At a San Francisco meeting a woman heard him, went home and for a week imagined the doorbell ringing and embracing her court-martialed brother; a week later he was honorably discharged and came home, and she rose in his audience of a thousand to tell it.

Lawrence, the youngest of the three brothers present at the vision, died a few years afterwards — after the event, having seen the Lord's anointed — while the two elder brothers are still alive and preoccupied with making money.

Another woman told Neville how, exhausted at one in the morning after doing her husband's books and then the dishes in tears, she imagined a state opposite to her problems, and then saw a vast landscape of mountains and trees unfold in the dark room, every change in her mental activity altering the outer scene.

The same friend who dreamed of the pole and the serpent told Neville that, feeling unqualified, he imagined earning twice his salary, was contacted for an interview within two weeks, was urged to take a post paying more than double, and found he had been recommended by a former employee who had disliked him.

The same friend told Neville he was torn about leaving a kind employer, decided to injure no one and simply imagine a better job at $20,000 a year; two weeks later he was interviewed, the job was pressed on him, and the man who recommended him was a former subordinate who had hated him.

Neville's friend Benny told him that on a Friday morning he woke cataleptic, unable to open his eyes, heard an unearthly wind and the cry of a child in his skull, and a star burst from his head which became an infant in swaddling clothes that he held and called 'my darling', leaving him with a photograph of the child.

A woman gave Neville a letter after a Friday night lecture describing how, the previous Monday, his face appeared to her throughout the lecture as an ancient Chinese philosopher, and how seven years earlier in a psychic experience that same ancient Chinese in a white garment had led her to a cave and broken a cocoon which she knew was herself on a peak of granite; Neville connects it to what Abdullah told him in 1931 about a life in China, which he himself cannot remember.

Neville recounts a woman's vision of ten years ago on the Mount of Transfiguration in which two lights broke through the clouds and she named one 'Paul' and the multicoloured living one 'Neville'; a friend of his who recently had her inner ear opened heard a voice claiming 'That wasn't Neville, that was I', which Neville uses as his lesson on testing the spirit.

In New York years ago he taught astrology to Norma, a retired Scranton schoolteacher living at Broadway and 72nd; she drew the wrong chart from a wind-blown Ephemeris, read it with total conviction, and the client wired her the promised $100 while Neville was present — yet she remained a professional astrologer, with Metropolitan Opera singers as clients, until she died.

A friend in England wrote him about a dream in which he entered a plush eating establishment four times by different doors and the maitre d' greeted him each time as "Lord So-and-So", and finally, seeing through his disguise, told the waiter "That really is the Lord."

He mentions a second letter received that day, from a friend present in the audience, describing an experience of moving into the kingdom of heaven, which he will treat at a later meeting.

Two years ago, at dinner after a meeting in San Francisco, a surgeon who had spent three years at the Mayo Clinic told him that ten percent of all autopsies show no physical cause of death, and recounted a prominent man who sat up after five hours and said "The veil is thinner than you think", and a woman who sat up, said "I'm dead", and was.

Last Tuesday night a man in his audience showed Neville a $10,000 check, and afterwards wrote him a letter explaining that he had revised an irritated client couple in his imagination, and that on his next call a visiting couple from Palm Springs became new investors.

Yesterday Neville received a letter from his friend Betty in Boston, who had been told by a psychiatrist, principal and teacher that her nine-year-old son was hopelessly backward, and who instead imagined him graduating from college; at eleven his Boston teacher promised him straight A's.

Neville tells of his old friend Abdullah, an Ethiopian-born Jew and strict vegetarian of over forty years who had never touched pork, to whom God said in a vision, 'If you will not eat the food that they place before you, why do you expect them to eat the food you place before them?' — and who then, as honoured guest at a banquet, was served a roast suckling pig with a sweet potato in its mouth and broke his diet on pork.

A man in the audience told Neville on Thursday that when he first heard him two years ago he had nothing, and now owns fifty pieces of property, thirty of them outright in his own name.

Another man wrote Neville a letter describing a family court matter the court said could not be heard until year's end; he denied the crowded calendar and his lawyer's words, assumed it resolved now, and word came that week that it would be heard in March.

Neville's dentist Jim told him at the chair yesterday that at a recent dental convention the talk turned to immortality, and when asked whether he knew anyone who actually knew, Jim said he was seeing such a man in his chair that day.

He retells a story he told in a recent lecture: a man, excited after a wonderful experience, posted an ordinary air mail letter in Los Angeles late on a Thursday evening to a friend back East, and it lay on the manager's desk at the receiving office the next morning before the day's mail had been delivered, so the manager telephoned to ask how it could be.

He reads out a letter received that week from a woman present in the audience, describing her vision of children in bare rooms waiting for a father who never returns, and then a farmhouse with an abundant harvest where the children begin creating for themselves.

His wife told him that on the previous Friday night three ladies balked at the three-dollar charge, one saying the lectures were all tripe.
