open and went to the front door and here is the postman on the outside. He was just about to leave when I saw him and then I opened the door and he stuck a letter through the special edifice. I had no time at all then so I threw it on the table and got and completed my shampoo and completed my chores for the morning. When I came out, I opened the letter and my brother sent me a check for $2,500. It’s not a dividend check. Just sent me a check for $2,500.9009 ¶28

Now here the world would laugh at a thing like this. But see, when you awaken from the dream of life, memory returns. And with the names, the language of symbolism became. And all beings are symbols, telling you the most fantastic story in the world. And here was the theme. And here it was so the defecation took place twice, the defecated twice, which means it was shortly come to pass. It came so shortly I almost missed it. There I am with my head full of shampoo and here he’s ringing the bell which I would not have heard were it not for the dog. And the dog is walking as someone who is ringing the doorbell because under the shower I could never have heard if he only rang the doorbell. But the dog is barking. I wonder what on earth is Tandy doing? For his name, by the way, is Tandy. And so I went out and I wondered, what are you doing? And here is Miss Postman, taking this scene. And I also apologize to my appearance, for I was full of water and glitter all over me, and he gave me a check.9009 ¶29

Now here is the thing, it was not a dividend check. It was not something doomed at all. Just send me. Now, I tell you, this is how the law operates in this world. It’s a fantastic thing. It all is from one source. There is only God in the world. There is nothing but God. God speaks to man through the medium of dreams. When man doesn’t understand the language of God because he’s not yet awakened to the language of God, one day he will awaken from the dream of life and every little thing simple in the world will have meaning.9009 ¶30

To the other person, that would be a most offensive thing to watch. You walk down the street and some lady, instead of curbing the dog, allows it to use the sidewalk and you’ve got to step over it and you’re offended. And everything here also is a dream, but people don’t realize it. Everything here is really a symbol. Every one of the worlds is a symbol. The whole vast world is a symbol, screaming at it from the outside. One day you’ll understand it from the inside.9009 ¶31

And so I am he. When I tell you it’s not a man standing on a platform, bearing that he is the one, I am telling you, you one day will know that I am, meaning yourself, I am he. I’ve heard it come to you as one from without. And so he heard the voice as one coming from without, saying, say unto them, I am. has sent me to you. And this is my name forever to be known throughout all generations. But you shall not enter, for you are not yet born. For Moses means to be born. So he cannot go into this world. For the thing that goes in in faith of Moses is Joshua. And the word Joshua is the Hebraic form of Jesus. And Jesus and Joshua were saying in the book of Jehovah. The same root is Yod-Heh-Vav. Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh would be the four continents, and they have Yod-Heh-Vav-Shenayim. It’s the same root form, meaning salvation. Jehovah says Jehovah is salvation.9009 ¶32

But as long as you hear it as something coming from without, you don’t really believe it. But if you can begin now, before you are born, to believe in the name, and those who believe in thy name put their trust in thee. If I put my trust in thee even before I am born, it will work. But I must know who he is. And who is he? My own wonderful human imagination. That is God. If I could believe that my imaginal act is a fact, I’m vain to stay in a sense without effort, just as though it were fact.9009 ¶33

I called a friend of mine on the telephone, and I spoke I heard what he said. And I believe what he said. Well now this is the same matter. You treat it just as lightly as that, with faith. Faith in the reality of the unseen state. If I really believe it, that subjective assumption, that subjective appropriation of the objective hope, and walk with the word of truth, it will come to pass. It will all come to pass. This is what I’m talking about. Morning, noon and night.9009 ¶34

Now the world will not believe it. And may I tell you, I know that eventually they are going to believe it. So really I’m not distressed. I’m not breaking any drug vessels to compel them to believe it because I really don’t care. Because I am convinced eventually everyone will believe in God. And the God of Israel is the only God. But that God comes to its fulfillment in man, in the New Testament. The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. There’s only one. Here is the tree, and here is the fruit. So the New Testament fulfills it, but the New Testament, as understood by one billion who call themselves Christians, they don’t understand it at all. They still do the same external worship of the old world, and they believe that that makes them a Christian by attending mass or attending service, by contributing to their church. But these are lovely things. If you want to do it, they’ll be alright. Nothing wrong about it, but that is not what the Bible is talking about. The Bible is telling you of the most fantastic thing in the world, that God became man, that man may become God.9009 ¶35

And Calvary begins it. Calvary is crucifixion. It’s not the end of the drama, it’s the beginning of the drama. And you and I have already been crucified, that’s right. Or we couldn’t even breathe. The very moment you breathe as a child, that was the death of God. The very first breath that a child takes and it’s closed with little lungs and cries, that’s the death of God. and that was the life of man. Man lived through the death of God. That’s the crucifixion, the issue of the crucifixion. Forget the little cross of wood, forget all the little things your thoughts is told about. The death of God is the birth of a child. That’s when God died, and the breath was his life, and the breath was God. For the word and the word being are the same in both Hebrew and Greek. So the very death when the child breathes for the first time, that was the death of God. His complete and utter forgetfulness in his God and the living of man.9009 ¶36

And then he’s moving towards Bethlehem, and Bethlehem is then the awakening of God who had died to make that child alive. So Calvary begins the drama, and Beth became his new wisdom in man, man as God. So when he awakens, who awakens? I. And who is experiencing? I am. And Beth became Beth God’s name. You try it tonight, and you will realize that I am telling you the truth. So I tell you before it takes place, that when it does take place, you may believe. Believe what? That I am He. And all the things said, you are going to prove. Because I am the light of the world.9009 ¶37

May I tell you that it’s true? One night, in 1926 it was, or 27, I was in New York at the Larchmont Shore Club. I was either 21 or 22, for I was born in 1905. And there was a huge big dance going on. Now that was the day of prohibition. But prohibition was only a name. Because there’s as much liquor serving then as there is today. If you knew where to get it, you could get it. And so there’s all kinds of liquor. But this was a dance for the young people. Well, I was only 21 or 22. But I was the guest of the assistant manager of the club. And he didn’t think that I, his guest, should mingle with the guests and the members of the club. That would be inappropriate, because that was simply not quite the thing that he thought to be. For I was simply his guest, and he was only an assistant manager, and these were simply the members of the club, and I should mingle with the members, or their guests.9009 ¶38

So I went to bed and I did something that I rarely do. I raced in bed. And I had this book. It was a book on the life of Buddha. And here I’m reading the book, I have the light on, and the music is playing, and I longed to dance all through the night. For I was a professional dancer. I would not have gone downstairs with my nice partner, who was my wife’s friend’s daughter, who in body and soul will be king. And I would have loved to have gone downstairs with him, but he thought it unwise for his position to have me do it. So I sat in bed, and I reclined, reading the book, and the next thing I knew, it’s about nine in the morning.9009 ¶39

The light is still burning, it has been my day. The thunder music is over. Everything is still. And here I am at nine in the morning with the book sat on my chest, which means I did not turn in the course of the evening. I fell into a trance, a cataleptic state. Though the book is still open on my chest, the light is on and it’s now nine in the morning. I must have fallen off about ten that night. So here almost 12 hours of a catalytic phase. And in that interval I was infinite light. There was no star. There was nothing but infinite pulsing living light. Nothing but light. And here I am, the thinker without the comfort, being full of life, living, half in life.9009 ¶40

So when you’re told in scripture, he who speaks from within, I am the light of the world, I know that from experience. And the world is simply my emanation. Yet my life till the sleep of death is passed. So the whole vast world is your self for sure. The day will come you will know from experience you are the light of the world. Everything said in that picture is true, little is true. But when you read it the words are figurative. And if I’m quite honest with you, how could you be the light of the world? For our little sun is only a tiny little part of the infinity of light. It is brought by all the other great suns and their constellations. And yet, I know for sure that you take the whole vast infinite world of suns and their constellations. And this light, fanning, fanning, all, contains all and gets it all, rather than us. It’s only light. living wonderful pouncing life without circumference and you the center and the center is I so you are the God of scripture and to really understand the God of scripture you must understand his name and his name is concentrated in you Thank you.9009 ¶41

The True Freedom

So I think you all know that today is Lincoln’s birthday. And here we celebrate the day of one who is supposed to feed the slaves of our land. On Monday we will celebrate the birthday of one who will feed us all, including the slaves, from British church or control. And yet today, after these many, many years, we find the entire nation rising up demanding freedom. Freedom now. Freedom now. You see all these scholars and their demonstrations. And that goes not only for the minority group, but for the entire country. They want freedom.1228 ¶1

Well, the freedom sought by worldly men where they seek exemption from all external restraints can be realized only by union with that pattern man who achieve full and complete freedom. Without union with that pattern man, there is no freedom. No matter how they scream for it, and they’re all screaming for it, they will not find it. They will not get it until union with the pattern man. For freedom is the gift which he, by union with him, bestows upon his brother. And there is no other way out. Of the made.1228 ¶2

So you and I are blessed at this moment because we are on the verge. If we have not received union with him, we are on the verge of receiving union with the risen Lord. There are those today who are only starting the game. For the game is from innocence through experience to freedom.1228 ¶3

For innocence is simply defined as lack of the equation of good and evil. They can’t discriminate. Lack of any understanding of good and evil. You see it today in our midst, where a girl, white pigment, in spite of all the so-called evolutionists, who cannot discriminate between good and evil. She could murder eight people in cold blood, cut them into pieces when they flee for mercy, and beg to be spared. And she said, but she didn’t do wrong. Whatever she did, it was right. If she did it, it was right. No concept of good and evil. She only begins the journey now. And yet she’s in a garment, white skin, long, long, trade hair, not kinky. And people think she is an evolution out of the dark skin. What nonsense. Here is a child beginning the journey. She has the slightest concept of good and evil. She has thousands of years of a journey before her, where she has to go through the furnaces and experience all the things that you have experienced.1228 ¶4

But in the end, as we are told so beautifully by Blake, whom God afflicts for secret ends, he comforts and heals and calls you friends. So in the end, she will be redeemed. She will have union with the this man, the pattern man. And she will experience the entire story as told us in the gospel.1228 ¶5

So when today they’re all demanding freedom, demanding this, demanding that, they will never know what freedom really is until they have union with the pattern man. And when that pattern is by taking a seal and impressing it upon wax prepared to receive the impression. And so when he embraces you, or in whatever form you have union with him, he leaves his inbred upon you, just like the seal upon wax or clay. And then that inbred unfolds within you. As it unfolds within you, you are set free.1228 ¶6

And you aren’t really set free until you find the sun. For the sun makes you free. You are free. Indeed, whose son are you, young man? Go find out whose son that youth is. For I want to find his father. And so the son one day is found, and he stands before you, and you know without any uncertainty he is your son. And he knows you are his father. Then you are free. Free indeed.1228 ¶7

So it doesn’t really matter what happens thereafter. But it starts from plain innocence, where a complete lack of any equations of good and evil. Then we pass through experience. Well, experience is actually living, living through something, so that we now know it firsthand, rather than by hearsay.1228 ¶8

We all live through that experience last Tuesday morning. Now, our planes called us. We had 12 calls from the east, New York, Cincinnati, Jersey, and so on, to ask about us. Well, we didn’t tell them. Nothing happened. A few things were broken, not much. No damage to the house. A couple of pieces of china, a few badges, and, of course, the things that fell off the walls of all of us and bags. But there’s really no damage. But we had the experience of the shake, and we all had it. I can tell them. But that’s hearsay, as far as they’re concerned. We have experience. They only know it from hearsay.1228 ¶9

So experience is something that one has to live through. To experience is to actually live through something so that you have a first-hand knowledge of it rather than have someone tell you about it so that your knowledge of it is only hearsay. You’re not a witness if it’s hearsay.1228 ¶10

And freedom is simply liberating the slave. It really is self-realization. It is a complete self-fulfillment in a spiritual sense. When I speak of self-realization, I’m not speaking of any organization that calls itself a self-realization. I’m speaking about actual self-realization. When you discover who you are, and you will never in eternity discover who you are until the sun stands before you. And then you know who you are. And then you are set free.1228 ¶11

For bear in mind, it was God who was crucified. It was God who was buried. It was God who rose from the dead. It was God who was born to abound. It was God who found David. And it was God David called. It was God whose body was flicked in two from top to bottom and it was God who ascended into heaven like a fiery serpent. And it was God on whom the dove descended. There is only God in the world.1228 ¶12

So when we go back into scripture and the journey begins in the third chapter of Genesis and we read the story of the serpent and the serpent is asking a question of me. Did God tell you that you should not eat of the trees of the garden? And he said, no, that I should not eat of the tree in the midst of the garden, but all the other trees. Did he tell you that you would die? He told you, you will not die. But if you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will know good and evil. You will become a god, knowing good and evil. If you eat of it. And it seemed good to her to eat of it. So she ate of it. And then had the experience of good and evil.1228 ¶13

If you look at the definition of the word serpent, it is defined as to learn from experience. It is in your concordance, if it’s a good one. I am quoting from James Strong’s concordance. It’s a different word from another serpent used in scripture. This serpent is to learn from experience. There’s no other way to learn it. The other time the word serpent appears, it is the seraph, the seraphim, which means a fiery being, a being set on fire. That’s when you ascend into heaven. That’s the fiery being that comes up.1228 ¶14

The entire Old Testament is nothing more than a shadow. It is an adoration. The foreshadowing of things to come. The New Testament is an active parable, is a story told, leaving the one who hears it to discover its specific character, and then learn its message, and either accept it or reject it. So, the story told of Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ is the pattern man. It’s an actual pattern.1228 ¶15

And when in one, and Paul implies, If he ever wrote that first letter to Timothy, some scholars question that he wrote it. But Paul is not a person. Paul is a state of consciousness. Whoever wrote it is talking about Paul. That’s the state. And he tells you that I am the former. It was first in me that the example was set forth. And here he tells you, but he doesn’t spell it out. It’s actual pattern. But it tells us that it was in him, he was the foremost in which this pattern, this example, he used the word example, but the King James Version uses the word pattern. I prefer that. While the Revised Standard Version uses the word example. In him was the first area. Nevertheless, I live, and the life I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.1228 ¶16

So I am alive by certain sacrifice with God, because God and the Son are one in this sense. So here, I am that Son, because it’s all the Son to form God. And we, the sons, came down into this world. And here I am, crucified on this garment, the only cross that God ever wore. I am buried in the tomb of this garment. And in that tomb, as told me in the eighth chapter of Ezekiel, I have made all what Horrible images I have engraved upon the interior of that tomb.1228 ¶17

If you read the 8th chapter of Ezekiel, and it says to the Son of Man, Son of Man, make a hole. So I made a hole. No one can see but the elders. Give up all. One day, the whole thing is all. To be liberate.1228 ¶18

Heaven and earth cannot be witnesses to these things who are teasing. So this little thing knows what he’s talking. He didn’t believe. And then he gives his name and all the little degrees behind. the same and he teaches over and yet i knew as i looked at them i enjoyed a measure of freedom for there they were if one smile also one day all day been sucked before into a world and started and he did it through with this your burden with everything who rose who came out and you would not know all the dogs of the world about death terrible death but you and i came down and experienced death we go back wildest dream. Be a victim. Finally got saved.1228 ¶19

So guess where you are? Don’t come in here because you can’t walk as you know you can’t walk.1228 ¶20

Only one day will be to call myself a Mexican-American or a black American or a white American. And so I am, by adoption, I’m an American. Equal with anyone born here. Without the garment that I wear.1228 ¶21

So when all these call themselves by this name, a Japanese-American, a Chinese-American, a Mexican-American, I can’t see why. Why don’t we drop the little hyphenation and just simply be enlightened?1228 ¶22

And then find this wonderful story concerning the only one that can set you free. And keep him beyond all things. And don’t substitute some little thing for him. The whole vast world has substituted these, a worshipful image. They’ve made all kinds of images and they worship it. Instead of speaking of all things, this eternal word. which is only a pattern.1228 ¶23

Now let us go into the science.1228 ¶24
