Neville reads a letter from a woman who, ten years after first hearing him, had a vision from the top of the highest mountain in the universe in which bursts of light appeared which she knew to be Paul and then Neville, followed by a shower of golden needles penetrating her brain.

A friend of Neville's, Jan, left a letter in his box last Saturday while he was away, telling how in April 1966 she went to Pittsburgh and taught revision to her friend Betty and Betty's deaf husband Matt; Betty heard nightly for a year and a half the words 'Betty, I can hear', and after an attack of ear pain and a doctor's drops Matt woke hearing and came home early saying exactly those words.

Neville received a letter from a woman describing a vision in which he summoned a group of his students, told them 'I am to die. I must die,' vanished, and word came that he had died — and the group was ecstatically happy.

A woman named Sharon, present at the lecture, tells Neville a vision in which she woke to heavenly music from a ball of light containing a child's skeleton playing the piano, her father confirmed he heard and saw it, and on reaching Neville's home she found his living room to be a garden where he stood clothed in a body of love, watering flowers for his sleeping wife Bill.

Before coming out to lecture Neville received a phone call from his friend Natalie, who is flying to Mexico that night to be married the next day; he recounts how he had repeatedly to "jack her up" from the platform because she kept forgetting to live in the end.
