A student of two years' standing wrote to him: having fallen in love with the lights of Budapest in 1933 he bought a Southern California hillside for its view, and when a neighbour's poplar trees grew to block it he used Neville's 'I remember when' technique for a week — the trees died and were removed; he then imagined his cat clawing a mat outside, and in three days a fifteen-year-old habit of tearing his rugs was broken for good.
