During this lecture Neville points out a gentleman in the audience who had written him a letter the previous Saturday, describing a mystical experience of his own that he dated to 1940 -- a year before Neville's comparable experience in 1941, when, crossing the Caribbean by freighter from Port-of-Spain to Mobile, Alabama, he was 'lifted up' and heard a heavenly chorus singing 'Neville is risen'. Neville remarks that the correspondent looked no older than his own son, who would turn 39 that May, despite having had his experience even earlier than Neville's own.

A man present in the audience wrote Neville a letter the previous Saturday describing his own resurrection experience in 1940, when as a teenage scoutmaster he went to bed pleased with the boys' accomplishments and was lifted on high and heard the heavenly chorus — using the pronoun "he" rather than a name.

Neville read in that morning's newspaper of a man who died suddenly leaving hundreds of millions behind him.

A woman unfamiliar to Neville, referred by someone else but not understanding his method, came to see him wanting to find a friend she had not seen in over a year. He told her simply to sit and mentally tell him she had already found her friend, while he did the same in imagination. Deeply skeptical throughout, she nonetheless followed a trail of leads -- to Hartford, then to Boston, where she learned her friend had moved on without leaving a forwarding address -- before returning to New York and, despite having 'no faith whatsoever' in the exercise, eventually finding her.

A long-time friend telephoned Neville on the day of the lecture; his wife answered, and when she said they were pleased with Vicki's report the friend replied that he wished he could say he was pleased about anything of his own — an example of a man stuck in the state of self-pity whom Neville has pulled out countless times.
