He taught astrology to his friend Norma Carpenter, a retired Scranton teacher living in a hotel; she confidently predicted a man's good fortune from a chart she had mistakenly erected from the wrong ephemeris page, ten years before he was born, and that night a Western Union messenger delivered his hundred-dollar check anyway.
