A San Francisco businessman, Bill Donovan, told Neville in person how his hatred of Jews and Negroes was destroyed when a Jewish private saved his company in New Guinea and a Negro worker saved his life from a factory fire.

A grandmother wrote that, travelling to Australia, she sent her two-year-old granddaughter a polar bear instead of the requested stuffed kangaroo; the child refused the bear and forty-eight hours later a stuffed kangaroo she had never bought arrived for the girl.

About a year after she had first asked Neville, without her husband's knowledge, to help him succeed as a lawyer, this lady returned to New York last month and this time brought her husband to meet Neville in person, no longer reluctant as before. In the intervening year her husband's salary had risen from $87 to $300 a week at his law firm, and he told Neville he believed he had the qualifications to become a judge. Neville credits the wife's vivid and persistent imagining, not the husband's own effort, for the change.

Just back from New York City, he recounts how a lady came from Baltimore to a Wednesday-evening meeting last month to tell him that a friend in her office, whose purse and treasured bracelet vanished in July, had imagined wearing the bracelet daily after being given a set of Neville's books, and the purse turned up in October behind a fitting a fireman pulled from the wall during a safety inspection, with the bracelet intact and only the $1.35 change missing.

A woman told Neville a year earlier that her forty-year-old lawyer husband earned only eighty-seven dollars a week and asked whether she could use the technique on him without his knowledge; Neville told her to treble it, and last month in New York she brought the husband, now earning $300 a week, and asked Neville to help make him a judge — he told her to have her servants always refer to him as 'the judge.'

Neville tells of a friend of one of his regular listeners whose purse -- holding only $1.35 in lunch money but also a bracelet she valued both sentimentally and monetarily -- disappeared from her office one July, despite a thorough search. On the listener's advice, and after receiving a full set of Neville's books, the friend simply imagined daily that she was already wearing the bracelet. On a Tuesday in October, while firemen were in the office assessing structural safety changes, one of them pulled out a fixture and found the missing purse behind it -- the bracelet still inside, with only the small $1.35 change purse gone.

A woman wrote to Neville describing how her husband, a carpenter taken on temporarily by the Los Angeles school system, refused to imagine a permanent position, and when reminded of what he had imagined became angry, and she inwardly heard him say he was asleep and did not want to be awakened.

This week he had telephone calls and a lovely letter from a friend now living down the coast whose job changed completely, everything he had done before fitting him for it; and a telephone call the same day from another friend of about the same age who had despaired of a job and now has a far bigger one in this city — both by the application of the principle.

A woman not present tonight told Neville that ten days before Kennedy was assassinated she saw the headline of it, on the same coloured paper it came out on.

A woman present at the lecture told Neville her dream: after Kennedy's assassination she rode in a car with Kennedy over water, said she always walks on water, then in a second dream had her hand inside Robert Kennedy's head moulding his brain, saying she was changing the order of the day and would take him to the potter's house, and deciding to call him not Bobby but Robert.

He recounts two women and the shooting of Kennedy: one saw the complete headline “Kennedy Shot” ten days before it happened and forgot within seconds, only recalling it when the newspaper page was placed before her; another warned the authorities and was not listened to.

Neville reads out a letter from a friend who imagined his barber at the top of his profession; within a year the barber owned the shop, and after a further imaginal act he and two colleagues came back from a San Francisco styling contest with four of the nine trophies, the friend now predicting further wins in Southern California, Miami and Brussels.

The same correspondent met his son's twelve-year-old friend Gary selling mistletoe without success, then imagined hearing his son say Gary sold all the mistletoe at a fourteen-dollar profit — and two days before Christmas his son reported exactly that.

Just before taking the platform for this lecture, a woman told Neville of her first-ever vision, which had come to her within the preceding twenty-four hours: a voice spoke to her saying, 'Most people can't part with what they don't want long enough to get what they do want,' and she rose in the middle of the night to write it down. Neville uses her account to illustrate that those drawn to hear him are already among the minority unwilling to settle for less than what they truly want.
