After a cruise, an unnamed woman refused to accept that her suitcase was lost and imagined unpacking it every night for almost five weeks, until she received a notice that it had been found and awaited collection.

A woman telephoned Neville long distance from New York City on the day of the lecture, first in distress about a nephew and again four hours later to say she had got him out of jail; she also told him about an astrologer's prediction of a wedding, which made him wonder how much of his teaching is actually heard.

During this talk Neville tells his audience that, earlier that same evening ('tonight'), a listener had asked him for help concerning someone they loved dearly who was going through a hard time. He uses the question as the occasion to teach that we reshape a struggling loved one in imagination -- as a potter reworks a spoiled vessel -- rather than giving up on them, since in his teaching all people are ultimately one and any inner change we hold toward another is what produces outer change in them.

A friend told Neville, on the Monday night before this lecture, of a dream she had shared with a companion in which they had bought him chocolate treats backstage because he looked pale and weak -- only to watch him transform into a towering, radiant being of light the moment he stepped onto the platform, a vision so bright it woke her. Neville affirmed the dream as true, adding wryly that he still owed her the twenty-eight cents the treats had cost.

A woman friend gave Neville a letter last Monday night describing her dream in which she and her friend Sharon bought him chocolate pudding, ice cream and a chocolate bar costing twenty-eight cents to give him strength for the platform, whereupon he became a giant of light on stage; Neville jokes that he owes her twenty-eight cents and must repay it like Socrates repaid his cock.

An unnamed friend of Neville's, absent from this particular meeting, had handed him a letter at the previous lecture describing a vivid vision: she found herself in a gambling casino where the owner approached her with a stick to tally her winnings, but instead of chips he counted off a long sliced French loaf held together, alongside the number seven and the figure 1,150. Neville reads the vision as rich, unintentional scriptural symbolism -- the loaf as the body of Christ and seven as the number of spiritual perfection -- and praises it as one of the finest examples of symbolic vision shared with him.

On the evening of this lecture someone asked Neville about someone they love dearly.

Among the letters given him last Monday, a gentleman described a vision of a concert in a place like the Bowl with a long-haired maestro, where a multi-coloured speaking bird resembling a parrot told him to get out and struck him in the face with its wings.
