A friend in the audience, Bill, told Neville the previous Tuesday how his nine-year-old daughter Lynn, three times in one day on a family trip to San Diego, went inwardly to God when her mother refused her (bringing her friend along, having their own motel room, dining alone) and each time the mother reversed herself believing she had thought of it.

An audience member -- a singer, identified in the processing notes as Danny -- gives a testimonial: wanting to appear on the Art Linkletter Show and needing someone to introduce him, he simply imagined himself already on the show, singing. That very day he received a surprise telephone call from a friend who confessed that, without telling him, she had written a letter and borrowed a photograph of him a month earlier -- and that he now had an audition scheduled for the Art Linkletter Show on the 16th of February.

Neville speaks of his mother, who bore twelve children, lost two at birth and raised ten, and who died riddled with cancer at sixty-one, angrily rejecting the claim that she died because she did not love.

A man in the audience told Neville on the Sunday night they both heard Freedom Barry how he imagined selling his house while still living in it, and then sold it for $65,000 cash with the right for himself and his mother to stay rent-free, all costs paid, until her death.

In April 1966, Neville's friend Jan traveled east to Pittsburgh to visit family and friends, among them a couple, Betty and her husband Matt, who had been raised around deaf relatives. During the visit Jan taught them the technique of mental revision -- returning to the start of a troubling scene and replaying it, as its playwright, to make it come out differently -- illustrating the method with several stories, including one about a girl named Lucy and one about her own grandchild.

A man in Neville's audience, prompted by hearing another listener's story of escalating success through the practice of revision, recalled his own experience from a few months earlier: as an investment broker himself, he had read a newspaper story about a dishonest broker and immediately 'revised' it in his mind, replacing it with the affirmation that he wanted absolute trust from everyone who sought his services. Having done this and bathed himself in the feeling of being trustworthy, he then let it go and forgot about it entirely.

Inside the letter read at this lecture, Neville's friend describes how Betty and her husband Matt had learned the technique of mental revision from their friend Jan; some time later Betty and the letter-writer sat together in a moment of silence and believed they heard that Matt was hearing perfectly, so they let the matter drop. More than a year and a half after that, Matt suddenly suffered a severe spasm of ear pain along with dizziness and loss of balance, and Betty resumed the practice nightly, repeating the reassuring words she had once heard in the Silence.
