A friend named Marta saw Neville's transformed body clothed in power, recognising his earthly face in it, and departed this world a month or two later, two years ago while he was in San Francisco.

Neville tells of his friend Marta's death on 19 July and of the vision another friend had within a week of it, in which Marta stood in an inverted heart-shaped cage divided from an enormous ringed serpent and asked how long until they became one.

A woman friend wrote to Neville that she woke with no memory of a dream but found the words ‘Neville, surgeon, operation’ on her note pad, as their friend Marta had experienced; a later dream of holding a grooved pole in a surging sea and carrying it home, then lifting a child in a bubble bath whose father was named Robert, which Neville interprets as the rod of Isaiah.

Neville's friend Marta, returning from the Laguna Art Festival with three others, stopped at a Mexican restaurant, took a cigarette, said she had a strange feeling and died at the table; she then found herself in a vast glass-fronted hall where Neville stepped from a self-propelled carriage in an Inverness cape, proclaimed the power of God, and she said to herself “He is Neville and he is God.”

Marge, the lady who was with Marta, had a vision of Neville standing on a beach with his back to an endless body of water, addressing an enormous crowd of every faith who each heard him in their own tongue, and she knew he was both Neville and Jesus.

Six months before her death Marta had a vision in which a self-propelled carriage drew up, Neville stepped out clothed in sheer power, and she repeated to herself that he was Neville and he was God; she wrote it down and told him she had no doubt of it.

A second lady wrote of a series of three dreams two days later, in which Neville taught the group a wholly new language, then helped them use it, then told them 'I must die to the flesh in order to live in you' — the dreamers being separate in the first dream, linked in the second, and one in the third.

Neville received a letter from a woman describing a vision in which he summoned a group of his students, told them 'I am to die. I must die,' vanished, and word came that he had died — and the group was ecstatically happy.

A woman told Neville a vision in which she and Marta, at a military drill, were called forward by Neville in a long black robe who gave them each a black umbrella and spoke profound words neither understood, until Dorothy Dix entered and offered to explain; Neville reads the black as the incomprehensible divine silence and says the vision was prompted by a conversation the woman had with a friend after his last lecture about waiting thirty years.

A friend who had attended his meeting the night before in Los Angeles died suddenly that day in a little Mexican restaurant in Laguna, and he says he has no tears for her because she was born from above.

As the audience fell away Neville, who never drove, owned a car, or held a driver's license (nor did his wife), had his wife ask Barry at the ticket table to drive them home; Barry was so honored he washed the car.
