Neville recounts reading, many years ago, a story about famous theatrical mothers and their sons, including Milton Berle's mother, who joined the boys' ball games and insisted her son was the star.

Neville says that as the Risen Lord he appears to people according to their needs, and that a woman present at this lecture, who still believes in an historical Christ, saw him crucified on a cross so that she would believe him.

A friend telephoned Neville to thank him for helping sell her long-empty house in Highland Park; he had only imagined hearing her tell him the house was sold, and a man came to the door and bought it within two weeks.

The night before the lecture a friend of his, Verne, told him a story he had been told at a bar; Neville invited him onto the platform to tell it and afterwards asked him to write it down so he could share it when he went back south.

Neville describes reading in the day's paper, lifted from a magazine cover story written by her secretary, that a former first lady sold her father-in-law's wedding gift and jewels from foreign gifts to buy a finer diamond, and wonders how Joe Kennedy feels seeing it in print.

Neville had a dear friend to lunch that day — a woman born Mormon whose parents had her married by proxy to a deceased Mormon to save her soul, and who is now a Christian Science practitioner; she told him he frightens her by taking away her traditional Jesus, and her two intended questions became two hundred.

Eight months ago the same poor friend telephoned and asked Neville to hear that she had ten million dollars; he did so; six months later her brother came into a hundred-million-dollar estate, and last week she called to say two elderly ladies of her husband's little church revealed they were millionaires, paid off the mortgage on the church and home, bought her a new car and set up a thousand-dollar-a-month trust fund for her.
