A man wrote Neville the same dream three times - driving his wife's car off a mountain road with his hair on fire, jumping out and floating down like a snowflake - and on the third occasion he woke inside the dream; Neville interprets it from the platform as a change of state, not a departure from this world.

A friend of his in San Francisco, who had pledged since boyhood never to give a panhandler a dollar, met an unemployed man asking for a meal and, because he now knows this teaching, stopped on the street and imagined the man gainfully employed instead of walking by.
