An elderly Scotsman Neville met while visiting London in 1925. He told Neville that his attitude of mind determined his life — that he need not be enslaved by life but could control his future by his present thinking — and, seeing his interest, gave him some twenty or thirty books. Neville names him only as 'an old Scotsman'. The corpus may already know him as the father of the Matthew of hist_event 741 ('The Scotsman's son Matthew rejects mysticism'); that identification is not made here.
